MOP's rants about everything! (1 Viewer)

What do you want to hear?
That you're self aware enough to know that you teaching 8th and 9th graders is a terrible idea - for everybody involved.

From the little I know about you, you seem like you'd be more suited to a craftsman type vocation - like auto mechanic, electrician, that kind of thing. Maybe own your own repair shop or electrician service business someday. Something where your main value generation skill isn't nearly entirely people relations dependent. I know you've regaled us with stories of your sales prowess etc., but the bulk of your work here doesn't really impart a sense of confidence in you pulling off relating to teenagers in a scholastic environment while backed with zero training or experience in said teaching role. And then of course there's the whole knowledge transfer aspect of teaching.

I love my boss, never breaks my balls, always backs me up, & blindly signs off on my expense reports which are normally gigantic... Now I'm gonna have an unknown, this is terrible news :(

Our SVP is bringing in an old colleague of his who I know little about to take the role... Yesterday I was a pig in #### at my job, now I've got this huge cloud hanging over me.

Are you advising a preemptive strike?

This MOP teaching is schtick - right? Please?
What do you want to hear? I interviewed a week ago, informal get together with one of the schools better teachers, she forwarded a resume on to the ### Principal who called me in today…I gotta say she was in her early to mid 30s, there was definite eye contact there, I could tell she was listening to me put it that way. I got a phone call a few hours later to come back tomorrow.

I thought maybe they were just doing this to fill an interview quota since I'm the minority candidate here but it seems like they want to get serious about it.
I'm white, I'm never the majority in Miami.

MOP been meaning to ask you. Are you the one who got me banned in the Chris Henry thread over my organ donation comment?

You don't know me very well, not good with my hands outside of the bedroom.

You don't me very well, not very good with my hands outside of the bedroom.
I more meant your personality. You can learn those trades.

Hey Sean, you DO know that as a teacher, you take a lot of work home with you. Grading papers, tests, lesson plans, etc. It's not so simple as 9:00-3:00, 6 hours a day as you seem to think. Just FYI.
He has no idea what he's getting into. None.
Exactly
:tebow:

"When am I gonna make it back to Haiti"

:lmao:
exactly
10% of the men in that scene are actually gay.

This kind of humor is going to go over great in the classroom. Keep honing those skills here so you have them perfected.

So I got the bad news tonight from my teacher friends who recommended me to begin with. I'm not sure they thought I was serious or I would get this far in the interview process. Don't get me wrong, they're thrilled and they probably are the best "couple" that my wife and I go out to dinner and movies with.

But they did say the 1st year is gonna be hell because I won't have things like a standardized test for different sections of the book already made from the year before. They don't have a planning hour where they teach, at least one of them doesn't so they have to take work home. For example, Monday she graded papers and did lesson plans from 5-9PM

So I know there's gonna be some challenges but I want to get somewhere and you can't make any progress if you don't take a few steps. I'm sure there will be some trying days, I'm no dummy. And i bet there are gonna be some times I want to pull my hair out or little Juan's but there will also be some rewarding times. The goal is not to teach 8th grade for the next 30 years, it's step 1 on a journey. I'm sick of corporate America, it sucks.

People who actually meet me say I'm quite charming. Most sociopaths are though.

Thanks Mr Freeze, I kinda knew that.

so what is the process to create a lesson plan? Do you have strict guidelines that you have to follow or do you have some degree of flexibility in how you will design your plan?

Good word which will be used in my presentation of myself tomorrow. Stern in the classroom but flexible to the school staff.

We do have a good deal of paperwork but the Ast Principal said she would personally help me get up and running.

Person in charge of Social Studies for the county forwarded me the curriculum and where we are at right now. I gotta say my World History knowledge pales to my US History knowledge. I will have to do a lot of reading at first just to feel confident for the class. They are working on the Industrial Revolution as it pertains to England, US, Japan right now. Then it's Age of Revolutions, Global Imperialism, Nationalism, WWI/WWII

Nah, man.. that's just a ruse teachers tell prospective teachers to keep them out of the profession. It's 6 hour days and summers off. Don't let them dissuade you.

So Tanner, Shick!, Pickles and now MOP are all teachers?

That is quite an all-star team there, makes you want to have more kids just so these guys can learn them right.

Dude. You need to know nothing about the subject right now.You have 2 things you need to learn ASAP, classroom management and teaching styles/strategies. You need to know everything you can on these two subjects before what you actually know about history will even begin to matter.

Jr High is the hell hole where hormones, immaturity and insecurity collide.

I think the 1st teacher I met from the school mentioned this term 25 times in an hour.

MOP, I've always been a fan despite your warts. You teaching public middle school is a horrible fit. Do not do this. There is a better chance that you will end up in jail than this endeavor being a success.

I think the asst principal liked me and that's why I am getting the 2nd interview today. She eyefracked me 3x on the interview yesterday. I didn't know principals/assistants could be in their late 20s/early 30s. She was a solid 7/8 for most in here. I would love to tell you more about her body but I tried to maintain focus around the eyes and she works out obviously.

I'm more worried about the teacher's lounge than I am the 25 students in class.

That will change.
