It's best solo song from a Wu Tang Clan member sir.My favorite wu tang song so I'll just take it now
Protect your neck, Wu Tang Clan, song with an athlete in it
Ill link it later

I'll change mine to a Prince protege group. I had it down between 3 and couldn't pick so I just went with the Keys cover.Yeah, with the Prince thing I wasn't really thinking straight cover songs. But if that's what you want to go with, it's o.k.

Does seem to give awful short shrift to picks 12 and beyond. Especially those poor orphan basterds 17 - 22. I mean should they really mean less? They are songs too.You got a taxi waiting outside?Round 10 - Saturday

Agree about the video/Alizee, but getting English translations of foreign songs is a bit dodgy.Awful Lyrics (but I love the song/video anyway)
Let's translate some of this.
Bubbles and water
Legs up for hours
My goldfish is under me...
I'm fed up with loneliness
With my uncle overstressed...
Fed up with the rain, the plane...
That makes me throw up again.
I'm fed up with all cynics
Bathing caps and all critics
I'm fed up with being fed up! Poor me!

Ramsay Hunt Experience said:Yeah, the Prince category isn't my category. But I didn't read it as encompassing covers like the Robyn cover. Of course, I understand that was probably the only option that JML had considering his all-Scandinavian theme.
Keys is defensible. She's not a protege, per se, because she was famous before doing much with Prince, but she did induct him into the Rock and Roll HOF (and Prince played the introduction at his shows). I think they've at least appeared at shows together.
I'm just serving prior notice that the first guy to pick Foo Fighters' Darlin' Nikki cover will get booed lustily.
Yeah, I didn't read enough into the category.I think we're doing this wrong. Shakira lists Prince as a primary influence but that's not the lineage. Posting the Alizee made me think of Shakira and I put it up. I'm throwing it back for something directly in the lineage.Songs from acts in the Prince/Minneapolis lineage, or produced by Prince, without Prince being the featured vocalist

Right in the middle of the glam era - I wish the guy would have been able to stick around. Lyrics aren't as weird as "The Slider" off the same album, but I like the song better. Slider brings back good memories of just coming into the teen years and getting some freedom from the parents.

Some are literal translations of words, without understanding of the mother language.
Not all languages work like English
The 23rd category was Karma Police's: "a song from an album that most influenced your musical tastes". We kept Usual21's "80s movie soundtracks category" and added a third mulligan.I thought we added a 23rd category. Did that not stick?

Wouldn't exactly call that Minnie screaming, but I like that tune. She had incredible range.Oh man this song will bind my mix together splendidly.
Round Next:
My teenager is such a music junkie she'd get frustrated if I didn't keep her in a steady supply of Itunes cards. I think it's great. She watches less than three hours of tv a week. Video games have never been a big thing for her. $10 a month for Spotify is saving me money and getting us way more music. We share the account, which only rarely creates an issue. Neither of us has purchased music in over a year, but we're both listening to new stuff constantly. Sharing has caused us to open horizons by listening to each others playlists. She went through a grunge phase that just made me happy. Now she wants to know everything there is to know about the 60s and 70s. I've shown her this draft and she said she was going to fill out the categories this weekend and try to get a group of facebook friends to start doing music drafts. SpotifyI've subscribed to Spotify for like 15 months now and I've probably bought less than 5 albums since then. Aside from a few bootlegs and mixtapes, pretty much everything in my iTunes library is on Spotify....
If you're listening to music all day like I am, it's a no-brainer. Best (monthly) $10 I've ever spent.
can you update post #3? Thanks! The 23rd category was Karma Police's: "a song from an album that most influenced your musical tastes". We kept Usual21's "80s movie soundtracks category" and added a third mulligan.I thought we added a 23rd category. Did that not stick?
All good picks - nice.I'm throwing back Alizee and Shakira. I guess it was guilty pleasure day yesterday. The following keep my mix sensible.
Sad
If you've been through it with a loved one... so very very sad. Hell, even if you haven't.
8.xx My Chemical Romance - Cancer
#### Cancer.
Beatlesesque
Speaking of grunge. I never thought about it until researching, but a favorite Soundgarden song fits this category. I was looking for what someone in this thread mentioned being missing -- early beatles sound. There's plenty from the 60s and 70s. Later efforts are a little heavy or too cheesy... just from what I found. I like a couple discoveries from this draft and have been on a beatlesesque kick (with the aforementioned daughter). I have about 30 nice ones that fit, but...
9.xx Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Catching up again...
Religious/Non
Could change this to 1971. Man, I had a blast reliving this jam. I was just scanning old prog standards for my mix and bam. I haven't heard it in so long it felt new again.
10.xx Jethro Tull - Hymn 43
“I wanted to work with him and had a message sent through to his camp. He responded favourably so I flew to Paisley Park and we sat and talked”.
For the trip she took along her lyric book. “I had a notebook with a lot of lyrics,” she said. “‘Love Thy Will Be Done’ was a prayer that I had written in my notebook. I showed him some of my stuff and he said ‘would you mind if I borrow your book for a few hours’. I said ‘cool, no problems’. He asked if he could photocopy a few things that he liked and I had no problem with that. I had no idea what the process for collaborating on music with him would be because it is always different with everybody. For him, he said ‘I have photocopied a few things. Why don’t you just let me live with this for a bit and we’ll go from there’. So I flew home to L.A”.
About a week later, Prince made contact again. “A fax came through with a song with a bunch of my lyrics with some of his lyrics. The next day I received a cassette. (Now we are really dating ourselves). There were several songs, basic tracks with just drums, bass and some changes with background vocals. That’s how I first heard it. My prayer was turned into ‘Love Thy Will Be Done’ and from there he sent me the master”.
The remainder of the song was done in Los Angeles. “I went into the studio in L.A. with the people that I was working with and started working on my vocal. After that he sent me the rest of the copies. I never went back to Paisley Park to work with him. I just finished the music with different people that I knew. That’s how it came together. It was a strange process.
