Just another year, another stab at madness. Ive always done ok never lasted until in December. Previously i had 26 on rosters, going with higher end talent this year as i feel its needed.

This team is not reasonably deep enough to survive injuries but it could be a heck of a lot of fun to watch (like a firework)

After at least 30 changes I'm done and I still don't like my RB or WR. Started out with 25+ total players and slowly keep leaning towards fewer players, more studs. Last year I had a bunch of low priced players that didn't pan out and I didn't have a backup QB (McNabb)... so that has something to do with my strategy change this year. Wow 18! I thought my 22 was lean and bold. You have massive talent in the WR/TE department, good pair of QBs. Your RBs hinge upon Ridley keeping the job.

^it's funny you say that, cuz as a longtime lurker at these forums you're one of the people I historically find myself agreeing with often :hophead: But anyways, I've gone and changed my entry AGAIN lol. Gave thought to potential RB issues and used the profit from the QB switch on David Wilson rather than Titus Young. After doing that, I had another dollar so I upgraded from NE to the SF defense.

I have Titus Young too :) I kept putting Wilson on, but then I kept deciding that rather than Wilson and one of my fliers, Hillis was a better choice. Or Kevin Smith. Or Ingram. It changed a lot.

matt ryanlockerricemccoymendyroysterbensoncalvinandre johnsonmarshallbrittroyalmike thomasgatesmercedes lewisakershenrygouldphillybufseamy strategy was to try and win 1st place. super high on locker, royster and lewis and thomas+benson were great cheap depth. because of those guys, i put my extra cash into k and d rather than excess depth. based on matchups, my team output with ryan and gates was very similar as rodgers and graham, so i went with the former. andre has a very nice schedule down the stretch so i took him over julio. i ignored the first few weeks and tried to raise my floor+maximize my late season output. that led me to take britt and mendy.
now i just pray for good health

You big test will come week 7....but I'm thinking that will be a lower cut line with so many teams on byes. I have two huge tests....week 6 and 8....borderline stupid and I will probably be bounced one of those two weeks.

Last changes were:1. Luck and Adrian Peterson to Flacco, Reggie Bush and D upgrade from Atlanta to Houston.2. David Wilson and Earl Bennett out for Mendenhall, Royster, Broyles and grab a 3rd D. Who were your late changes?

Dwyer, Benson, Royster look to be on a TON of rosters. Flacco too, and Tannehill.
 is there an app to see how many rosters have these guys? Why would someone not roster Benson? At $3 he's easily the value pick of this thing (at least before the season starts)

Decided to go a completely different direction this year with a small roster of 19. I've always been a max size roster guy, but the pricing of studs made them more attractive this year. I didn't like the way my team looked at 30, and I kept whittling it down until it ended up here. This is clearly a risky strategy with no backup QB, but I hope Brees's early bye will help there.

RB's: Instead of the "big 3" I had Foster and Rice as a tier to themselves. I played around with different combinations of one or the other with others like McFadden since it seemed crazy to have both with a week 8 bye. But then I thought "why not?" since I was using a high risk strategy anyway, and I only had one other player (CIN Defense) with a week 8 bye. Hopefully, Mendenhall will be productive by Week 8, and I'm sure Benson and Royster will be on a high percentage of teams.

WR's: Would have liked to get a cheap 7th WR here, but I think the cheap GB guys will be productive and I like Roberts as a $3 player. Lots of cheap players with week 10 byes.

TE's: 2 studs here.

K and D: I was disappointed that there weren't any $2 defenses. Using the 3 $2 defenses last year worked great, with lots of random big games from bad defenses. I decided to go the same route this year with 3 defenses with different byes.

