Hurricane Sandy (1 Viewer)

Wunderground tweeted that four feet of water entering subway tunnels under the East River.
https://twitter.com/MTAInsiderMTA just tweeted it too...Thats as official as it gets.
"Rumors are wrong. The MTA cannot assess damage until Tuesday. It is way too early for a subway reopening timetable."
The rumors that the subway is closed down for a week were probably just conjecture. But the MTA themselves posted that the subway tunnels are flooding.

Really? A commercial about Haiti when we have our own crisis to handle. Heck, this is going to cost us billions but why not just give them some more money.

Power- OUT.

Innerwebz- sporadic at best ... posting from iPhone (Sprint).

Most intense sustained winds I'ever experienced ... been in the City for all my 43 years. Nothing like this ever.

Random WTF moment (in a good way)? EMS vehicle was idling outside awhile ago ... ". 30 Seconds Over Tokyo" by Pere Ubu was eminating from said vehicle. Righteous!

so we shouldn't help Haitians?
Where did I say that? But we worry about our national debt and this storm is going to cost us billions alone, we should have priorities and right now, Haiti ain't one of them.

Just miraculous I still have power. It flickered a lot during the last few hours but never went out.

I ran out of Makers Mark.

Dog still has not taken a dump.

GL to GBs in Maryland, NYC and everywhere else.

Not sure why, but Irene winds were worse in Hell's Kitchen.I know definitively that's not true downtown and the surge is not comparable, but (thankfully) this one has been no big whup. So far.

Might be a good time too go for a quick 12 mile run. Might set some personal records with some help from the wind.

So if a tree on my yard falls on a neighbors car, my homeowners would be the one to file claim against?

1tree down, took out a section of fence, 2other sections down too and a few big branches down. Middle of Long Island

No power either

They don't decide what commercials they're going to run five minutes before they air.

I've seen this in two places hope it's not fake. Can't verify yet.

BREAKING: MTA announces NYC subways will be closed for remainder of the week. All major lines are flooded

fyi...friend in nyc said she just saw the MTA spokesperson on Fox 5 and he confirmed subways shutdown for rest of week.

Tons of rain here in Baltimore, but otherwise much less impact than from the derecho. Amazingly power is still on - I told my wife when I bought that generator this week it would mean the power stayed on.

Still thinking the big winds are on their way though - reported sustained wind in the 80's and gusts into the 90's at the Bay Bridge

according to twitter from Weather Channel guy:

Eric Fisher ‏@EricFisherTWC

Via NWS Chat: the NYSE trading floor is under 3' of water. This is absolutely incredible

Irene's winds were way worse here too IMO. Half my trees were losing branches, you could barely stand outside and it was a steady gale force wind for five or six hours. It was nasty between 5-9 here but it has died down some and even at its peak it wasn't sustained like Irene. Thing is this storm is longer in duration and is bringing much more storm surge and although I only live a mile from the Chesapeake, I'm on high ground. After Irene passed by it was sunny the next morning, it is supposed to rain all day here tomorrow with 30 mph winds. This ho won't leave.

For us central MD folks, I (knock on wood) still have power too. I wonder if the storms that knocked out power for a week during the summer took care of most of the trees that were ready to go? Amazed we still have power, although the winds do seem to be picking up, the rain seems less intense. Looking at the satellite maps, Baltimore seems to be in the green and out of the yellow/orange. Stay safe fellow FBGs!

Please post facebook photos on something else, no facebook means i cant see them

Looks like Baltimore and Howard counties had about 50k without power earlier but my county (AA) had less than 500. I think they are burying cable out where I live, I know all my neighborhood is buried but the connections weren't until just recently. Would be nice to get through this with power, seems like NYC is taking the beating we did during Irene.

250K in Manhattan out of power - river to river, below 35th Street

NYU Hospital backup power failed, trying to get patients transferred

5 confirmed storm related deaths in the five boroughs

Letterman commercial just came on and showed a clip of tonight's top 10 list.... Rejected hurricane names, and the one Dave said during the commercial was "Oprah Windy".
