MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (1 Viewer)

Oh, sorry. They're from Connecticut.

eta* It's rare for an indie band from CT to be kind of nationally known.
Oh, that is what I thought at first, but then I thought no way theres a band from Connecticut. Actually I assumed they were a Texas or Cali band for some reason.

Well, that headache lasted into the afternoon.  We went to the library for story time this morning and that was hell on earth.  Damn were those kids noisy.  I am guessing everybody thought I as a lumberjack as I sweated gin out of my pores and smelled like a pine tree. ;)

You should have told them to shut up. It's a ### #### library.

What does that bolded blue sentence mean?  :oldunsure:

Marshall Tucker Band is from South Carolina, and they have played in NC since my youth, and have always been a staple on the radio. I've seen them many a times through the years. I even saw them play in a saloon in Florida when I lived there in the early 90s. They actually played in Raleigh about 3 weeks ago. Several of the original band members are deceased now, but the lead singer is still around. He can't carry a note as long as he once did, but his stories he tells have gotten longer.  :D  I saw them a couple years ago at Merlefest, and he was a chatter box. Anyway, I love the flute and piano solos in the song, and it's just a great toe tappin' tune that lightens up my mood whenever I hear it. I think you might be starting to get in touch with your inner country/americana/bluegrass self.
Just that I am nervous/scared that it's going to be all twang.  Doesn't your butthole pucker up when you're nervous?

Listened to @KarmaPolice list this morning.

I had fun revisiting some of the old school punk stuff, particularly the Buzzcocks, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Sonic Youth. Brought me back to my early college days hanging out with some guys that were big into the punk scene.

You had a tough job transitioning from punk to blues/r&b and back but it actually flowed nicely. Who else could bridge songs between Muddy Waters and the White Stripes better than Chuck Berry. That was a fun sequence and testament to his huge influence on rock.

The Devo/Cars/Hold Steady/Arctic Monkeys finish was fun and flowed well too.

Nice work KP, fun listen.
Thanks for the listen and review - glad you liked it.

Apple juice would taste like dog ####.

Just with the natural taste of the gin, I couldn't imagine much besides lemon or lime tasting decent with it.  That's all I have tried with it so far anyway.
I didn't mean any juice, just that there isn't a specific juice people use. When I was in HS and had no clue how to drink and wanted to be cool like Snoop, we mixed gin with OJ or Grapefruit

Fair enough, but that's disappointing.  I thought there was some cool thing I was missing out on, not that it was literally just gin and random juice.  I guess my old ### was sippin' on gin and juice then.

Wish I had a cooler answer like papaya but mid 90s young males from Compton hadn't discovered mixology and craft cocktails yet imo

I wanted to listen to the @Northern Voice list next since it was all newer music. When I listen to music for myself (not to the kids' pop/hip-hop stuff), I tend to stick to what I know and don't really branch out much. I know a few songs from some of the bands on the list - not many though and nothing that was on this playlist.

I really liked almost everything on the list and will definitely be looking more into a few of these bands.

My favorites;

- Spoon, Can I Sit Next to You - I've heard a few things from them but need to check them out more

- The World is a Beautiful Place, I Can Be Afraid of Anything - wow, this was awesome. Very reminiscent of some of the older Prog stuff I like with its build up and tempo changes, just in a newer Emo -ish style.

- Phantogram, You Don't Get Me High Anymore - really liked this one

- EL VY, No Time to Crank the Sun - never heard of them but I liked this

- Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Trying So Hard Not to Know - singer sounds like an old school Eric Clapton to me

- Drenge, We Can Do What We Want - fun song, got the head nod going listening to this one

A lot of new stuff for me that I really liked. Good stuff NV.

@Northern Voice

Just got done with your mix. Nice mix, very varied. Enjoyed it. Never heard of Drenge before this draft. Dug that song. Also loved The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid To Die song. Probably my favorite track in the mix. I think they signed with Epitaph, maybe. You know Spoon is one of my favorites, and both of those songs are worthy of making a mix over the past three years.

Top fives are hard to do, because I usually like to do top fives that I don't know, and these are kind of limited in what I don't know so I'll just say that I loved the Modest Mouse song, too, as well as the Rough Going (I Won't Let Up)

Phantogram was a cool choice, too, and a good Youtube video.

Anyway, really good work.

listened to @Bonzai (finally figured this out-lol) after lunch. Looking over the list it was about 50/50 of stuff I knew and never heard of. This mix is right in my wheelhouse and I thought it was great and flowed well even on shuffle.

of the stuff i never heard the 3rd bardo and foxygen were my favs. Not a big fan of dylan but those tracks fit perfect here.

Surprisingly the beach boys and kinks had the weakest songs of this set.

great job-my fav so far!
Thanks, man!  Surprised by all the love for The Third Bardo. Sucks their output is so small.

Still waiting for someone to name a good band/musician from CT
You guys are really sleeping on the new and improved JM.  Dead and Company will be at Fenway again for two nights and I'll be at both.  Hope some of you guys check him out.

@El Floppo

Top 3 songs that I wasn't too familiar with

The Wedding Present- It's What You Want That Matters the Most

Of Montreal- The Past is a Grotesque Animal

Japanther- Um Like Your Smile is Totally Ruling Me

Thoughts

Came full throttle out of the gate. Loved it. Got a little off track when it hit the Rotary, Poulenc, Death Grips section but recovered well.  I also think I discovered more awesome new songs from this list than other. Thanks man. Some real cool music here. Picking the best new 3 songs was about impossible. I never realized I might like Of Montreal. LCD Soundsystem is better than Radiohead. The Pavement, Funkadelic, Gil Scott back to back to back jacks deserve congrats.

Best 1-2 punch

22 consecutive minutes of YLT and OM. Sick.

Top 3 songs that I wasn't too familiar with

The Tragically Hip- In a World Possessed by the Human Mind

Phantogram- You Don't Get Me High Anymore

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die  - I Can Be Afraid of Anything

Thoughts

We could totally chill. Every song except 2 are right up my alley. I mean, this sounds just like all the annual playlists I make of new music. Awesome playlist that I could listen to all day. The big misses were the 2 Spoon songs. I know I am in the minority here, but I except for 1 or 2 songs, I just can't stand Spoon.

Best 1-2 punch

Man, this is tough since I like almost every song a lot but I'm going to go with the closing songs for Maggie and Pete.

Listened to @Bonzai's mix (I decided to go through them alphabetically) but after a crappy work day, no brain power left to finish up the notes.  Will post that summary over the weekend along with listening to a few other mixes.