I hope when people post their rosters, they give reasoning behind their selections. I enjoy reading those more than just looking at who people picked.
:goodposting: My annual plea: Please, people, don't just throw up a list of your players. After 30 or 40 of those, the names just run together. Breaking it down and explaining the thought process behind your picks is a lot more valuable and interesting. My team:Preface: I think the key to the contest is a combination of not just picking the value players, but also making sure the players picked "balance" bye weeks, so when a stud at one position is on bye the other positions can pick up the slack. If that's done properly, a 24 man roster can provice as much flexibility as a 30 man roster, but with better players.QB:Stafford (5) $26Locker (11) $9Thought Stafford was the best-priced of the top tier, plus he has the early bye week. Had Flacco as my backup for most of the time, but swapped for Locker at the last minute to free up $2 (not to mention being able to avoid actually rooting for Flacco againstt the Steelers in Week 13). Locker should be good enough to get me by unless Stafford is out for an extended period, and if that happens, I'm probably toast anyhow.RB:Foster (8) $34Sproles (6) $23Lynch (11) $19Benson (10) $3Royster (10) $3Taiwan Jones (5) $2Splurged on Foster with Sproles and Lynch as (hopefully) steady contributors. Benson and Royster are obvious values and at this point are almost "defensive" picks--everyone else will have them, so if you don't and they do produce as advertised, you're in trouble. Jones is the cheap lottery ticket. Last year I was foolish enough to take McFadden without his handcuff and it killed me, so I figured I'd try it the other way around this year. WR:Julio Jones (7) $23A. Brown (4) $16K. Britt (11) $13T. Young (5) $10J. Blackmon (6) $6S. Smith ( St. L 9) $5H. Douglas (7) $3I like this group's potential, as I think any of the top 6 can provide a big score. Also, with the top 6 guys all having differnet bye weeks, I think my 7 WRs serve as well as teams having 8 or 9 WRs whose byes aren't as balanced. Douglas can provide some bye week coverage and is a semi-handcuff for Julio. Thought about Calvin, but with Stafford, Pettigrew and Young I had my quota of Lions, and I didn't like the overall liineup as much trying to work with Ryan/Calvin instead. As a bonus, all 7 WRs (as are all my top TEs) are active the week of Foster's bye, so I only need 2 RBs to have decent weeks and I can get my flex score here or at TE. Britt may be the key to my season: he is an obvious risk, but if he's healthy and out of jail, he has top 10 potential for WR3 money. I went back and forth with using somebody "safer" like Garcon or Wayne, but finally decided that "safe" doesn't win.TE:V. Davis (9) $17Pettigrew (5) $15Allen (4) $2Would have been nice to have Gronk or Graham, but they were cost-prohibitive. With Davis and Pettigrew costing only $3 more than Graham alone, they seemed like the way to go. One or the other should put up numbers not too far off of the top guys each week and they give me the chance of flex points too. Again, bye weeks are balanced nicely with my important WRs and RBs so that when Davis or Pettigrew aren't active my big guns elsewhere are (and vice versa). Allen is obviously a flier/emergency fill in whose price was right. K:Nugent, Carpenter, Suisham--3 $3 guys with different bye weeks. Does it really matter?D:Jets, Saints, Colts. Had 3 $3 defenses, but had a dollar leftover to upgrade from the Bengals to the Jets. I think kickers and defenses are somewhat underrated in the contest--getting double digit scores from either a D or a K each week is huge, and I can't see going with less than 3 of each to try and get that.

Matt Ryan $19

Ryan Fitzpatrick $11

Ryan Tannehill $4

LeSean McCoy $32

Fred Jackson $21

LeGarrette Blount $6

Jonathan Dwyer $4

Cedric Benson $3

Evan Royster $3

Julio Jones $23

Brandon Marshall $22

Mike Wallace $16

Nate Washington $12

Davone Bess $6

Jonathan Baldwin $4

Josh Gordon $3

Eddie Royal $2

Brandon Pettigrew $15

Jermaine Gresham $13

Kyle Rudolph $11

Randy Bullock $4

Rob Bironas $3

Matt Prater $3

New York Jets $4

Cincinnati Bengals $3

Kansas City Chiefs $3

Holy crap...can't believe I had Bullock on there. I think I set my kickers before his injury, and then never even noticed he was still on my team. Oh well, that is $4 down the tubes already... :(

Other than that, feel OK with this team. Definitely strongest at WR, weakest at RB. Switched between Dwyer and Mendenhall 4-5 times...went with Dwyer, so that obviously means that Mendenhall is going to go for 1000 yards this year.

