How do you see the T.Y. Hilton/DHB Split working out? (1 Viewer)

Don't sleep on Da'Rick. Unlike everyone else not named Hilton on the Colts WR corps, Rogers has size and talent catching the football. There is a vacuum here at WR2 for Mr. Luck, especially considering Allen's out and Fleener is a bum.
I don't know about Fleener being a bum. That's a little harsh. Allen would have excelled had he stayed healthy and Fleener would have gone down to injury. But that being said, Fleener is very average. Not a bum, but middle roadish. TY's role has grown immensely from the days of Reggie Wayne lining up opposite him. But the offense will grind to a halt if they continue to try to win with one reciever and no ground game. I think Fleener's role will expand, if only because Luck will be forced to throw his way even if he's covered. The Rams exposed the Colts weakness. The blueprint is out on how to shut down Indy.

I'm in a somewhat shallow league and I need WR help but I just cut DHB yesterday after watching him play again. He has/had opportunity, he's got the body and the wheels but simply he's a receiver who can't receive. I've drank his kool-aid since Oakland but I don't know how you fix such fundamentally bad hands once a guy gets a few years into the NFL. Damn shame too but I will not go down in the fantasy playoffs watching balls bounce off his numbers
As Sterling Sharpe would say....without your hands your feet are out of a job. Drops His Balls should not be in the NFL.

The TY Hilton party train got a wet blanket thrown on it last night. 5/44 on 9 targets is not bad. Still wouldn't call it a dud, but far below expectations.

I noticed that the lack of WR threat opposite of him is putting the bracket coverage on Hilton and forcing him to be a Nate Burleson lite. Brazil, DHB are MIAs. Fleener's usage is trending up, and it's shortening the fleld for Luck instead of creating space for Hilton's deep routes. All the DHB haters slash Hilton owners better be rooting for him or Brazil. Hilton needs some WR to step up, open the lanes and/or draw coverage.

no WR goes for 7/100+ every week.

TY had two monster games. every WR has a 4/44 mixed in.

Fleener getting action in the middle will help his cause

There is some truth to this. It's not going to come from DHB. He was awful last night.

Like Bike said, Fleener's play helps. Donald Brown's play helps too.

As a Hilton owner, I was not disappointed with last night's outcome (ppr), although a better pass or two from Luck and we may have a line more like 6/80 than 5/44.

I'll say this though. I am concerned about Hilton's prospects when Indy is winning the game. Seems he's marginalized a bit when Indy is up.

it seems like they are trailing big every single game

What really hurt Hilton last night is that the Colts finally figured out who the best RB they have is and the Titans couldn't stop him.

The moron OC wants to run the ball no matter what, instead of using his best weapon which is his QB.

The Oline isnt very good.

As a TY owner, I like the fact that they fall behind alot,

Tennessee has allowed the least amount of fantasy points to WRs this season, and it was a Thursday night game where passing numbers tend to be lower anyway. Just some things to keep in mind.

In standard leagues, Tenn had allowed 13 ppg to opposing WR.

In standard leagues, deducting the game against Indy, Seattle has allowed 12.4 ppg to opposing WR.

In standard leagues, deducting the game against Indy, Houston has allowed 14.0 ppg to opposing WR.

Against Seattle, Hilton put up 30.1 FF points. Against Seattle, Hilton put up 26 FF points.

He is the type of WR who you can't play matchups with. You have to start him every week, or you will miss his big games.

I'm not saying people should bench him, just pointing out that there's reason to believe the 5/44 line isn't a big cause for concern for the future.

Oh, I see. Sorry, then. It seems we are saying the same thing.

Hilton didn't get bracket coverage. Tenn played man with Safety over top almost the entire game. The "bracket" simply went to the deep receiver. Indy used Hilton on several crossing patterns to bypass that and hence he did most of his work on underneath crossing passes. Hilton and everyone else struggled heavily to get open and lacked separation all game long. Running away from man by crossing the field is the easiest way to beat it. To make matters worse, Indy oline was again horrible. It seems to me Hilton and all the Indy WRs struggle vs man coverage. Add to that a weak oline that doesn't allow for longer developing plays and you are going to have games like last night. Hilton had one play where he ran a double move hitch and go, the line actually held up and he was totally blanketed by the CB.

