You could be better off today, but you elected Obama.
Do you think there would be a debt ceiling issue if McCain were president? Or would it have been passed with no issues like it was 7 times under Bush?
Debt ceiling is not a real issue either way. Just something made up for the tea party to complain about.
There wouldn't be a Tea Party if McCain had been elected. No Michelle Bachmann, no 2010 Republican tsunami.

As Ivan K. and other reasonable conservatives have asserted, if McCain were elected what would be significantly different outside of HCR?

We'd have come nowhere close to even reaching the debt ceiling under McCain... he wouldn't have blown through as many trillions as Obama has. O spends like a drunken sailor, tossing 3, 4, 5 trillion dollars down a hole like it's nothing.

Can you name the last president who didn't have the debt ceiling raised during his term?

I disagree with this slightly. There was a Tea Party waiting to break out towards the end of Bush's term as fiscal conservatives were pissed about Bush's spending. The election of Obama, stimulus, health care, and perceived attack on small business got the grass roots movement up and going. But the way Bush was spending put the pieces in place.

I am sorry but the stress that is on the President of the United States is unmatched by any position in the US. Yes, Mr. McCain is still alive and doing great, but the stress level of a Congressman and the Presidnet are not even close. President Obama is showing age after only 2 years and lets face it not a lot would be different due to the economy situation.

When was the last time there was a President who was not vilified by at least a third of the American people? Must be a lot of fun.

OBL would still be alive.

Sure, but that would be about as likely as McCain spending more $$$ and growing the deficit more than Obama has.

The debt ceiling mess and downgrade could have all been avoided.

Please correct your mistake and vote against Obama in 2012

It's the least you could do.

Debt ceiling mess would have been avoided because the GOP (more accurately, the tea baggers) are the ones that turned it into a "crisis" in an attempt to hurt Obama. As for the downgrade, I am not so sure.

Just an FYI for those that were afraid McCain would croak and leave the Presidency in the (capable) hands of Sarah Palin, he's still alive. If you voted for Obama for this reason, shame on you. You put some kind of imaginary "dead pool" ahead of the welfare of this country.Would McCain have had his warts as a President? Sure. But nothing like this.
hippling...tool or troll??? the minute mccain embraced the religious right AND picked the vacuous, bovine palin for vp, he sealed his his failure... he chose poorly - twice...

McCain : This is Obama's downgrade

He was working the Sunday shows, looking as chipper as ever.

Sen. John McCain defended the Tea Party against Sen. John Kerry’s “tea party downgrade” remark on Meet the Press this morning.

“We could have reached an agreement a lot earlier, but the members of the House of Representatives had a mandate last November, and it was jobs and the economy and it was spending. And for them to then agree to tax increases and spending increases was obviously a repudiation of the mandate they felt they had from last November,” McCain said.

He said that much of the “dysfunction” in the current political system could be attributed to “the failure of the president of the United States to lead.”

“The fact is that the President never came forward with a plan,” McCain pointed out. “There was never a specific plan. There was always the so-called ‘leading from behind.’”

McCain defended the S & P downgrade, saying it would be a mistake to “shoot the messenger.” He said he hoped the downgrade would lead to the congressional super committee looking seriously at entitlement reform.

so that is why we had so many anti-abortion measures and cut measures (npr. planned parenthood and no subsidy/loophole bills) and no jobs bills??? mccain is still sucking up...

 McCain playing politics...big deal.

You answered your own post. If there was no Tea Party, No Michelle Bachmann we would of avoided this down grade. Which goes to show your true colors that it really is not about spending as the Republicans say and it is more about President Obama.

Really, it's about one side disliking the other side (Remember Obama being against raising the debt ceiling when Bush was prez?) Hypocrisy runs deep on both sides of the aisle.

Hey I agree and I am not the one saying that McCain would of been a better president just because he is alive. I am just showing how Stratorma has blinders on this issue because of his feelings towards Obama. I agree it goes both ways.. but please can the republicans stop saying that this whole issue is on Obama. When it is and has been a complete failure on both sides to cut spending.

Dear Friend,

One of the great rewards of being in public service is the extensive group of wonderful friends John and I have made throughout Arizona and across the nation.

You and other loyal supporters have been such an important part of John's career and success that we truly consider you to be part of our extended family. Today, as the children and I prepare for John's 75th birthday on August 29th I hope you will join us in celebrating this milestone as we put together a Special Album of Birthday Wishes from friends like you who share John's values and goals.

This is a great way for all of us to say "thanks" to John for all he does to shape a better future for America - and it's a wonderful show of support for a truly exceptional leader. So please, join this exciting project by following this link to sign the online birthday card to John before Monday.

In addition, I hope you will also consider making a generous contribution of $25 or even $75 to help us raise $75,000 for Country First. I can't think of a birthday surprise that would thrill him more than to know that you will continue to stand by his side to help our Party's candidates up-and-down the ballot win important victories in what is sure to be a contentious and costly campaign cycle.

As you well know, John is tirelessly fighting on our behalf to serve his country. I am so proud of John for fighting against those who wish to jeopardize America's future security. And I know how much John relishes being in the forefront of the current fight to confront and resolve our nation's out-of-control spending.

Like John, I know you are ready to do whatever is necessary to help get our country back on the right track and make sure that the GOP can protect its Republican House Majority, win the seats necessary to gain a Republican Majority in the U.S. Senate, and elect a Republican president who can once again lead our nation to greatness.

So please take a moment to sign the online birthday card by following this link. Thank you for joining in this special project.

Cindy

P.S. Remember, John's birthday is August 29th. Please sign the birthday card by following this link today so that we can receive it in time for his birthday celebration. If possible, please also make a generous birthday contribution of to Country First. It will mean a great deal to John to know that you are willing to help Country First meet its goal to protect the Republican Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, win a Republican Senate Majority and put a new Republican president in the White House next year. Thank you.

I wonder how many people have this thread in their notebook so that, when the inevitable occurs, they can be the first to bump it by posting "update?"

Tacky. But then again, that's the nature of political fundraising.

Racist?! From a Republican no less, not even an over sensitive liberal. That's bizarre and about as unracist as can be.
