Fairly certain you just thought your own thought. Witten's a slid play the rest of the way. He's also not a quitter. I say he is on board with helping Garrett TRY to point this boat in the right direction. TRY mind you. Don't expect miracles.Witten's top-5.Thoughts on Witten going forward. Dallas stinks. Cowboys going to be behind a lot and Witten should be a security blanket for Kitna.
What he said for this week.Witten's on pace for 1012 yards. I don't expect any sort of revival by the offense under Garrett. It'd sure be nice if they got the running game going, but otherwise no. Some in Dallas have praised Garrett for a while before their recent struggles. We'll see. He's got his shot, but I don't expect it.In some ways, losing teams often see what they've got and get ready for the next season. I expect Dez (who is getting a good amount of time) to be used tons in the second half of the season. There's some obvious ones like him.I would guess Martellus Bennett gets some extra work too.I'd be nervous projecting too much more than what Witten already did in the first half. 1012 for a TE is nothing to shake a stick at either.Witten has been a stud against the Giants for years now...check Drinen's game log dominator! he should have a monster game yet again, much like the first game earlier this year.
Yeah but there's a trap there. If the FB and the TE are kept in and the RB has to bump someone on his way offenses tend to get bad real quick. Sean Payton was the Cowboys OC and Maurice Carthon was there (former FB, good RB coach) as an assistant. Garrett knows things, he's just gotta be honest in his own evaluation. It comes down to allowing the defenders to know a pass is coming and pin their ears back. Even the worst NFL D could have success if they knew what was coming. Nothing beats an effective running game and some quick passes for shutting that down. In this instance, those DEs will run right out of position and the Boys should have some success.Barber has done well against the Gmen. I've said it all season. I said it a few weeks back when they played them. Just give him the rock often. Just do it. You can't NOT run because the D is good (not unless you're a Martz team). You pound it to keep the defense honest. To build an attitude in those linemen. Let them go after someone instead of stepping back every play. Sure it could be Choice instead, but I'm a Barber fan for this expected tough task. The Giants DEs got them to the Supe a few years back and it's downright foolish to not give them respect and expect to win. Osi will destroy the Boys all by himself if they don't.ETA-ya know what, this is NFC East football and has been for as long as I can remember. The Eagles have sent everyone in on blitzes so often for so many years under Reid and Johnson and before that it was Reggie and that other guy that sadly died too young. Old Joe Gibbs' teams pounded it against great Giants defenses and the Giants had to do it right back against their very good defense. The Boys themselves ran Emmitt into the ground most weeks themselves.TE wise, there's been Bavaro. There's Shockey. Cooley. Witten and Novacek. Eagles have had a slew of TEs do well. The only fool used to be the Cards trying to be cute after Stump Mitchell and OJ and consequently they were bad for many years. NFC East football is tough slugfests and ya gotta bring it. Garrett should know that by now.I don't think it's a given that Witten will be getting lots of opportunities to catch the ball. Notwithstanding Witten's prior performance against the Giants, the Cowboys need more pass protection. Kitna is not a mobile guy and is a huge contrast in the pocket to the slippery Romo. Garrett has not proven particularly adaptable in his schemes or play-calling - a source of a lot of criticism even before this year - however a team like the Giants could well eat Kitna alive if they don't add some protection.
You're using a lot of generalized language about what Garrett "should" know or do. You're ignoring the fact that Garrett has not demonstrated the best wisdom in running his offense to date, a problem which dates back 2-3 years. Establish a running game? Great! Cowboys fans have been clamoring for that to happen for years. Sometimes it even does happen. Mostly, however, Garrett forgets for long periods of time about the running plays on his card and starts going into all-pass mode. I agree that this comes down to judgment on any given play and in any given matchup as to whether to keep Witten in to pass protect or to send him out into a route. I'm not suggesting that Witten won't ever be used as a receiver - he's too good not to be. I, however, also reject the blithe statement made by someone earlier in this thread that Witten is sure to be Kitna's "security blanket" as a receiver. I think Kitna will often need a "security blanket" a little closer to him than 15 yards away.Yeah but there's a trap there. I didn't feel like the Boys played a normal series (maybe one or two). For the most part it was big play TD or a quickly snuffed drive, the former seemed way more often.I was unable to watch the game yesterday. Was Witten being used as a blocker, or was Kitna simply not looking his way?I just traded for this guy, so I guess I should have expected him to be terrible.
Dallas was throwing deep a LOT yesterday. More than I've seen them do in years. Yes, Witten did stay in to block some. But not more than usual at first glance.I didn't feel like the Boys played a normal series (maybe one or two). Well with almost every TE banged up or on IR this year, wouldn't he be #1 by default?FBGs has Witten ranked as the #1 TE in my ppr league in the top 250 forward. Really? Does this surprise anyone else? The guy was invisible last week. Should we expect him to go back to getting a lot of targets going forward?