Aaron Rodgers $31

Blaine Gabbert $6

Darren McFadden $26

Jamaal Charles $24

Marshawn Lynch $19

Alex Green $6

Rashard Mendenhall $4

Jonathan Dwyer $4

Cedric Benson $3

Vincent Jackson $19

Torrey Smith $16

Mike Wallace $16

Pierre Garcon $14

Justin Blackmon $7

Jerome Simpson $7

Jonathan Baldwin $4

Antonio Gates $20

Martellus Bennett $4

Dwayne Allen $2

Rian Lindell $3

Justin Medlock $3

Connor Barth $3

Carolina Panthers $3

Miami Dolphins $3

Washington Redskins $3

Went back and forth on Ryan vs Rodgers many times, but in the end couldn't find a place where the $12 might have as much impact as the QB upgrade so went with A Rod. The last comparison I was making was Ryan + Gresham vs A Rod. But I feel pretty good about TE already, wasn't sure how often Gresham would be a flex, and would have had to undo something else to find the last $1 to buy Gresham so stuck with Rodgers.

Gotta gamble somewhere and this was the position where I took my risks. McFadden, Charles and Lynch were all priced well under their value in a 15/16 game season, but they're also (arguably) less likely to play a full campaign. I wanted Bush too, but he shares a bye week with Charles. I also faded Starks and Redman by pairing Benson + Green for $9 and Mendenhall + Dwyer for $8. Don't get why 50% of folks would snag Benson and not pair Green.

I went with more expensive WRs this year, but kept the same approach that more mid-level guys was better than a couple studs. Debated an 8th WR but with five guys who are #1s for their team am hoping to get by with seven.

Have had great luck at TE the last two years, but spent a bit less this year. Gates is insane value in almost any format this year IMO, so was happy to add him at a decent price. Bennett and Allen are two guys who will be on the field a lot and for $6 they seemed like good fliers. Considered Gresham + Miller instead of Gates but am not sold on Dalton and really think Gates could run wild.

PK/K went with three instead of four this year to beef up other positions.

Bye management has been something I didn't pay enough attention to in the past, so this year I picked a couple WRs I liked less than other guys who were available to spread the bye weeks out. With only seven I wanted to make sure I didn't have two sharing a week, and ended up with 4-5-6-7-8-10-11.

Finally, I think the change in pricing makes somewhat smaller rosters more viable this year. You still need cover for the bad weeks, but you should be able to count on more players to consistently provide startable scores so the need for depth is reduced IMO. Ended up with 25 after being max rostered the last couple years.

Surprised to see 4 teams have my top 4 WRs: JJones, Harvin, Marshall and Dez. 31 teams have my top players at the key positions - Stafford, McFadden, Jones, and Gates. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing.

Thankfully, when I add my 2nd RB (R Bush) my team becomes unique.

Why is Blackmon the 2nd most popular WR? Rookie WR with a bad QB.

Other than him though, no real surprises among the most popular picks.

QB: Stafford, Flacco RB: McFadden, Bush, Mendenhall, Dwyer, Benson, RoysterWR: JJones, Marshall, Harvin, Dez, Amendola, Baldwin, BroylesTE: Gates, Cook, DreessenPK: Gould, Prater, SuishamTD: Steelers, Texans, Seahawks
In response to Blackmon, he's a cheap wr who should get the most targets on a team that most figure to be playing from behind most of the time. Not to mention that Gabbert looks slightly improved and practically force fed Blackmon the ball in the preseason. I definitely can see some 8 catch games this year which even with a 10 ypc makes him well worth the $7.

After years of going with a deep roster, I ended up with a 21-player boom or bust roster:

QB: ($40) Rodgers, Locker - really hoping to ride a great year by Rodgers, biggest risks are a concussion to Rodgers, and a bad start to the season for Locker, costing him his job. I like Locker as a sneaky upside pick though with the run-n-shoot, and running ability, but it won't hurt my feelings if he only scores week 10 for me.

RB: ($78) Rice, McCoy, Hunter, Mendenhall, Benson - again, all eggs in the Rice/McCoy basket. A nice basket, at least until one of the eggs cracks. Hoping for early season support from Benson, and late season support from Mendenhall and Hunter. Nobody has the same bye, weeks 7 and 8 I'll have to manage the Rice/McCoy byes but hopefully Benson and Mendenhall will be playing then - week 7 is probably tougher with Julio Jones also out, so less room for error. Week 8 the only bye I have is Rice.

