How do you see the T.Y. Hilton/DHB Split working out? (1 Viewer)

2 for 27, what happened?
He sucks is what happened. He is a one trick pony....if he does not catch a bomb he is useless. In a PPR league, I would not touch him with a 10 feet pole.
I think the DB got a finger on it, but still, the bomb that he dropped that would've been a TD tonight, all on him. Luck didn't look his way a whole lot tonight, have to imagine he wasn't open enough, as the ball was spread around a lot.

He had a team-high eleven targets.

If you can't trust him in a game where the offense puts up ~40 pts against the Broncos and 3 TD through the air, when will you be able to trust him? 2 good games out of 7. At this rate, is anyone willing to put up with 5 more clunkers just to brag about the 2 games he does go off?

Yeah, there are quit a few of those people as a matter of fact. Hilton has been a disappointment thus far. What's encouraging for him however is the 11 targets he received last night and now Wayne is nursing a bum knee. Really, the stars could not align any better for him to break out. 1st Allen goes own for the year and now Wayne is hurt as well. For all the hype about how immensely talented this guy is, I just don't see it. He's a decent WR in a great situation right now. Long term I think S. Moss is about the best we can hope for though. More likely is he will continue to be a complimentary player who struggles to beat it the likes of DHB talents for a starting role.

Hilton should see plenty of targets now.
He already had plenty. The DB on Hilton was having a great night - barely tipped a long pass that would have been a TD. I'd like to think that Wayne being out helps Hilton, but I'm not so sure that will be the case.

Rotoworld:

One NFL executive anticipates the Colts thrusting T.Y. Hilton into a "frontline, prominent role" in the wake of Reggie Wayne's ACL tear.
The exec also believes Coby Fleener's role will be "heightened," while Darrius Heyward-Bey will operate as a "supplement." The theoretical usage falls in line with reports coming out of Indy the past two weeks. Hilton is the likeliest fantasy beneficiary in terms of snaps and receptions. Hilton's catch rate has been low to this point because he's been running low-percentage routes. He'll be a higher-percentage player if he's playing in the slot.

Let's sum this up:

Hilton catches most of the balls thrown his way.

DHB drops most of the balls thrown his way.

SHUT IT DOWN!!!

Hilton's got the talent, but more importantly he's got the QB to take advantage of those talents. I've always thought that the situation was favorable for T.Y. to be great (along with his big play ability). I figured it would take a decline in Wayne's performance or injury for T.Y. to take over.

I don't know why I should feel bad for a NFL player making millions, but I do feel bad for DHB. From all accounts he's really trying to do well. His hands just betray him too often. He seems like a good guy.

Anyway, T.Y. was in a new role today, and he did well. One bad drop and a million good to elite plays. I expect him to get better as the season goes on - learning how to be the #1 and become Luck's saftey net when the pressure's on. I see maybe a few more targets a game on the shorter routes when Luck needs to get rid of the ball in hurry.

I'm thinking Hilton will start getting the brunt of coverage now. Nobody really knew who would step up going into this HOU game. It also seemed to me that HOU simply didn't respect they Indy WRs and were aggressive with their defensive play calling. Maybe that's just how hot hey role? I don't know as I don't watch much of them. After last night though, Hilton should expect to be treated more like a WR1 by DCs.

Yeah, Jurb. Maybe it was just something in the air last night, but it seemed NO ONE wanted to cover WR1s. I just finished watching the game and both teams started focusing on AJ and TY later, but it didn't seem to matter. In fairness to TY, he still played well even later when the safeties were rolling towards him. He seemed able to get loose. One thing he's got is quickness, which seems to really help him fool DBs on his cuts. And then he's like a hornet zipping by after the cut.

When I saw that drop by him in the first quarter I WAY overreacted and said "You're blowing it, T.Y.". He seems to have elite hands 95% of the time and then just randomly misses one. I got to see the NE game this weekend, too, and if Dobson, the WR for the Pats can fix his hands (as horrid as they were), then T.Y. can fix his occasional mishaps.

