I’m thinking the 4 people who voted for the second option are being less than honest. Unless it’s some foreigners where English is a second language.

everyone seems focused on the second half of the word, what world do you guys live in that:

My = Mew?

yoo sounds exactly like you... then add an M in front of it

Also, the first half of the word is the same in both examples, so focusing on that part would be odd.

This is a not a hill I’m willing to fight for, but totally disagree.

Yoo = Yo (as in Yo! MTV Raps!)

X

Yoo rhymes with cue, you, few, YOOHOO,...

Have a friend who spent his whole life in the States other than a few years in Eastern Europe in his 20s. His language skills are pretty good (managed to pick up a good deal of both Hungarian and Polish while he lived there, which are two totally different languages). But he's also one of those people whose accent is so egregiously bad and Americanized that when he speaks to people in their native language it sounds like he's insulting them.

Anyway, he's been back in the states for decades now but he still sometimes says "moo-ZAY-um", which drives me nuts

That hurt my brain. I said I didn’t wanna fight!!!! :lmao:

Normally, learning that people pronounce a word differently than me stirs up a rage deep inside myself like no other, but in this case, I think I want to start saying Moo-Zam.

Crazy. Some of these pronunciations people use are crazy.

Example: some people pronounce Jaguars as Jag-wires. Wtf?

Never heard a 2nd way to pronounce museum. Would never have occurred to me.

I need the backstory first. Why are you up in the wee hours of the morning asking this question?
So what was going on here @gianmarco?
Sorry for the late reply. I'm here in Italy right now so it wasn't the wee hours in the morning for me.

Anyway, couple days before leaving, I was talking to my youngest about going to see some museums while over here. And, she asked me why I was saying it the way I was.

For whatever reason, both pronunciations above sound the same to me. When you say the correct pronunciation fast enough (i.e. regular speed) , it just sounds like an "a" sound to me and I think I've always just said it that way. In fact, it was a hilarious back and forth because I asked her to say it, she'd say it the right way, and I was all "that's what I said!".

So I looked it up and found out I'm an idiot. But, it does seem there are others that say it like me, so I'm not the only one.

But, in almost 50 years of saying that word, she's the first one that's ever said anything about how I pronounce it.

Anyway, here we are.

Oh, I am. And the myoo-zams have been great.

Also, to clarify - I pronounce plenty of things wrong. I blame my Boston upbringing then moving to Minneapolis as a 30 year old for most of that. I also talk fast, so making museum a two syllable word gets ther point across and I can continue on with my rambling - saving myself those precious micro seconds

I've avoided reading this thread because I just... can't.

I assume the Yans will be getting a divorce over this as one of them is a maroon.
