If David Carr struggles early, Texans coach Gary Kubiak could turn to backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels. Rosenfels outperformed Carr in training camp and in the preseason.

-- Denver Post

Yeah that's happening. lol

Roselfels would be an upgrade on the OL.
:goodposting: I feel bad for Carr. While Kubiak figures to help him here, the fact is that there's no QB who's line has been neglected for longer than Carr's. It's a miracle he can still walk.

 You like the talent they've put in front of him on the o-line?
Not necessarily. Mostly, I'm just interested in how long that's going to be an excuse for Carr.

Well, seeing as how lack of support from the running game was Dan Marino's excuse for his entire career, I'd say we could keep this going for quite some time.

It can be used an excuse until the excuse is taken away. So far, that hasn't happened.I thought Carr looked pretty good against Philly.

      It was Marino's excuse for not getting a super bowl ring not for not being a great QB. Marino is in the HOF while Carr will be a backup next year if not sooner.Marino >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CarrThat's probably understating quite a bit.

Good luck getting Colin to ever admit when Carr does look good. Seems like most Houston fans have a major grudge against the guy.

We're just talking about shelf life for running excuses here. I'm glad to note, however, that you recognize that this is a team sport and that a QB needs some help around him to succeed, regardless of his skill level.

Carr was good in the first half, when he had time to throw. He also ran for a few first downs.

He was not good in the second half, when his O-Line was dominated by the Iggles D.

I was surprised at Carr yesterday, he played much better than I expected and looked a lot better than he did in preseason. He still has a way to go though.

The blocking all around was pretty terrible, Morency & Putz both missed blocks resulting in sacks and the O'line gave up a few of their own. If Carr plays as poorly as he did last season he WILL get benched, but I saw yesterday as a step forward for him. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Not much longer. He will migrate towards, 'I have no running game to help my vast QB skills'. He's a master at determining the weak link (himself). So much so that he is always able to blame the 2ND WEAKEST LINK.

This one will always stick out in my mind. Last year listening to the announcer at the snap of the ball: Carr.......Carr........Carr....what is this guy doing? (takes off running). The time was 3+ seconds. Then they showed the receivers running wide open. The guy is a scared sissyboy who at best could be a career backup. He has no business starting at QB for any team. Fact is there no chance that Carr takes this team anywhere...EVER.

I don't often say this because we are all here trying to objectively evaluate people who are far more talented and successful doing what they're doing than we'll ever be (or ever were) but this truly smacks of a fat tub of lard in front of a keyboard and monitor all-too-easily dismissing the level of violence that exists at the NFL level. I agree that Carr has become gun shy. 'Skins fans saw that in Patrick Ramsey too after he was subjected to two years of Spurrier's (non-)blocking schemes. Calling the dude a "scared sissyboy" is ridiculous.

What most of us saw yesterday was a guy who looked far more comfortable at QB than he has in a long time, even though his line remains poor and he was facing a very talented and aggressive defensive front. It may not be saying much but I pick him to improve this year, maybe even drastically.

Maybe you'll end up being right about him being no better than a backup. I have yet to see you or anyone else, however, even attempt to make the argument that he's had even a decent o-line to operate behind.

Get off the O-line crapola. There is only 1 person to blame in Houston. Has been that way for how many years now? What I said. Scared sissyboy. At first he just sucked. Now he is a sissy and sucks. He needs to just quit because he is no good..AT ALL!

Ok, you convinced me.

No problem. The Texans management won't be far behind ya. They wasted big $ on this guy so they no doubt are going to punish him for making them look bad.

Have another sack carr, would you like another?

1. I am not a Texans fan.

2. I gave David Carr a very fair chance for the first couple of years he was in the league. I am not "hating" on him out of habit, but out of what I see. He looked improved yesterday, yes. And his O-line has never been stellar and his run game has been inconsistent. But I see fundamental problems with how David Carr plays QB that make me wonder if he'll ever be more than a guy who "plays just well enough to lose the game." He had some sequences yesterday that were signs of improved play, but then he'd follow them by tripping on the turf or missing a wide-open receiver. There comes a point where you have to say "this guy simply is not that special" and it appears that many folks are loathe to admit that, instead choosing to site an O-line problem or run game problem or play calling problem or lack of receivers, etc.

Kubiak went out of his way to say Rosenfels "could be a starter in this league" in the preseason. I think neither he nor ownership wants to bench Carr, but it's nowhere near as far fetched as Big Red would have us believed.

Frankly I think it's no more absurd to talk about this than to discuss Jay Cutler over Plummer or Tony Romo over Bledsoe; which both have life and aren't getting slammed as much.
