Not disputing it, but Fanball seems to be often wrong. Any other confirmation?

roughns' starting status cloudy Thursday, November 30, 2006Running back Reuben Droughns' status as the Browns' starting running back of the future is in jeopardy. Droughns, who was benched last week in favor of Jason Wright, said he's upset and doesn't know why he has been benched. "Sometimes it is upsetting, but you've got to understand the position that they're trying to address as well," he said. Asked if there's anything going on behind the scenes, Droughns said, "Not as far as I know. I don't know what's going on." Droughns, who's been nursing a sprained foot, carried the ball twice for 4 yards against the Bengals on Sunday. He played primarily on special teams. "I'm kind of in the dark right now," he said. "But at the same time, they've got some younger guys that they have trust in and it's just one of those situations that you've got to understand the moves that they're trying to make." Droughns, who rushed for 1,232 yards last season, signed a three-year, $12 million extension in the off-season, but most of that isn't guaranteed. He received a $2.5 million signing bonus, a $1.25 million roster bonus in 2006 and a $1.2 million salary. Essentially, he's making about $5 million to play this season. He's due a $1.75 million roster bonus and $1.25 million salary in 2007, plus incentives based on yards. Still listed as questionable with the foot, Droughns has been working with the second team again this week and missed portions of practice Wednesday. Coach Romeo Crennel said earlier this week that Wright started in part because of Droughns' foot and in part because of the way he hit the holes against Pittsburgh.Edit:More of the articleRyan Tucker is out for the season with what's believed to be an emotional illness, but he told Crennel he wants to return. "Once he gets himself right, he'll have the opportunity to," said Crennel. Crennel said Tucker will issue a statement in a day or two regarding his situation. "We want what's best for [Ryan] and his family," said Crennel. "We'll support him and his recovery." Kelly Butler will replace Tucker at right tackle. "My prayers go out to him," said Butler. "He's a great guy and I looked to him for guidance, on and off the field. I didn't want my opportunity to come like this, but now I have to make the best of it." McGinest calls for effort: Willie McGinest echoed Braylon Edwards' sentiments that some players need to step it up. "Guys on this team need to put forth a little better effort," said McGinest, who has three Super Bowl rings with New England. "We need to prepare harder and play harder. "I've said it before to different guys around here and I'll keep saying it until more guys start doing it. There are a lot of guys that work hard, but I think we all need to put more into it if we really care about what's going on." McGinest said he thought about calling a players-only team meeting, as Edwards suggested on Monday, "But everything's been addressed. Some of the problems, we handle in-house. It doesn't need to be a public spectacle. Maybe [a team meeting] needs to happen, but what we really need is to start playing good football." Other players supported a team-meeting. "When you have three wins, guys have a lot of ideas," said quarterback Charlie Frye. "And if Braylon thinks that, then maybe it will help." Said tight end Kellen Winslow Jr.: "That's cool. You want to get some stuff cleared up, talk amongst yourselves and clear the air, that's good." Winslow agreed with all of the other players that Crennel is not the problem. "We love Romeo as a coach and as a person," said Winslow. "We can help him and help each other by starting to win some games so we don't have to go through this." Injuries: Orpheus Roye is doubtful with a knee injury. . . . Leigh Bodden (ankle) and Winslow (knee) were idle.
