MAD's ROUND 2!! # 1's have been posted!! (6 Viewers)

I hope you’re still going to the Pixies/Modest Mouse show in Boise tomorrow night.

Just saw it in SLC tonight and it was a great show.

More than half of the Modest Mouse set list tonight was on my MAD top 31 playlist from the last thread.

Never did get tickets... and don't know if I'd be recovered enough to make it LOL. We wound up about 40 feet from the stage. Just an incredible show from start to finish.
Nice! Here are the sets from Modest Mouse and Pixies from last night---they'll likely be similar in Boise tonight. That would make for 2 consecutive long concert nights. I'm too old for that now too :lmao:

Look at these guys, going to concerts of their artist! 😭

I know we discussed, but what’s the official ruling on covers? I have 4 on my list right now. Could make them honorable mentions. Also, if we want the live version over the recording does that matter? Do we uses link, YouTube, pandora, etc or do we just list the song?
When do we get the sheets?

@-OZ- there are no rulings needed. The only rule is submit 20-31 songs that your artist was involved with. The discussion largely came from me and other just discussing preferences on covers or why I don't tend to gravitate to them. Live/album does not matter as well. Most use spotify and playlists come from there, so if there is a tie breaker you might want to see if a live version is on Spotify, but even that hasn't stopped people, so it's up to you. You give us the 20-31 Buffett songs you want to give us, gb.

ETA: Zegras is still working on the sheet. It was easy to load last time, and there was a line to copy/paste your link. In there you can put spotify link, youtube link, or both.

I’ll probably use YouTube videos, I don’t have Spotify 🤷

That's what I have to do. People seem to have worked it out.

I'm always grateful for playlist assistance.

Thinking of going chronological for Sia. She's gone from acid-jazz to jazzy rock to pop music, with a few bouts of alcohol/drug/health issues in between that really comes through in her music.
Kind of set up for a chronological list.

That's fine. Just so you and other who do the same know - as I load up the Spotify playlist I will try to match up what I see in the youtube link with what I find, but sometimes I can't. Either it's not on the service, or not live.

I'm not sure how I will rank these, as I like so much of them on a very high, equal level.
Isn’t this always a “problem”?
I have a tier system going. The top 10ish are very clear, then it gets foggy. Even among the ten there can be movement on any given Monday.

My brother in law has signed up but can't yet post messages for some reason.

His screen name is Salteriffic---he is going to take Nick Cave.
Nick Cave was on my short list, but I realized I was not up to the task of absorbing his body of work and sorting the top 31. That's a lot of work; power to him.
On the third album now and he’s turning into a darker Tom waits. It is work to listen to all the albums

Welcome to FBG. I know you’re up to the task!

31 is set in stone. The final song stuck for a week, so it's officially in. Hopefully it's not being annoying to start the discussions of people's plans or artists. This probably makes more sense in my hazy head than it does written out, but what I decided on is to play the full album the lovely gentlemen in the photo are holding up start to finish in order. That is 11 songs.

My plan was to tell the story of the band in between playing songs from the album in question. The reason for this is IMO it's a perfect metal album as I said before, it's where I would have a new to Mastodon listener start, and as I listened I came to the conclusion that it was also a perfect culmination of their talents and aging as a band. What I did is started with a list of about 27 other songs that I obsessively listened and try to pick the best songs to match and flow with the album we are listening to. It might lose a little in the translation with the slow reveal, but if anybody listens to it on it's on at the end? I think it's one of the better playlists I've assembled for one of our crazy adventures. To get even nerdier, songs 2,3,5,6,8, and 9 matched up very nicely with telling their story chronologically - so those will go in release order of albums. The rest I treated like a true flowing playlist and tried my best to match styles and tones together. So for example the heavier songs at the end of the album will be paired more with their earlier heavier songs, and the middle group match better with newer tunes.

So the pattern is: Track 1, other, other, Track 2, other, other, Track 3, etc.. With the album opener and closer also opening and closing the playlist.

Sorry. :nerd: :bag:

Welcome aboard. I took a look at Nick Cave's discography, and it's intimidating. I won't shine a light on any particular recording, but speaking of dark, one album makes Murder Ballads sound like a joyous singalong by comparison. Look forward to the reveals.

After 100 hours of listening to Neko Case and pondering, I needed a palate cleanser - and I found one. I belive Humanzee picked this band in a recent thread, and I loved his selection (something, something, murder, it was), but this song has captured my attention tonight. I've played it six times in a row, and I think I have six more in me.

You construct playlists like some prog bands construct suites.

I'll do a band I am very familiar with and considered using for round 1.

Collective Soul

Excellent. I really liked their first 3 albums but lost track after that.
Much like my acdc picks I have lots of favorites from the early albums. Hopefully there will be a few new-to-yous that you like too.
If I did a top 31 Collective Soul, I think legitimately every song from the self titled would make the cut.

(y) Not one bad track on it.

I did get THIS shirt in the mail today, so I am rocking that. My daughter said it was scary and just stared at it though. I also have 3 more on the way as I felt I needed to up the Mastodon:Opeth metal t-shirt ratio. If I were less self-conscious I would have a wider variety of bands. Some can get a bit gnarly.

I probably should get THESE to go with the shirts though.

Damn. They're out of small. Oh well, KP. Maybe they'll restock.

eta* That is a really funny pair of shorts. And no surprise that they sold out of small. Had a girl in the family that loved booty shorts and the smaller, the better.

If I see you on the street, I'm crossing to the other side.

I think back in the day it was sort of the point with some of the shirts I chose. I got away from them for quite a while, but I'm now back to the normal KP uniform - jeans, metal shirt, Mariners cap.
