Hilton's got the talent, but more importantly he's got the QB to take advantage of those talents. I've always thought that the situation was favorable for T.Y. to be great (along with his big play ability). I figured it would take a decline in Wayne's performance or injury for T.Y. to take over.
I don't know why I should feel bad for a NFL player making millions, but I do feel bad for DHB. From all accounts he's really trying to do well. His hands just betray him too often. He seems like a good guy.
Anyway, T.Y. was in a new role today, and he did well. One bad drop and a million good to elite plays. I expect him to get better as the season goes on - learning how to be the #1 and become Luck's saftey net when the pressure's on. I see maybe a few more targets a game on the shorter routes when Luck needs to get rid of the ball in hurry.
I'm thinking Hilton will start getting the brunt of coverage now. Nobody really knew who would step up going into this HOU game. It also seemed to me that HOU simply didn't respect they Indy WRs and were aggressive with their defensive play calling. Maybe that's just how hot hey role? I don't know as I don't watch much of them. After last night though, Hilton should expect to be treated more like a WR1 by DCs.
Yeah, Jurb. Maybe it was just something in the air last night, but it seemed NO ONE wanted to cover WR1s. I just finished watching the game and both teams started focusing on AJ and TY later, but it didn't seem to matter. In fairness to TY, he still played well even later when the safeties were rolling towards him. He seemed able to get loose. One thing he's got is quickness, which seems to really help him fool DBs on his cuts. And then he's like a hornet zipping by after the cut.
When I saw that drop by him in the first quarter I WAY overreacted and said "You're blowing it, T.Y.". He seems to have elite hands 95% of the time and then just randomly misses one. I got to see the NE game this weekend, too, and if Dobson, the WR for the Pats can fix his hands (as horrid as they were), then T.Y. can fix his occasional mishaps.
Leads me to believe it's just lack of concentration sometimes? He'll have to fix that if he wants to be the "guy" for Luck from now till infinity.
