Middle Aged Dummies!! Artists #1's have been posted!! (2 Viewers)

Looking forward to quite a number of these! 47 artists, and it only helped narrow down my top choices a little >.>
Eh, what the heck. Plenty of both bigger and smaller names. Let me stick in my comfort zone.
I select Alice in Chains.
If anyone else undecided had them high up, let me know and I can see about digging a little deeper!

The 5 lists I am most looking forward to
Stevie Wonder
Heart
Daft Punk
Bauhaus
Damon Albarn - Is this including Gorillaz, Blur, the Good tge Bad and the Queen etc?

5 lists I am looking forward to as the best is fantastic, but loads of shiiite to wade through too
Chicago
Doves
Bruce Springsteen
Simin and Garfunkel
ELO

Please let me know if Sigur Ros is too out there for this type of thing. I can do my original selection. I’m new at these at not sure what people like and don’t know what to expect.

Well, I know that Rush was one of them.
This is the one that had three votes at #1 choice.
@Zegras11 Following is a quote of the message I sent you....

Hey there — I’m going to be too busy for this “x-songs from 1-band”-draft….however: If there is no one that lists Rush as their #1 choice, I’d volunteer to take them.

Just to be clear, while Rush is my #1 choice (without a #2, etc.), I only have time to do this to defend Rush from the unclean, heathen, diseased haters. If someone else wants Rush, please give it up for them 8thumbup8.gif

Thanks!

I really don't have much time for this so if someone else really wnts Rush, hey can have them -- I simply wanted them represented and will bow out. OTOH; I can pick a different band (which hasn't been picked) to give someone else their #1 Rush pick.

Thoughts?

If I was going to do Rush, I'd pick their 31 shortest songs in descending order.

Sigur Ros is not too far out there for this sort of thing. They're an Icelandic post rock band, right? They're all good here. I was going to say that I was quite looking forward to the list, as I like post rock but have never been into SIgur Ros.

Definitely- they are one of the bands I was referring to above that I enjoy but haven’t heard more than a handful of songs from

2Just Win BabyFoo Fighters

The Foos are among my top favorite artists of all time, along with Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, and Linkin Park. I would have happily done lists for any/all of these, but we have obviously done Led Zeppelin previously.

I don't have a feel for how many posters here like the Foos. I hope there are some fans here besides me.

I will be selecting from my catalog of 190 FF songs. Their new album is due for release on June 2, but I don't anticipate I will include any of those songs since I probably won't have enough time to get familiar.

my thoughts... most everyone put that type of disclaimer. Two others had Rush #1. You guys can work it out and let me know.

@Sullie @Val Rannous

So this is strictly a ranking in order we like them? I was thinking of tweaking a bit to put a few songs that I would rank highly towards the end because they might be better introductions to the band.

5The Dreaded MarcoModest Mouse

@The Dreaded Marco list changer changed his #1 to this earlier today.

They are playing this summer in Boise and I was thinking of going, but wanted to hear more from them.

After PM'ing back and forth a bit, turns out he lives near SLC, and I'm seeing The Cure there on 6/4. He said he's likely going to go to that and possibly come to Boise for the Mouse/Pixies show.

After the Peter Cetera/Glory of Love talk, some of you might be worried about my selection of Chicago. Don’t be. I’m basically going to treat them as if the band died when Terry Kath did (in early 1978). It’s possible a post-Kath song shows up, but the 80s Peter Cetera ballads are off the table.

Chicago was one of the most successful bands of the 70s, and not just because they had hit singles. They came out of the jazz/rock movement of the late 60s but outlasted and outperformed all their contemporaries from that scene. Beyond their radio hits, they were quite an experimental band, blending jazz, rock and pop in unique ways, creating multi-movement suites and sometimes getting quite philosophical and political in their lyrics. This gave them a broad fanbase well beyond the AM radio crowd. While Kath was alive, the quality of their material was quite high. Of the nine studio albums that Kath played on, four of which were doubles, only one is less than good, and several, including three of the doubles, are great.

Still, despite their artistic and commercial achievements, Jann Wenner and his echo chamber never cared for them, so they aren’t usually categorized in the “legendary” tier where they belong (their post-Kath material doesn’t help in this regard either). And while other critic-hated bands from the 70s get a lot of love on this board, Chicago usually doesn’t; they were wildly underrepresented in the US countdown (and not at all in the worldwide one, where some of their albums were eligible) — this was my fault as much as anyone’s because I didn’t pick them either. Perhaps the best evidence of just how incredible a band they were in their early years is their Tanglewood performance from 1970, which is available in its entirety, with excellent sound and video quality, on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_oAoSZ2y1cw&pp=ygUYY2hpY2FnbyB0YW5nbGV3b29kIDE5NzAg

Hopefully you all will come to appreciate that the band had three excellent writers (Kath, Robert Lamm and James Pankow), three fine singers (Kath, Lamm and Cetera), a number of album tracks that are well worth hearing, and one of the best guitar players of his generation in Kath, to whom I will be devoting a lot of verbiage.

50 songs a day is a lot, especially if people are (hopefully) doing writeups.

Any thoughts about splitting songs across two days?
I think Krista just said we had 44 and 45. There's a good chance that I will miss a day every now and then.

I took a job Feb 1, and really can't post much at all until I get home after work.

So most posts will go up around 6-7pm MT. It's quite possible that every now and then I decide to go out for an evening and won't post that evening.

. Maybe on the weekends I'll post around noonish.

My son is in this one, zazale. He will be creating the spotify links. He's going to help me with the spreadsheet and our goal is to make every day a quick cut and paste.

I will say I was hoping for 1-2 hip hop artists, and I am surprised there wasn't one or two more metal acts.

I am glad I pivoted off my female pop artists idea, and it's good to see T.Swift and Beyonce on here. I was thinking about Swift or Madonna for a bit.
My #2 choice (really a 1b) was Beastie Boys. Maybe if there is a second round of this, I’ll go with them.

My comment was more from the perspective of the listeners

Playlist sequence I’m looking forward to:

Rush - 2112
Taylor Swift - Shake it Off
Genesis - Supper’s Ready
Beyoncé - Single Ladies
Phish - pretty much anything

I understand, but not seeing how it will be much different than the last few. I think my days off will help.

You could always split us into two groups (American League vs National League or Eastern Conference vs Western Conference) and split up the releases.

Day 1 - East #31
Day 2 - West #31
Etc

Not sure if that makes things more manageable or doubles your work, though.

Oops, didn’t read that Eephus basically said the same thing.

I know your and my taste only overlaps occasionally, but I managed to score 3 Chicago LPs from the period you are talking about for $1 each so should know a lot of them. Really enjoyed the LPs too.
I also dont mind some of the post Cetera Chicago stuff I heard...the big hits anyway.

Should be a good listen

Let's see how it plays out....

I chose June 6th start for two main reasons. 1) I'm going to be gone 6/3 -6/5 to SLC to see Duran Duran and The Cure, with my other son, and maybe party with the Marco man.. 2) I wanted to give myself enough time to massage the lists that come into into a presentable format and not stress out about it. (cuz I never wanna do that ever again LOL)

If half the people only list 25, we'd go the first week with only 25 songs per day.
