Naked and Afraid on Discovery Channel (2 Viewers)

It's interesting that at least two women have been crippled by menstrual cramps while out there. Never occurred to me at first that they can't have birth control out there.
birth control? i'm not sure you know how girls work.

the PSR ratings are a joke. sunburn guy and i'm afraid of everything goggles guy should have both gone down.

Birth control pills reduce the intensity of periods and menstrual cramps. Some reduce the frequency of periods. So tell me more about how women work.

I do agree with you on the PSR ratings though. I kind of assumed they were some kind of official thing until last night.
From what I understand, they all do. A girl on birth control can power through without a period by not taking the sugar pills during the week they would ordinarily have a period. Just plow through with a new set of the birth control pills and she won't have a period that month.

Also, I would guess that each person gets to list two "survival" items to bring and the order of preference since everyone would list machete first. I also assume "lighter" or "box of matches" is not allowed.
The dude in episode one and the chick in episode three brought lighters.

Best looking women so far was on the Panama ep last night.
That guy was such a #####. In fact, every guy on every show has been inferior to the woman partner.

I'm wondering if Lifetime produces this show.
Great show. Love all the survival shows.

Oh I definitely agree with the above. (except for maybe the last episode however she did outlast Puma!) The females have been more level headed, calmer, and seemed to be more survival experienced while most of the guys have acted like the aholes and whiners but then showed much respect to the females by the end of the show. Final episode next week.

Female Hotness Rankings:

4 (Panama)

3 (Maldivian island)

1 (Costa Rican jungle)

2 (Africa)

5 (Borneo)

One of my new favorite shows. I wouldn't last a day, but do get frustrated with some of the choices they make. Knowing they need food, fire, protection (feet, sunburn, etc)... you'd think they would be prepared to make those things a priority instead of floundering for days on end. And goggles? Come on!
Yeah I couldn't last long either and these people are tough and certainly well rained survivalists. But I am surprised too that fire has been so hard for most groups. No fire til day 4 or day 6?? I know it's not that easy but isn't that survival 101 stuff for them?? Les Stroud and Bear seem to get fire pretty quick like in day 1 or 2 with some of those same techniques.

Fire should not be that difficult, I would train like every single day in all types of way to make fire.

The producers give each of them a camera for their own personal use. If it were me I would be breaking the lens out of my camera to make fire. Seems it would be a heck of a lot easier than rubbing two sticks together.

I would imagine that future episodes will be much "easier" for the contestants having seen what some of these folks went through. They all seem intent on using the first day to travel to their ultimate location. But after that I think contestants would be much more diligent in getting to work making fire and getting water instead of fumbling around for two or three days.

I know nobody wants on my suspicious-fire bandwagon, but I still think the second fire at Borneo is SUSPECT.
I agree. Bigfoot had no noticeable survival skills other than stacking branches on the shelter. Noway she made that fire herself.
She made the first fire. Puma couldn't do it.
I thought the fire was a team effort, but can't really recall. Either way, took her three days to make that first fire. Then somehow, after torrential rains and being up all night and into the next morning with her partner and the medical staff, she's sitting there with a fire by the next afternoon and we never saw her making any efforts to build it. I think she wanted to leave, but the producers said "listen, we'll leave you with a fire if you stay."

Puma helped IIRC
Puma and her built the bow drill, but Puma couldn't get it going. He tried exclusively the first 2 days. She took over on d3 and got it going that same day.

Ruling: Fire was not suspicious.

But why wouldn't they show it? There was like 20 minutes left in the show and it's not like anything else happened.

Maybe she got it restarted with ease and they were shaping the story for her eventually quitting at that point in the program. A quickly lit fire that restored some hope didn't gel with the storyline at that point.

How in the hell could you let a fire that took you three days to light burned down to the point where there weren't even any embers? That was a major screw up on both of them.

What makes the fire even more suspicious is the fact that footage of her making it would have been great to watch, but instead we only see her sitting around getting depressed.

Also I know I am way in the minority but Julie might be the best girl partner to have in that environment.

She got the first fire started after Puma could not do it for two days, ZERO of the other women have done that.

Plus, you wouldn't constantly want to #### her...

Who wouldn't?

Maybe it was just the combination of where exactly they put them and the weather that happened to hit... but it seemed like Louisiana was the toughest environment yet. Whodathunk it.

Actually, would be interesting to hear an expert's rating of how difficult each environment is.

How the hell does this show deal with the potential that one of their "contestants" might get eaten by a gator? Do the cameramen have rifles to shoot one should they get too close?

I actually thought this was the best episode yet. The chick was reasonably good looking. Other than being a whiner, the guy probably most capable we've seen so far. And yeah, the conditions looked like hell. I can't even imagine strolling through ankle to waste deep swamp nekkid in 50 degree temperatures...not to mention all the snakes and alligators. If one of them hadn't brought a fire starter, no chance they last.

Was thinking the same thing. I thought they had to swim across that alligator infested water at the end to be rescued. That seemed overly dangerous even for this show.

Also, how the #### did they know where they were going?

If we are going the suspicious route, what are the chances that the one specific area of dry land that they were told to go (which we found out wasn't the only chunk of dry land) would have a decent pot just sitting next to a tree?? This isn't some remote island where you get garbage that washes up on shore.

Didn't they lose the pot in the storm? Otherwise, why were they dehydrated?

Louisiana had to be the worst location yet.

They were fishing for leeches (to use for bait) with their feet.

Dude was eating that giant rats leg like it was a chicken drumstick.

My PSR is actually pretty good if the rating is based on surviving. Probably a 10, because I'd get full credit for having the good sense to say, "Uh, yeh...I quit...get me the #### out of here."

That was the most capable dude by far. The chick was pretty useless though, she was just moral support really. She was hot though.

Yeah, she basically just kept him in the game mentally. And she didn't ##### and moan and make his job more difficult. Great episode. Can't believe they made it through to 21 days.

The point of the PSR is to determine whether you'd survive when the option to ##### out isn't available.

Yeah, that guy was very capable. Chasing after snakes right away and killing them? Yeah, that guy knew what he was doing. Was any info given as to how far their original camp was from the one they went to later? The original map said there was no dry land for miles around. With that information I can't imagine the producers would have let them wander off in some random direction without knowing they would find land at some point. I realize the point of the show is for them to survive, but a week of them sitting on a platform doing nothing does not make good TV.

Maybe the patch of land they were on at first wasn't the one they were supposed to be on in the first place. How they find their way around in that environment I have no idea, all looks the same for miles an miles.

Solid episode, I will watch season two. I hope they don't #### with the format etc. too much and ruin it.

This season only had 5 episodes, right? Should definitely have more for next year. There are some really interesting places they could send the people. The naked thing discounts most cold weather environments but there are lots of deserts and plains areas and jungles that would be interesting.

I only have two requests for next season: less dramatic music and less dramatic narrator. Kind of undercuts the spectacle of man vs. nature for me when they use that music from Lost and then the narrator tells us in harried tones that alligators are crazy man eaters.

Agreed on Louisiana looking like the worst yet. For the most part, there was no source of food and very little to use for shelter. Staying alive on snakes just sucks ###. Can't imagine the dark, damp environment for days on end...especially with all those SNAKES!

I shivered just watching it on TV. I would have had a panic attack within an hour of nightfall on Day 1.

He said he was keeping the sun to his right in order to ensure they were going in the right direction. Agree about it being fishy that they managed to find that island when it was the only one around for miles. Unlike most of you Nancies, I could probably last at least a week out there and Id estimate my PSR to be about 7.5. :gang2:
