Nice timing, I was just going to shout out @Mt. Man I listened to Rainier Fog twice today. Safe to say I thought it was good. Thanks for taking me back with Alice in Chains, and introducing that later album. Alice in Chains was my 2nd favorite of the Seattle bands after Soundgarden. They just had that darker, metal edge to them that being a metal fan gave me something more to click with. I just never gave them a listen after Layne died. I am very impressed with how seemless the sound is on Rainier Fog with their 90s material, and how seemless the new lead singer sounds. You got the highlights from the album for sure, but I also did really like the title track, So Far Under, and Never Fade. Great job with the playlist! It's been way too long since I heard Got Met Wrong, there was plenty of Jar of Flies goodness, and we even got entries from Last Action Hero!!!

I will share a cover with you in Part 2 from that band. As I was researching, I saw a cover of one of your songs you took that I thought sounded decent. Another AIC cover I like that I drafted for a GP category is Opeth's version of Would? HERE is link if you are interested in that.

Now it’s time for Last Songs Out. One each per Album and EP. That includes the Music Bank compilation, but no other greatest hits or anything. Also nothing from Unplugged, as the only song that was eligible (by my own rules) was selected. In order from earliest to latest release:

Bleed The Freak (off Facelift) Not that far above “We Die Young” and “Sunshine”, but there’s only one more here.

Dirt (off, well, Dirt) Dirt was #32, and probably could’ve made it, but got squeezed out.

Whale & Wasp (off Jar of Flies) Well, there’s only two songs that aren’t already on the lists. Let’s go with the instrumental for a different flavor.

Shame In You (off Alice In Chains/Tripod) Close call between this and “Sludge Factory”, which were both tough cuts. I’ll go for the more obscure song though.

Whatcha Gonna Do (Demo version off Music Bank) Cowbell! Not a typical style, but can’t fault them for the energy shown!

A Looking In View (off Black Gives Way to Blue) Yes, over “Check My Brain”, which might be controversial.

Hollow (off The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here) It seemed like either Choke or Hollow was going to make this list. Obviously I could’ve put both in, but when ranking it always fell that one was in and the other out.

So Far Under (off Rainier Fog) - This album probably deserves a couple dozen more listens to (begin to) catch up with the rest, but this one definitely vied for a spot.

I struggled with where to put this song. In hindsight, it would’ve made a decent intro at 31 like some others did. Instead it’s here. Maybe call it #31B? Especially since I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up throwing it onto the playlist eventually.

The thing is… I really prefer the Unplugged version. The album version has Cantrell doing lead vocals while Ann Wilson (who you MIGHT know from Heart >.>) provides back up. While Ann does an excellent job, Cantrell hits me as somewhat toned-down. It's easy to point to the addition of Layne and harmonizing that the live version provides as the difference. Plus perhaps bias. Hard to say.

Glad you enjoyed! Part of this exercise was to 'force' me to listen to that album some more, as most songs were completely unfamiliar to me. Perhaps really to give the Duvall era more of a fair shake in general. I rather like "Deaf Ears Blind Eyes" too, though that's more Top 50 range. BGWTB has a lot of good songs I didn't mention as well. TDPDH has a couple too, though I think it has some of the weakest offerings of the three, so yeah. The point is that if I've inspired folks to listen, then I've done my job. As it were.

I am all for Faye Wong even not knowing Mandarin — fan of the Wong Kar Wai movies that she was in. (But I just did 31 songs in Portuguese, so language clearly no music barrier for me.)

IMO only do that if you actually love those songs. Also, everyone is free to skip right over Christmas music in any list.

Me too, but even that threshold is all over the place for this group. I think all of us are pretty conscious of bring some depth even to artists that are more known. AC/DC is a perfect example for me, or Rush.

And some artists require multiple visits. Dolly Parton's catalogue is just scary.

I am all for Faye Wong even not knowing Mandarin — fan of the Wong Kar Wai movies that she was in. (But I just did 31 songs in Portuguese, so language clearly no music barrier for me.)

A lot of Fayes stuff is in English.
Pretty sure at least two of her albums
Several collaborations or covers of Cocteau Twins songs.
But she sounds even sweeter in Mandarin.

Yeah I tried to use hits loosely. My guess is most people aren’t that familiar with the artist in general. He’s definitely never had a song on mainstream radio or anything. Just some songs are very typical and some are piano pieces or meditative electronic.

I considered The Kinks' Father Christmas, but then left it out. It may have been worthy of a spot. I then completely forgot about it when I built my list out to 100 for the extended playlist. I should probably add it in there. It is definitely deserving of top 100 recognition.

For V2.0 of this I am pretty sure I know who I will highlight and am 100% sure nobody else will select them. However, I would prefer a bit of a break so I can check out some of the playlists before spending time on my artist. Of course, I'm just one person so whatever y'all decide.