Maybe I'm wrong, but seems Hilton's drop issues are behind him. He might have missed one last night but looked like a tough play to make. In fact, I thought he caught it but they walked it back.

I'd say this thread is pretty spot-on. The O-Line lets Luck get hit a lot, and it's going to be tough to buy enough time for Hilton to get deep. And the comment about the other receivers is well put. It sure did throw a wet blanket. I have no WRs, so I had to give up a top RB for him (Bush -- I also have Lynch, Lacy, and Ivory) and I hope this isn't how the rest of the year goes.

No need to risk the low percentage shots that are Hilton's bread and butter.

Rotoworld:

Following Sunday's win over the Texans, the Colts confirmed that involving T.Y. Hilton was a priority.

Hilton had six catches in the game's first 17 minutes and finished with a career-high eight grabs. "That was the game plan, get me going early," he said. "Let's get a rhythm going between me and Andrew." Hilton would have had a much bigger day if the Colts hadn't taken a 20-3 lead at halftime. "I don't think you ever want to force balls to somebody, but, yeah, to get T.Y. involved ... everybody knows what kind of playmaker he is," Luck said. The matchup outside at Kansas City in Week 16 is far tougher, but at least the Colts are identifying their best players.

He and Luck are only limited by the creativity if Pep. Hamilton.
You being a Colts fan, please expand. What do you think Pep's limitations are? If any? I'm asking seriously, because I didn't get to see a lot of their game the second half of the season.

It's not just Pep as Pagano wanted to run a power rushing attack and brought Pep in to orchestrate it. I don't think Pep was willing to change his game plan all season. The Colts base offense is too vanilla and predictable. I can call 90% of the plays from my couch so a DC would have a field day.

The Colts like to run from the bunch set but don't have the OL to dominate the LOS. This often leads to 2nd and 8 or more. It just puts the offense in a hole.

When the Colts shifted to more 3 or 4 WR sets and ran from there the RBs had much more success and it allowed for Da'Rick Rogers to get on the field. He opens up the field for TY the way they wanted DHB to plus he can catch the damn ball.

I expect the Colts to add OL to continue to move towards the power running attack therefore limiting Luck and Hilton's upside. This offseason will be very telling.

He's not going anywhere. This win cements him in place and he's not HC quality at this point so someone like Jax won't attempt to take him even if they Luck into the SB.

Rotoworld:

Darrius Heyward-Bey is out "a week or so" with a hamstring injury.

DHB was benched during the regular season and has regressed into a blocking receiver and special teamer. This explains the Colts' signing of street free agent Deion Branch and promotion of Josh Lenz from the practice squad.

Pep and Luck are only limited by the lack of a real WR1 in Indy.
You have a point. 224 yards, 2 TDs (one for 64 yards) and 13 receptions just won't get it done. They need someone who can at least get them 300 yards and 5 TDs in a big game.

See how silly that sounds? About as silly as saying Hilton couldn't be a #1 if he continues to improve. Does this last season cement him as the #1? Of course not. But it also doesn't ring true to say they don't have a #1 in the making in Indy, either.

What's silly is ignoring that he basically disappeared for 6 weeks playing the role of the WR1. So he beat up on an injury depleted KC defense. That's nice for a game. The stars couldn't have aligned any better this year for him to break out as a true WR and he didn't. He's a nice player who's capable of big time plays and games but not consistently able to beat WR1 coverage. If Indy can get a WAr1 the offense, Hilton included, will be much more potent.

Hilton doesn't have the game to be a #1 with no help. During those weeks, he was it and teams just stopped him. He's not good enough to overcome that type of coverage. Gotta figure that this week we see what he is made of. Belicheck will make him the #1 priority.

I don't think we're breaking new ground here by saying "If Indy gets a definitive WR1 they will be more potent".

Besides, that wasn't my point. You were responding by saying that Pep was only held back by his WRs. I disagree. I had my own thoughts on Pep, but asked Pizza what his were, since he's an Indy homer. He echoed what I had in mind about Pep.

