Jon Gruden fired in TB (1 Viewer)

I was -Michael Clayton - guy could have been ROY if it were not for Big Ben-Caddy - ROY-Jeremy Stevens - rapist
One good season a career makes? I would label Clayton and Caddy busts.
Sorry, but injuries don't make players busts. Caddy is just one unlucky guy.
Nobody knew these guys would fall off the map after 1 season. Can you blame the people that scouted them for that? Maybe you can argue Caddy had a history of injuries, but I am sure team doctors OK'd him.
Durability is something you do try to scout and project. Further, I never heard anyone say that someone was not a bust because they got injured- that is a new one to me. But let's say for the sake of argument that we will roll that way... explain Clayton to me.
I agree, durability is something you can try and scout for, but Caddy was a consensus early 1st round pick. RB was a pretty glaring need that year as well with Pittman, and an aging Alstott the primary ball carriers. Clayton got injured, and never returned to form. Him not gaining separation, and dropping passes is clearly documented. Not sure what Gruden has to do with that, unless Clayton got pissed and quit trying.Tampa drafted these guys to be the players they were in their rookie seasons. Coach Gruden, and Bruce Allen didn't do anything to magically make these guys suck. I just don't understand how a draft pick can be considered great after one season, and then end up being bad. Gruden, and Allen may not have hit on every draft pick, but show me a franchise that does.

Stranger still is that some combination of Shanahan, Gruden, Holmgren, Dungy and/or Cowher are all theoretically available, and yet Jauron is still a head coach.
Rubbing salt in my wound? Thanks!
Here, let me...Rumor has it Jauron was retained because Alex Trebek's current Jeopardy contract expires next year, freeing him up to take over the reigns of the Toronto Bills at that time. Cue "O Canada" anthem... :sadbanana:

I was never a fan of Gruden. His offense was seriously lack-luster and rarely did they take shots down the field. Dink-and-dunk-and-stall was about all I saw under his tenure. The defense was great, but that was Kiffin's domain, really. Gruden was supposed to be an offensive mind, but the Bucs' offense was pretty poor imo.

The funny thing is, now we have a defensive head coach and the defense sucks. Hmmm.... However, I think in this case, it is a situation where the talent is seriously lacking on the defensive side of the ball.

DL HAS to be a priority after this season. I would like to see all of the Bucs' first day picks spent on the defensive side of the ball and I would like to see the top picks spent on DL and LB if possible, maybe another CB as Ronde continues to age.

Time to break out that Championship DVD and give it another play.
Did that before the season started. How do you let Gruden leave. At least he made the team interesting.
If he isn't showing you why he should still be coaching in that MNF booth...but if he decides not to coach again which I cannot imagine, but should he stay on the tube he is awesome, best thing to happen to MNF in a long long time.

One line on Gruden's resume reads: 'I leave a path of destruction behind me'.

I have no idea why you think this clown is a good coach. Offenseive rank (in points scored) as a bucs HC, never better than 18th. Pathetic. The defense wasn't his. It was built by Dungy.

He certainly must be better than Jauron...

No it wasn't. Dungy (and Kiffin) inherited Sapp, Brooks, Nickerson, and Lynch. Those were the lynch-pins of the legendary Tampa-2 defense in Tampa of the late 90's/early 00's.Dungy AND KIFFIN invented the scheme...but the HOF-worthy talent was brought in by Sam Wyche and Rich McKay.And the thing that got the team over the hump was the ball-control offense from Gruden.Regarding Gruden, he had to go from Tampa because frankly I don't think he was mature enough yet. He burned a lot of bridges...had bad relationships across the board in the front office and with the players...and just needed to grow up a little. I'm sure he'll be ready for another shot soon.

Gruden does not want to coach next year. Still getting paid by TB and gets another year of stability for his kids.

Check back at the end of next year.