Leads me to believe it's just lack of concentration sometimes? He'll have to fix that if he wants to be the "guy" for Luck from now till infinity.

I agree with this.

Hilton is the clear #1 and showed that he can get it done. The 58 yd TD was a good route by Hiton but it was poor coverage help by the safety. I expect opponents to try and take Hilton out the game, since opponents aren't going to worry about DHB, Brazill and Fleener, and of course, the IND RBs.

But even with increased coverage, I can't see Hilton getting less than 7-8 targets a game and will still be a very good option.

Is this when DHB, the guy that ' beat out' Hilton, cashes in?

You must have missed, DHB is now hurt too.

I think DC's will get that he's the WR1 now. He's the one guy who can win it by himself - as seen by his 3 TD's on 4 targets last night.

he slipped on that drop and it was behind him a little bit. still should of had it, cant complain about his performance at all

You guys are talking about one dropped ball after a 6-112-3TD night?

Hee Haw
Although your deep analysis gives us new perspective here...

If you've been following the thread many posters have been discussing his hands (with good reason) and why those "drops" might or might not be an issue in the future.

Yes, we know T.Y. is "filthy" and we know you are not happy with "ya'lls breakdown". We still enjoy talking about it.

Even if he gets the coverage, he'll get the targets and has the speed to still put up high-end WR2/low-en WR1 numbers game in and game out.

Hilton is smart and he is talented. Luck is smart and is supremely talented.

There really is no way this doesn't just grow and grown to be super productive for Hilton. You could easily see how the absence of Wayne is affecting the team but Hilton will get to that point.

To me, he is like a young Reggie Wayne when Wayne had more speed but he has that Marvin Harrison fast-twitch. This could be dangerous once he and Luck get comfortable with Hilton adjusting to the new duties.

Is HIlton a WR1 the rest of the way?

After losing Blackmon and Wayne I need a guy that can put up Green, Cruz, Marshall-like numbers, without having to give up what it'd take to get one of those bigger named guys.

This isn't going to help you much, but no one knows yet.

The only thing we really know for sure is his floor gets a HUGE bump. Last week could be his high point score of the season (in many formats). He could be up and down this year, or he could be super stud from here on out. It's hard to guess.

But if you think you've got a shot at your title in your league, Hilton is the type of guy you should take a chance on. He could win it for you. I would think, though, that any Hilton owner is going to want a whole lot for him, and will try to gouge you.

Ty hilton going to win myself and others a bunch of money this year. Cheers to those who took the risk

True, but Hilton's 3 biggest games this season have come against Miami, Seattle, and Houston, who are 28th, 29th, and 31st in points allowed to WRs.

With Wayne out, I put Hilton in the Pierre Garcon class; a guy that should get you at least 10 every week in ppr and has a legit chance to blow up big on any given Sunday. If you are a contender that can somewhow roll Hilton out there as your WR3 or flex, I think you have a huge advantage right now.

Agreed. However, he's kind of a guy you HAVE to play every week. As noted before, his best games have come against some of the toughest matchups for WRs. You can't really try to play the matchups with him. Now that Wayne is gone, as you noted, hopefully you can rely on him to be more consistent with a floor of 7-10 points (non-PPR), but get the big games when he gets more yards or finds the endzone.

Great point, but this is what Hilton had to say:

“Going forward, I know I may face some double or triple teams, probably in the weeks coming up,” Hilton said. “But I got a lot of faith and a lot of trust in those guys to make the plays. I feel like we’ll continue to step up and continue to play as a group and we should be good.”

I'm kinda surprised it took 15 pages to figure out TY is better than DHB. DHB -- great athlete, average WR. TY obviously has the potential to be much more. You would have a strong argument that TYs rookie year was better statistically than any of DHBs 4 prior years.

My concern with HIlton has been raised by a few people -- low percentage routes. At 5'9" and under 180 lbs I just don't see him running many over the middle, under 10-12 yards. Desean Jackson'esque will probably lead to some 3-40 type of lines, but hopefully they'll find some creative ways to get him the ball in space.
