I'm curious why PSU should get to move forward. The cover-ups and inaction were done to protect the football program. Seems removing the football program would solve this issue entirely.

When these men first learned of the ugliness, they could have went to the authorities immediately. They could have covered their own asses. They instead embarked upon a cover up that put themselves in danger. So sure, future instances of the cover up were also to save themselves, but the first offenses that got the ball rolling were entirely about protecting the program.
