LJ-Priest Rb Controversy? (1 Viewer)

"Things are about to get very interesting, because we're looking at a full-fledged running back controversy here," one Chiefs veteran said Sunday. “(Johnson) hasn't been playing all that well, and he's not big on pass-blocking – and Priest has looked good in practice, like the Priest of old. They've got to get him in there, and it'll be interesting to see how (Johnson) responds, because I could definitely see a blowup coming."

An interesting story indeed. What a strange year for fantasy football "stud" RB's. Maybe next year I'll just take Tom Brady in the first round and take my chances at RB.

hello? being an LJ owner i'd love to hear some insights from KC homers...what is this crap, is the guy legit? he's quoting a chief's veteran

Did anyone watch the game?

Does anyone know the contracts of the players in question?

Please.

If that one quote is accurate then it's pretty irresponsible. Why create controversy and risk sabotaging the season? I read other quotes from various players that basically said "It's inspiring to have Priest back"/"Nothing wrong with healthy competition"/etc. That should be the party line.

There should not be a downside to having a healthy Priest Holmes on your roster. Period.

"I hope it stays positive. It'll push Larry a little bit, and it should, but in a positive way. He shouldn't feel threatened, but it should make him better. Competition brings out the best in people."

He may be quoting one of Priest's good friends. They have a back that they JUST SIGNED to a huge contract and a THIRTY FOUR year old who is JUST coming back from neck/back/hip injuries. That highly paid RB is also JUST NOW getting into some sort of groove. There is no story here.

From stories I have read, I gather LJ does not have that many friends on the team and Holmes is a likable person. There is the root of your RB controversy.

Over the wkend, was watching NFL Matchup with Jaws, M.Hoge and "the other guy" (replaced Susy Kobler):

They were seriously criticizing LJ for his very lackluster blocking in Wk 6. even alluding to that he's not putting much effort into it.

They showed about 3 or 4 plays where he barely touched his blocking assignment and Huard got sacked hard.

LJ didn't even flinch and didn't even seem concerned with Huard and didn't help him up.

This is what I believe the OP quote is referring to..............and would explain why the rumors of LJ not being liked by teammates exist.

BTW: I'd rather watch NFL Matchup than any of the Sunday Pregame.

Comes on several times over the wkend, but my routine is to watch the Sunday 8:30am showing.

(just remembered...........other guy is Sal Palantonio)

An angry Larry Johnson is a great Larry Johnson. As an LJ owner, I hope this talk lingers and continues to piss him off.

This is true. His blocking has been really bad. I think having Priest only makes LJ and KC better since he has nice vision and is shifty. Bennett was a joke.

Chiefs homer here!! i read the Kansas City star religiously, and watched the entire game yesterday and heard nothing of the sort. Priest played sparingly, and had 4 rushes, and 1 catch. He didnt play that much, but looked OK. There is no way in h*** that LJ gets 50% of the carries going fwd with that contract he just signed. trust me.

Wouldnt surprise me one bit if Priest becomes the 3rd down back due to LJs poor blocking. If the veteran considers that a RBBC then I suppose he could be correct.

The Gonzalez quote in that story is the one to pay attention to. Where there's smoke, there's usually some fire...
What fire? Team discordance? Maybe. Priest threatening LJ for the starting role? Simply ludicrous.
The fact that Priest is in there and the players are talking about it positively. That's not to say he is going to put a real dent in LJ's production, but the fact that we are talking about PRIEST HOLMES is a big deal and a controversy in itself. From the above linked article:

"I still think we're underachieving, especially on offense," Gonzalez said. "We have the talent to be much better, and now, with Priest back, there's no reason we can’t score 24 points a game. If we could've done that every game, we'd be undefeated, and people would be talking about us along with the Patriots and the Colts.

Right or wrong, that's saying something....especially when you consider the source. If anybody is the leader of that team, it's Gonzalez. We're going to be hearing a lot more about this. That's all I'm saying...
