MAD's ROUND 2!! # 1's have been posted!! (1 Viewer)

Well ****e, Royksopp will have a cover of another artist on this countdown. Plus theres also the samples, several, including some funk royalty

Tears for Fears have some covers on their b sides or somewhere. Cant recall any off the top of my head. Actually Tears for Fears covered one of their own songs lol. Both will make the list

A) Do your own list, submit and be done with it. Hi Tim

If I could do this, I'd do a list myself, but I just feel way too bad about that. And it doesn't do an artist justice. Tim was fortunate because his artist (Elton John) was already well known, but with a lesser-known, I feel like explaining your love for them really can be important.
Yep. It's a me problem, but my submission of a list leaves me then feeling committed. I didn't enjoy the countdown in which I fell woefully behind, felt I didn't contribute enough during, and while a similar dynamic predictably happened this summer only having 3 play lists per week enabled me to just stay up to date enough to feel fulfilled and provide +EV. I'm probably taking this one off, but we'll see how the next few weeks go.

We'll have a few covers with Tanya D, only the ones she really does something with.

If I had chosen my other artist, our covers cup would be runnething over

I'm guessing hers will fall into the category of me not knowing the original, but we will see. It's not that I hate covers (well, there is that NIN cover I hate that most love) just usually prefer the original. They are fun, for sure.
How about Collective Soul

vs

Dolly Parton?
Dolly Parton was on my shortlist of possible artists for this round.
Again, have you looked at her catalogue? It's pages long. I don't really need a list of her greatest hits. I want the obscure great stuff as well.

Scott Hutchison

Oh noes, who got a vacation?
Actually, that's my daughter. She joined the board yesterday so she could participate in this next countdown---she's a bigger Frightened Rabbit fan than even me.

 Welcome, Dreaded Marco-ette! I'm very excited not only for Scott Hutchison (I know you and I discussed choosing Frightened Rabbit in round one), but especially to have her here!

I felt similar, but I've accepted that I simply can't make an every-list-reveal post about individual songs I liked / etc. This last one, I did that for a little while, but it was starting to feel like obligation/work. I did occasionally call out bands and songs that suprised me, and I doled out a ton of likes, but after the first few lists I generally stuck to commenting on my own ELO pick and leaving it at that. It enhanced my enjoyment a lot.

@Zegras11 I'm gonna gamble that even if work life is still nuts come mid October (it will) that removing coaching responsibilities from my plate will free up the time I need, so I'll throw my name into the ring.

Incubus - this is the one I wanted @Yo Mama to pick.
Haha, this was going to be my third round pick or my replacement of Beastie Boys we’re taken.

Can’t wait to hear your list.

I'm down. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is an album I underrated at the time, and listen to a lot now.

ETA: But yet another band I like peripherally, but never listened to more than an album or two for some reason.

Incubus was on my short list. I ended up going Faith No More to get extra weird.

I forget, you go FNM or Patton?

Reading up on Mastodon there were a few Mr. Bungle references, but I don't know I've ever heard a song of theirs.

FNM only. I couldn't possibly listen to all of the other Patton projects, too...but I am a big fan of Tomahawk and Mr Bungle (the newest album was one of my pandemic favorites). His one Peeping Tom album was really fun, too.

You want it all, but you can’t have it.

I think the next Incubus song I listen to will be my first.
You will recognize at least three or four, unless you lived in a cave from '99 to ~2006

I have not gone back a whole lot, but I dig the pick. I will be sure to piss and moan when my favorite doesn't make the list

They were one of the better bands on modern rock radio from about '98-onward. They got big. They definitely have a distinct sound. The singer sort of often scats over the verses and then they explode into big choruses. There's stuff to like there if you're disposed to that sort of thing.
Hugely influenced by Faith No More but they really made their own sound pretty early on

Uh oh.

If true, you're in for a real treat.

I think I mentioned this in MAD Vol. 1, but I was pretty much in a cave music-wise from say 1995 - 2001. I kept up with a few artists (including one which may pop up in a Vol. 3 if we do one), but didn't really expand the palette much during these years (newly married, kids to raise, etc.).

I will deliberately refrain from exploring any Incubus and let the treat come to me.
