He drew an illegal contact penalty on a pass that was definitely intended for him, but for some reason didn't get credited with another target (maybe because it wasn't catchable

The TE position is always tough to read when it comes to FFPA because not every team utilizes the position.
MIN has played 2 teams with serious TE elements, NO & NE. Gronk was still in his warmup phase in week 2, 4/32/0. NO with Jimmy, Watson and Hill went 9/112/1.

Hey it could have been RG, which is not good. When Reed went out game 1, Niles Paul went 4/86/0 with RG.

Adam, you've been touting Reed for awhile and I've agreed with your assessment. How do you view Reed going forward the rest of this year, and in dynasties? Have you lowered your expectations for him?

Not much. Guy's a talent. This we know. A few bad games here and there aren't going to concern me too much. Especially as all of the TEs around him are struggling as badly or worse- Eifert's hurt, Ertz is seeing his snaps reduced just as much as Reed (if not more- 24/86, 49/94, and 30/73 in his last three games), Ebron's looking bad, Green is glued to the bench, Cameron is concussed (again), and even Julius Thomas, despite the 10 touchdowns, is only on pace for 88 targets this season. Reed hasn't gotten a ton of snaps or targets the last two weeks, but everyone knows how important he is to the offense. Before every third down the announcers are circling him on the telestrator and talking about how he's the go-to in situations like these. I think it's probably more slump than harbinger.
Other than Martellus Bennett and maybe Travis Kelce or Dwayne Allen, there aren't many tight ends out there who are looking better today than they were a month or two ago. So in that environment, I'll stick with the proven talent and wait for health and playing time issues to work themselves out.
He's got talent, but he's not being used and he's been screwing me. I guess i'll hold onto him for another couple weeks but am going to have a hard time starting him

Paul is not a good blocker. He's just considerably better than Reed. Logan Paulsen, their "blocking" TE isn't very good at blocking either but he's better than Paul.
His pace since he came back from injury would work out to 84/812/0 over a full season. Yeah, sure, those 0 TDs hurt, but TDs are the most random and unpredictable of stats. The rest of it is pretty solid.

Yep. I think I might be picking up Rudolph who hopefully comes out the bye healthy. preemptively.
Reed's usage is the most disturbing thing. It just looks like Gruden wants the ball downfield to Jax, Roberts and Garcon. They have a lot of weapons, including Morris and Helu, and it should work out for everybody, but it hasn't. And NPaul has proved to be an excellent downfield threat, if they want the TE medium/deep they may very well be looking at him, not Reed. Too bad, good try.

I can't figure him out. He is healthy, but his snap count is down. I would think he would be on the field more than he has, and be more involved.

Why wouldn't I be serious? I'd say the same to you... you're saying Reed is a concussion away from Jahvid Best, career-ending territory. LeSean McCoy experienced a similarly traumatic (if not moreso) concussion in his past, but he's not considered one hit away from Jahvid Best.
A hamstring pull isn't a concussion. If you want to argue he'll never play a full season because he's "injury prone" then so be it. I don't personally buy that because I don't see a chronic issue, but I'm gonna call you out for arguing he's a hit to the head away from his career being over. By that logic so is McCoy... honestly so is every player that steps foot on the field.

Out of choices in my league - wire is stripped, and people want ridiculous prices for a useful TE on the trade market. Reed has the talent, and as Harstad pointed out, he's had one terrible game, but his pace is still solid, especially in this down year for the position.
Gotta hope he comes out of the bye strong.

Funny how what we think is a strength turns out to be a weakness. Seeing a lot of people with Reed/Ertz, Reed/Walker, Reed Vernon type of rosters that are dying right now.
I'm with you. Reed/Witten has killed me all year. Had a chance to get Ertz and declined. Think I am resigned to rolling Reed out there and hoping that he becomes functional.

Rudolph has been TD dependent in the past, although that could change with Bridgewater and the Norv Turner scheme. Reed doesn't seem to catch TDs now. I don't know who I'd rather have in PPR right now.

Dunno but seems like even though Reed and Garcon both proved to be very effective last year, the HC has a different philosophy in mind (which surprises me because I would think you would use your best talent.

Its a completely different offense this season which had me wondering why the talking heads and "experts" were so high on reed at the draft, yes he is very talented but this is the gruden/bengals offense now, anyone who drafted reed was overpaying for jermaine gresham numbers. 90% of this offense is slants and bombs to the Z receiver (aj green and now desean jackson), reed was never going to be a featured part or a red zone target.
So the 128 targets and 85 catches last year means this O isn't TE friendly? Not that you forgot about Eifert?

Good stuff and all true but the one thing that I've always criticized his offense for (and ones like it) is that when you have an offense schemed to feed one guy as heavily as they did AJ and now DJAX (I guess), at some point you have to evolve or you will get your lunch eaten in the NFL.
I think that this how we have seen things go in the NFL over the past few years with the emergence of several TEs and RBs that are more involved in the passing game than they were traditionally.
So in my mind it comes back to recognizing talent and then using it properly. Some teams do that very well. Some do not. And it seems to be no coincidence that the coaches that endure (like Tomlin and Arians, etc) are the ones that don't try to build everything around one guy just because he is THAT guy.
So I really expected the Redskins to use all these guys in multiple ways: RG III, MOrris, Garcon, Reed, DJAX. They look very dynamic on paper, Much like the Broncos or Packers. They can beat you many ways. But they seem to be more like the Eagles who seem hellbent on funneling everything through one or two guys and I think its the teams like this that it catches up to. You can do it for a while but at some point that just gets taken away and then it breaks down.