WR: ($72) J. Jones, Bryant, Britt, Collie, Blackmon, Royal - Jones was my splurge spend, I think Bryant has a big year, banking on the risky health of Britt and Collie - who can be their team's #1 option when playing. Blackmon should provide a decent floor as the #1 option in Jax, and Royal was really just a $2 flyer, who should have a couple of productive weeks. Week 7 is the only week with multiple players on bye (Jones and Royal).

TE: ($37) Hernandez, F. Davis - couldn't really afford Gronk or Graham given the QB and RB choices, so I went with two above average TEs. I usually have three TEs, since it is a little more hit/miss, but I felt good with Hernandez getting a decent number of catches/game. Injury is my biggest risk here

K: ($9) Bironis, Gould, Prater - three $3 kickers. I expect each team to be above average on offense, hopefully creating scoring chances. no duplicate byes

D: ($14) Eagles, Jets, Seahawks - this is the most I have ever spent on D

A key injury will obviously devastate this team, but I like the upside this team brings when everyone is healthy. I have not seen too many Rodgers picks, nor Rice/McCoy combos, so I give it a sluggers chance.

QB: Stafford, Flacco - considered combos of Schaub, Luck and Peyton but I think Stafford continues to climb into the elite 3, just behind Rodgers and Brees this year. Wanted a stud and a solid backup although Stafford/Luck was tempting.

RB: McFadden, Bush, Mendenhall, Dwyer, Benson, Royster - considered Peterson, Sproles, and Lynch at various times, with PPR Bush/Sproles could be nice but figured I'd take the risk with McFadden and hope for the best. Figure he'll either be a top 3 RB or injured.

WR: JJones, Marshall, Harvin, Dez, Amendola, Baldwin, Broyles - Broyles was in and off my team about 30 times. Probably won't matter but I like the kid. I had variations of these 4 for a long time, had Wayne, Collie and Garcon as my #4 before going with 4 studs. Had only 3 studs here for a long time paired with 3 studs at RB, but I figure this provides more safety and bang for the buck.

TE: Gates, Cook, Dreessen - Considered Finley, Hernandez and TEBC with Rudolph, Olsen and Cook. Decided Gates could have a HUGE year. Cook was one of the few players I never moved from the roster.

PK: Gould, Prater, Suisham - random, different by weeks. Not surprised to see Gould and Prater as the most popular kickers.

TD: Steelers, Texans, Seahawks - had Steelers and Seahawks for a long time, but opted for 3 D instead of 8 WRs when I took 4 studs with different byes.

RB is the only position I'm questioning myself on, but I have Peterson and Sproles in my main league, so figured I'd spread the risk a bit.

Eli Manning $21

Matt Schaub $13

Andrew Luck $11

------------------------- I wanted Eli because I suspected he would be under-owned for his price, Schaub may be a good pick.

Doug Martin $21

Michael Turner $18

Peyton Hillis $14

Jacquizz Rodgers $10

LeGarrette Blount $6

Rashard Mendenhall $4

Cedric Benson $3

Evan Royster $3

-------------------------I incorrectly predicted Martin would be under-owned. Blount, and Turner as separators?

Jordy Nelson $20

Dwayne Bowe $17

Jeremy Maclin $17

Nate Washington $12

David Nelson $6

Danny Amendola $6

Jonathan Baldwin $4

-------------------------I really like my WRs, Bowe and Maclin especially. I tried to get Olgletree on there too but opted out.

Fred Davis $14

Greg Olsen $11

Kevin Boss $2

-------------------------Boss may get some opportune TDs for me.

Rob Bironas $3

Robbie Gould $3

Matt Prater $3

-------------------------Kickers, i wanted 3 for sure.

Seattle Seahawks $4

Atlanta Falcons $4

-------------------------Seattle was under-priced and I knew they would be popular, but I took em anyway.

Good luck all!

Had 3 stud WRs and a few backups, then totally re did the team to go quantity at WR. The 0.5 ppr for RB really changes things this year, went with Brady/Rice/mcCoy and built out from there. Almost spent $2 on Dwayne Allen, but upgraded a kicker/defense instead

Every year I write a program to pick players for me, then I sit back and watch random chance unravel hours of work! Anyways here's this year cyborg team:

At least I think that's my team. I've generated so many variations. I decided on 23 players this year since it seemed like a good balance. However it wouldn't be fun if we didn't include the generated alternatives!

