So, uh, I’m in the ER. My stomach hasn’t been right for about a month. On Thursday I went to the doctor who prescribed omeprazole and said to call back if I developed chills or a fever. Tonight I got both. The doctor on call said to go to the ER in case it’s an appendix or gallbladder issue.
If it's been going on for a month then it's not acute appendicitis. Gallbladder, definitely possible, along with a few other things.

Best wishes and I hope they figure it out soon.
Thanks. It’s weird, I’d be in intense pain and then the next day I’d be fine. It seemed to me to be tied to what I ate but that could just be my perception.

I do wonder if there is a stone. My mother has a history of them.

They are going to admit me and perform a CT scan.
Good. Sounds like gall stones or pancreatitis are possibilities. Have you had any blood work done already?

Admit is probably the wrong word at this time. They are going to get me an ER bed once one is available.

Yes. They just took blood and gave me an ECG.

I hope it’s not pancreatitis. My wife has that and it sucks.

Yea likely not appendix - that's much faster (happened to me - got mine out when I was 30. One day of feeling lousy, couldn't sleep that night, then went to the hospital where they did a test or two and took it out right then) .

Hoping for the best Pip.

So some big ELO songs have already come. One more on Sunday then a few deeper cuts. Then more hits. They have a lot.

Evil Woman is one of my favorites. It's off the Face the Music album, which was somewhat of a transition album. They were moving away from the deep cellos and quasi-progressive rock and more into the mainstream pop arena that they became well known for. This album somewhat bridges both eras, and is one of my favorites from them. I think I have five songs from it in this countdown.

I think Face the Music and A New World Record are the sweet spot for them. Not too prog but not too pop.

And I didn't say anything about All Over the World when it was posted, but I will now. I was a big fan by then, and was excited they were doing the soundtrack to what looked like a major movie. Olivia Newton John was a pretty big star then, so what could go wrong? Well, like everyone at the time, I was pretty let down by the movie, but the soundtrack was still excellent.

Like someone mentioned in this thread, if you lived that era, the song brings you right back to the skating rink as a teenager. It's also got that classic ELO "gotta have one weird part in the song" where they count out all the cities. When i was a kid I thought "Shard End" was a major city that I just didn't hear of (as I heard of all the others), but it's a minor little place, except for the fact Jeff Lynn grew up there.

Doesn't work that way. I had symptoms for about six weeks before it blew up on me. Also, chronic appendicitis is a thing.

Feel better, Pip.

It does work that way for acute appendicitis.

I know chronic appendicitis is a thing. But it accounts for 1% of appendicitis in adults, so not likely the cause of Pip's symptoms, but obviously not out of the question. The CT scan should hopefully rule that out or in. Quick fix if it is, though. Best of luck, Pip!

My notebook might not be up to date as I had a list that was expecting:
  • Porcupine Tree
  • Donald Fagan
  • BTO
  • Beyonce
  • ZZTop
  • Taylor Swift
  • Les Claypool

Did some drop out? Change artists? Other than ZZTop and DF/Steely Dan I don't think I'd know 31 songs combined from the other artists. Was looking forward to some insight into them.
Fagan and Swift are coming up. The otrhers did not submit lists

Damn, Pip. Hoping for the best outcome. I had similar symptoms several years ago and it turned out my gall bladder was full of gravel, so it got yanked out. It's not a big deal. You may find some food types agree with you less afterwards, but that's about it.

This is more or less the case. Details later after I’ve had sleep.

Big Thief continues not disappointing. (y)
Glad you are enjoying them so much. I’m curious what you will think of the next song- it’s kind out of left field for them.

you know i'm thoroughly enjoying Big Thief ... but i'm just waiting for the curtain to be pulled on them being derivative, too ... we'll see.

I'M ROOTIN' FOR YA/THEM!
Not sure if you will ultimately find them derivative or not but they have a few more gears that haven’t come up yet.

i'm not the one calling out "derivative" in this thread - i find them to be a welcome breath of cigs stained air, and i'm loving it.

woulda never heard of them without ya - so, thank you 👍
Ahhhh I surely missed something somewhere. Glad to share. I’m enjoying Bauhaus and look forward to their playlist. Not quite what I usually listen to but I like them. I guess that’s the beauty of this little exercise.

you always bring the quality, friend ... whether it's flix or tunes - i appreciate it very much.

my advice on the 'haus would be to wait til after the reveals are complete - it ain't much of a catalog, but it are deep and dark and delicious.

btw, as to not be misconstrued as slagging my guys here by saying "ain't much of a catalog", lemme clarify by saying i meant that in the sense of them only being together for roughly 5 years - ergo their body of work are not as prodigious as many of the artists here ... but, as stated, it is very deep in quality and diverse styles - whittling them down to 31 were painful, and i'm quite certain if another 'haus frau were to craft a list it would be very different ... and they might even be taken aback by a few of my selections/omissions.

anyways ... coming up next (tomorrow?) are one of Murphy's great vocal flexes - i've tailored the back end of this (BINKY: front end) with more nods to the musicians ... though "All We Ever Wanted Was Everything" sorta became Murphy's signature vocal encore turn thru the various reunion tours/shows ... "Dancing" also showcases his vocal chops, as they are as nasty as that bassline - but i've just barely scratched the surface with Petey - big pipes upcoming.

