McNabb speaks on local Philly Radio (1 Viewer)

About 10% of the way through and nothing negative. He just reiterates that he was surprised. His focus is on rehabbing and coming back and doing what he has to do. Reid left a message saying that there's nothing to it, just that it was BPA according to their board.

Too lazy to listen, anyone have a recap?
Donovan, what were you doing when you heard about the pick?-Getting ice cream with my daughter.

What was your reaction?

-I said really? A QB with our first pick? (to my brother via cell phone)

What did you do next?

-Continued with my ice cream and sprinkles.

Actually, he specifically claimed he didn't eat any ice cream. It was his daughter's. He claimed he's on a strict rehabilitation regimen.

Anyone else have a little problem with this?I mean, this guy gets paid boatloads of money and is the supposed leader of the team. Wouldn't you think he'd be watching the draft and paying attention to it? I know he really would have much say in who the Eagles draft (although I'm sure Reid would at least listen to what he thinks), but you'd think that draft day would be a pretty important day for the leader of the football to team to see where the team is heading.

Not at all.BTW, if he is involved next year, get ready for the "Does anyone have a little problem with this? I mean he's just their QB, yet he is trying to inject himself into personnel matters." postings.

Isn't that what General Managers, Scouts, VP's of Player Personnel, Coaches, Owners, etc. all are PAID to do? I believe McNabb is paid to get healthy, train, and get ready for the season.

McNabb hs not finished three of the last 4 years.

And now coming off another major surgery, this time his knee. McNabb should just keep his mouth shut and rehab.

I am starting to wonder if Owens may have had a legit beef in Philly. McNabb seems awful insecure.

Maybe he is, but you there is no evidence of it from this interview.BTW, Montana was notoriously insecure. It did not prevent him from being a darn fine QB.

This thread is a classic example of looking for a problem when non exists. Often there is tension between players and management. It happens in all business and all types of personalities. The Philly media will harp on any and everything to write an interesting story so expect to hear lots of questions. Adn of course they won't have answers.

LOL, the guy gets called out for being with his daughter . . . to reiterate a previous post, a team has a GM and president and etc., to track the draft . . . McNabb's job is to play QB . . . this is what I get for being on a football board in May; where there is no news, create some . . .

Maybe Donnie Mac should cut back on the ice cream during the off season so that he doesn't spend the 4th quarter of games being shown on the jumbo-tron puking all over the field.
Maybe you should bother to read the thread before posting :D

What he wasn't eating ice cream with his daughter ? Sorry but if you have watched the Eagles year after year you know that Donnie puts on quite a bit of weight during the season. He has done this throug his college career as wel.l Even in college he would often be fatigued at the end of games and then start puking. It has happened several times thus far in his Pro Career and one of them was in the"big game".

Outside of the SB I've never heard that he's done that. What other games did this happen? I would've thought it would of been covered in the news. Please share. Also, the comment about the ice cream is kind of silly really. It doesn't have anything to do with his conditioning.

Tampa Bay game last year

I remember him pucking at the end of a game his senoir year at Syracuse. It was a home game relatively late in the season. He'd just made a long run or something.

McNabb is NOT the leader of that team. No matter how many times HE says he is.

The 1 thing in that interview that was interesting was McNabb calling out the Eagles management (and possibly Reid directly) for leaking the fact that he and Reid had a face to face at the complex after the draft. He also talked about the Eagles FO leaking info about failed contract talks last year.

:banned:
A number of McNabbs teammates have openly questioned McNabbs' so-called leadership. Hugh Douglas, Jerimiah Trotter, obviously TO. I watch EVERY Eagles game and I dont see him doing "Leader" type things. I have never heard of him exerting himself in the locker room as a leader either. If you think he is the LEADER of the team give me examples where the other players have "followed" him or where he has exerted this leadership that you think he has.

