Normally I would say Cruz, but with the depth of this draft I would rather have Roddy and the pick
I wouldn't - give me a borderline elite player like Cruz over an aging Roddy and an unknown rookie 1.09 pick any day.
I don't think you lose anything (or much) with White over the next couple years. And I don't expect Cruz to put up elite production into his 30s. A spin at the wheel, could be someone like Benjamin or Mason who could be elite if its a cherry. You're betting Cruz's 29+ production on a chance at a B+ rookie pick. IMO worth a shot. The pick will only increase in value over the next 2 mo.
I know Mason won't be there at 1.09. Benjamin potentially could be there, but I doubt it as well. I do think Roddy has decent WR2 numbers for another year or two, but Cruz is only 27 and the Giants' best offensive weapon; I think he'll be a great PPR asset for a number of years to come.
The 1.09 pick value could increase over the next two months...but free agency can affect player values during that time as well.
I am the one who traded Cruz away for Roddy and the 1.09. I have Calvin and Crabs, so I almost declined it as I was good with what I had with those three wr's.
Then I looked to package something else together to increase the 1.09 value. Accepted above deal to get me a stop-gap at 3rd wr with Roddy and then flipped the 1.09, Edelman, Q Patton and my 2015 3rd for this years 2.03 and his 2015 1st. Very easily top 3 pick next year, quite possibly the #1 pick. The need for two firsts this year and value of Edelman (if stays in NE) was worth the gamble for this owner.
So, I almost rejected the Cruz deal as soon as it came through, but will gladly trade Roddy for Cruz for two more years to swap out 1.09 for next years potential #1. If the other deal didn't go through I would not have done the Cruz/White deal.