Learned something new today. I did not know it could happen like that - I always thought it was a more immediate thing like mine was. Everyone else I knew who got theirs out was similar - like a day or two, then out. That must have been a lousy six weeks. Did they know it was the appendix during your symptoms? Or was it one of those "something's up but not going to the doctor quite yet".

My #27 reactions
(These come off like Joe Bryant’s Random Thoughts)

Decembrists - I really liked this but some of the music reminded me of that Gary Glitter song.
Nice work studs!

BTW, it was on the tip of the brain what We All Die Young reminded me of and you nailed it with Rock 'n' Roll (Part 2) (included here for comparison sake)
Reminded me of Spirit in the Sky
You’ve got a friend in Decembrists.
If you have a knife you can be friends with Phish as well.

I like most everything from the #27s. Below are a few new to me favorites, but I like a lot more than I'm writing.

End of Miles
Mama Werewolf
Dusk
Stang's Swang
If You Really Love Me
Prisoners
Dancing
We All Die Young
The Seven Rays
All Your Life
Ágætis byrjun
Knowledge
Spoon, MM, and Stranglers

A few known favorites are below.

The Great Disclosure
Evil Woman
Poem 58
The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine
It's Alright for You
Coming Up Roses
TNT
New York, New York

Listening to the lists is order is part of it, but I'm noticing I can identify most of the artists within a few seconds. Might try a shuffle round for #26 to see how that changes things.

My #26 Brandi Carlile song will be the end of a tier (I have my list sorted into 6 tiers), so I'll do a longer write up after that is released. It's the last single/non BC album cut the rest of the way except for one more from the Highwomen.

I killed JZilla's gall bladder with thermonuclear wings maybe a dozen years ago. I'm sure it must have been pretty far gone already but I guess the insanely hot wing sauce was the final straw. All I know is that when I left his apartment at 1 am, he was slightly drunk, a bit heart-burned, and playing cards with Smoo. The next morning, I get the call that an ambulance took him for a ride around 5 am and he was now gall bladderless.

If You Really Love Me
You never heard this before? That shocks me, knowing a little of your musical tastes.
I've never heard it, or if I did, I don't remember it. I don't know all of Stevie's albums/songs. I have his Inversions and Songs in the Key of Life albums, and I know the radio stuff, and some other random songs. I think the reason I never explored his music thoroughly years ago, is because sometimes (not always) his nasally voice would start to bug me. I've always liked him. Anyway, the nasalness doesn't bug me anymore, so I like hearing these songs by him that I don't know. I click on other songs on the albums that the songs are showing up on, too. I'm glad you picked Stevie.

I did not need to be admitted. It turned out to be diverticulitis. I didn’t suspect that because the pain has felt different from when I had diverticulitis attacks about 15 years ago. Eating bad chicken salad on May 16 must have triggered it, and the pain would return whenever I ate something that was too much for my system to handle. I have been prescribed Augmentin. They did ultrasound and CT scan and all that showed up was evidence of diverticulitis. No stones, nothing wrong with appendix, gallbladder or pancreas.

All in all, that is probably the best case scenario. Though I will throw out that about 2 years ago my BIL dealt with the same thing. They treated him for diverticulitis but he still felt weird and food/drinks weren’t sitting super well with him for months and months. Then he felt horrible one night, was totally pale and he got taken to the ER. Turns out he didn't really have diverticulitis but a screwed up gall bladder (not sure what exact;y). It got removed and he's all good now but just worth looking back into if the meds for diver don't totally fix you.

Yikes. Given that I have a history of diverticulitis, I’m pretty sure that’s actually what is happening.

Augmentin are no joke - if you are a coffee drinker, make sure you're never more than 2 feet away from the nearest terlit for the next week or so.
😁

I don’t drink coffee.

My wife had a bad experience with Augmentin as a teenager so she wasn’t thrilled that it was what they chose for me.

I'm not too familiar with diverticulitis, but now that it has been diagnosed I hope you the treatment yields good health.

Had a similar experience 12-15 years ago. Was having some strange, kind of dull pain in my lower abdomen. It was a Saturday night and I diagnosed myself with appendicitis (thanks, internet), so I drove to the ER. Turns out I was constipated and I was prescribed magnesium citrate and dulcolax.

Yeah I almost died. The greasiest wings in the world were the final straw.

I was a mess. Still am I guess, but I don’t eat like Blutarsky anymore.

Did you get them at Bill Bateman's? Are those places even around anymore?

I did go to the doctor. I spent a couple of days in the Quack Shack because I felt so bad. (I was in college.) But those symptoms are often very non-specific. It kept happening on and off for a few weeks until it went critical. My friend's dad had symptoms for about six months before his appendix burst while he was walking down his driveway. He almost died from the subsequent peritonitis. Such fun.

That's where the Gingerbread Man used to be, right? On Ritchie Hwy? I know there was one somewhere in Reisterstown, another in Clarksville out in Howard County, and one in Hanover, PA. I know this because I drank like a fish in all of them.
