McGahee's backup - who is it? (1 Viewer)

pre-season wisdom says Rice. Early games it was McClain. Last three games, we have had a relatively healthy McGahee, but Rice has had more carries than McClain.

As of today, 10/29, who should be considered McGahee's handcuff?

(or, to frame the question in terms of WDIS, is Rice worth a pick-up as a McGahee owner?)

It's Rice but the McClain role (TD vulture, short ydg, COP) is always there when he's healthy.
Rice was slow to pick up blocking scemes early, and had some dropping issues---w/McGahee banged up early, McClain had the nod for the heavier roleRice has gained the trust of HC & OC, so he sees an increased workload asCofP and 3rd down guyif McGahee were to go down for an extended period of time, McClain would be the more valuable, as I see him getting the start over RRright now, w/everyone healthy, Rice has more week-to-week potential over McClain

IMO McClain is McGahee's backup, Rice is becoming the third down COP guy. If McGahee goes down McClain stands to benefit the most.

I think they have pretty well-defined roles. If Baltimore is ahead and they need to batter some people and chew up some yards, then McClain is the guy. If they're behind and they need to open it up a bit then Rice is their guy.

Well that settles that. The question was... WHO is McGahee's backup? If he goes down, who gets the start?

Here... this should clear it up.

Baltimore Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh press conference 10-29-08

(On Ray Rice having a bigger role in the second half)- “I think it just depends on how everything evolves. We think he’s had a pretty big role the first half of the season and has made some pretty big plays for us. Of course Willis (McGahee) has played well, especially when he’s been healthy and LeRon McClain has been a big part of our running game. We want all three of those guys to be a huge part of what we’re doing the last part of the season.”

McClains role has been diminishing while Rice's has been increasing. McClain is the starting FB and if Mcgahee got hurt I'm pretty sure Rice would line up at RB with McClain at FB.

McClain's rolw is a lot like Earnest Graham's this season.

I don't see that.