Name one teammate other than Owens. Hough Douglas doesn't count as a teammate, considering he's not on the team and has just been unable to move on with his life. i'm not saying no one has, I'd just like to see some kind of quote from someone. The problem is you're confusing vocal leadership with example leadership. Dawkins is undoubtedly a leader on the Eagles, as is Trotter, as you said. They're vocal leaders. They're the guys that get everyone fired up before a game. McNabb doesn't do that, but that doesn't mean he's not a leader. He leads by his example, putting up Ws and good numbers. For as much as everyone says he has a bad attitude, I've seen very little proof of that. He leads by his attitude as well. He's never thrown anyone under the bus, besides maybe Owens, that I can think of. He doesn't constantly complain, although many have the false notion he does. He goes out there and does his job.Anyway, if you need some quotes, here's what a quick search has turned up.
"Donovan is a competitor, a leader and he was having a great season.
-Jeff Garcia
“Obviously everyone knows Donovan [McNabb] is the man. He’s the team leader.
-TrotterFrom that quote, I'd say Trotter doesn't judge McNabb's leadership contrary to what you had said.
"I've stepped up and spoken a little more just to let the guysknow they have my support, and they have responded," Westbrooksaid. "Donovan was the kind of a leader we have depended on alot for those things."
-WestbrookMcNabb IS a leader on that team, despite what haters and critics say. Just as this thread started, this is just looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

Here's a few more. It would appear both players and coaches alike agree that McNabb is a leader on that team.

He (McNabb) is our leader and he's the man around here.
-LJ Smith
Our biggest strength is Donovan Mcnabb. He is our leader of this offense.
-Reid
"Calling that practice is what makes him a great leader, calling group practices without the coaches around so we can get better."
-Reggie Brown
"Donovan, because he is the leader of this team and because he has had that role, he doesn't show tons and tons of emotion when he is down, so he was pretty steady last night.
-Head Athletic Trainer Rick Burkholder
Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown told the Inquirer that he disagreed with Douglas."To me, that is disrespecting guys he played with," Brown told the newspaper. "How can you say guys like Brian Dawkins or Jon Runyan aren't leaders? It's a comment that doesn't speak fairly to guys we have in the locker room, and I think that is just radio talk."I don't care what Hugh says," Brown said. "Quite frankly, the guys I am playing with I trust, and I trust the leaders we have. I am around them every day, and Hugh isn't around them every day."
It would seem to me if you're going to say Dawkins is a leader but McNabb isn't, you can't cite someone who disagrees with half of your argument. Citing Douglas as a source that McNabb isn't a leader when he also says Dawkins isn't a leader is just ridiculous IMO. I think everyone can at least agree Dawkins is a leader.

It happened several times at Cuse as well. The point wasn't that the guy was eating ice cream boys... The point is that every season he lets himself get out of shape. Look at pictures of him at the seasons start and then at the end of the season, I bet he puts a good 10 lbs of blubber on.

As for Donnie being a leader...

Nobody can really say if he is or isnt a great leader, we arent in the locker room. You also cant believe everything players say in the media. Do we really expect everyone to come out and bash McNabb ? What happend the last time that happend?

Who are we to decide if he's the leader or not? Isn't that up to the team and the coach? We've seen plenty of evidence to support that he is. You seem bent on bashing by these comments and taking any situation and making it seem like a negative. Take your pucking comment for example. You really think he's the first one to do that? You think he's the only one? And you think that means he's out of shape and not a leader? Clearly you have an agenda and it's to make McNabb look bad. You have a right to your opinion but I think you couldn't farther from the truth.

News flash...the NFL draft is boring. Honestly, it is. Sure, diehards like us watch the thing and dissect very pick but the vast majority of people don't. I distinctly recall an interview with Steve Young once where he said he never watched an NFL draft until he was out of the league. Was he a bad teammate? Was he not a leader? When you're on a team for 8 years, you are used to the comings and goings. You also have seen enough free agents and draft picks to know that the reactions to the talking heads rarely amounts to much. McNabb knows from personal experience when the Boo Birds attacked him on draft day that fans don't, in aggregate, know anything about NFL personnel evaluation.

He has zero input in who the team selects [nor should he] and as we know from the interview he had people keeping him apprised of each pick.

I was out that Saturday with my sons, does that make me a bad fan? LOL.

 Eskin would've LOVED to drum up controversy and McNabb didn't even nip at the bait. I don't see how anyone listening to this interview could discern even a hint of consternation on McNabb's part.

Much ado about nothing; and I'm pretty disappointed to see Sal Paolantonio leading the way in this goose chase.