When Pep lets Luck throw the ball a lot - Hilton seems to put up WR1 numbers a lot. Maybe Rogers becomes the WR1. I don't know. But my point is just that - we don't know yet. I can't stand when people say things as a "fact" when they are in no way cemented, yet. We've seen stranger things happen than Hilton or Rogers becoming a #1.

I don't care who you are - if you put up 200+ yards and 2TDs with 13 Receptions in the playoffs, in your second friggin year of playing in the NFL - you have potential - possibly WR1 potential. It's not like he hasn't had big games before.

Again, to say it's impossible is silly. I personally don't think Hilton is a solid #1, but I sure as hell wouldn't rule him out as becoming one.

I'd say this is a fair outlook. Lets see what Hilton can do against NE. I think he has a rougher time of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he proves me wrong.

~80 receptions for 1,100 yards. That's with Reggie Wayne playing a chunk of the season. He's been even better post-Wayne.

Yeah, what a horrible, horrible WR1.

Not even including the 13 for 224 yards for 2 TD (1 game) so far in the playoffs.

Just admit it, Jurb, you didn't even bother to look at his stats or watch any Indy games this year.

Gotta love where this is going for Hilton in ppr. If this recent usage spills over (if the Colts have kind of figured out what they have here), Hilton may not be what we think of a stud fantasy WR1 (we think of Calvin and Dez and Julio, etc), but he can be every bit of Victor Cruz-ish or Steve Smith in Carolina when he was utilized heavily, especially when Allen and Wayne return next year (and who knows, maybe their run game will be effective).

With Wayne (7games): 4 catches, 59 yards, .3 TD per game and a catch rate of 49% with 2 big games and 5 duds

Without Wayne (10 games): 7 catches, 89.5 yards, .5 TD per game with a catch rate of 67% with 4 big games and 6 duds (5 if you play PPR).

I wouldn't call him a true #1 WR (too inconsistent) but it is very clear that he was much better without Wayne than with Wayne.

Out of necessity and volume, yes but the bigger picture is, without Wayne, Luck and Hilton now have a lot of "in-game" work to build on as they have been using Hilton in so many ways (afforded to them by the absence of Wayne). Now, that work becomes a luxury if they keep it going because now teams will have to focus on Wayne again and Allen is a really good player too.

It won't look the same (12+ targets, etc) but it may result the same (7 catches but one is for a 40+ yard TD). There is something to be said about the experience they are getting right now without Wayne.

TY did what he did with a rookie WR on the field in Rogers and a second-year guy in Brazill. Yeah, and some of the time, DHB was trotted out there but he embarrassed himself enough that you could put a linebacker on him in coverage.

TY made the most of a pretty good, maybe not ideal, opportunity. As I've said, he's got a shot at being a star, maybe elite.

There will be enough offense on this team to support two #1s, fantasy-wise, a la Harrison and Wayne...as long as Indy doesn't fix its defense.

You guys are crazy. Anyone is a candidate to break out w a QB like Luck. Wait when he is in yr 5. it's really that simple.

I agree with this (except the "crazy" part - there's been good debate in this thread). In my Keeper League, this is why I'm watching the Indy situation like a hawk. Some young WR is going to step up and become a monster in Fanstay. Luck is a stud, and will create a stud at WR. That WR may be on the team now (Hilton, Rogers, etc). I grabbed them both. The stud may come later, via the draft this year. Whatever happens, you have a young stud QB who will be around for a LONG time (barring injury), and he's going to take a young WR (or two) with him on this decade long ride (again, barring injury).

I want to have that WR, whoever it becomes, on my team.

Whatever happens, you have a young stud QB who will be around for a LONG time (barring injury), and he's going to take a young WR (or two) with him on this decade long ride (again, barring injury).

I want to have that WR, whoever it becomes, on my team.
^^^^ Basically what was in my brain.

He and Luck are only limited by the creativity if Pep. Hamilton.
Pep and Luck are only limited by the lack of a real WR1 in Indy.
You have a point. 224 yards, 2 TDs (one for 64 yards) and 13 receptions just won't get it done. They need someone who can at least get them 300 yards and 5 TDs in a big game.See how silly that sounds?

He was WR41 from weeks 11-16.
yeah he hit a lul in that part of the season, I think he had an injured shoulder, sure seemed to turn it around after that.

Killed me in 1 league I was chasing the points title in