Here's what 30 players would look like:

Edit: Apparently the team above isn't what I entered, though I don't have the generated stats for that team. In any case the above is more for fun for those that are interested in optimizing teams based on projections.

Aaron Rodgers $31

Ryan Tannehill $4

All in baby! I may be in trouble week 10, but Rodgers is my only "starter" out that week. Every year I pick mid-level QB's and see the big names putting up monster numbers every week. Not this year.

Darren McFadden $26

DeMarco Murray $24

Chris Wells $13

Jonathan Dwyer $4

Cedric Benson $3

Evan Royster $3

If they stay healthy, 2xDM will be beasts at those prices this year imo. They are both out week 5, but they are my only players out that week Wells for a mid-level backup and 3 low priced guys who are probably owned by a lot of people.

Brandon Marshall $22

Mike Wallace $16

Kenny Britt $13

Greg Little $12

Randall Cobb $9

Justin Blackmon $7

Davone Bess $6

Lestar Jean $3

Marshall is gonna catch a bazillion balls this year. Wallace will play like a top 5 guy, and Britt will be a beast after his suspension. Some good depth too, with Little who should see a lot of balls and Cobb who could explode for some big scores.

Aaron Hernandez $23

Fred Davis $14

Hernandez is the TE to own on the Pats this year, and Davis will surprise with a huge season.

Matt Bryant $4

Rob Bironas $3

New York Jets $4

Kansas City Chiefs $3

Carolina Panthers $3

Meh, K's/D's.

Winnah!

This entry is still alive.

Matthew Stafford $26

Darren McFadden $26

Cedric Benson $3

Julio Jones $23

Dez Bryant $18

Mike Wallace $16

Kenny Britt $13

Austin Collie $9

Justin Blackmon $7

Alshon Jeffery $6

Devery Henderson $4

Greg Olsen $11

Joel Dreessen $4

Dwayne Allen $2

Robbie Gould $3

Greg Zuerlein $3

Cincinnati Bengals $3

Washington Redskins $3

After years of going the big roster route, I decided to change it up this year. Obviously taking a chance on injuries, but figured I couldn't win with injuries even with a big roster. I took a chance with some guys with question marks - Britt, Wallace, Collie, and McFadden - but those were the guys that seemed to have the biggest values. If they stay healthy, it will pay off.

Stafford has to stay healthy. Tannehill will take me nowhere and is in only for the bye week and a possible occasional lucky blowup. I love my RBs. With the increase to 1 PPR for RBs, I decided to go heavy there. I should be seeing my flex guy routinely coming from my RBs. I stayed with a bit of a shotgun approach to my WRs. Since they are generally inconsistent, I still think this is the way to go. I went light at TE. I had Graham in for a little while, but in the end, the cost of the big TEs was too high for me. I decided it could be better spent elsewhere. If the Olsen hype finally comes true, I'll be OK. I've generally carried 3 Ks and Ds but didn't see the benefit this year. The injury risk is low on Ks and obviously doesn't exist with Ds, so I went with the minimums.

For bye weeks, I'm spread out pretty well with most of my dollars focused early. I wanted to be nearly at full strength for weeks 8-11. If I make it to the finals with few injuries, my team should be set up well.

Peyton Manning $18

Andrew Luck $11

Doug Martin $21

Marshawn Lynch $19

Torrey Smith $16

Reggie Wayne $15

Kenny Britt $13

Vincent Brown $6

Jimmy Graham $29

Kyle Rudolph $11

Matt Bryant $4

For the longest time, I was going with only the Steelers D as my 1 D/ST, thinking that they would be fine all the way through and roll the dice that at week 4, I would be strong enough to go without a D/ST. That earlier team also had Gates instead of V. Davis as the compliment to Graham. This contest requires that there be 2 good TE's to last to the end. Earlier, it also had A. Roberts and E. Royal at WR instead of Hill and Gordon. It also had Jonathan Dwyer.

Then last night, I started messing with weekly points and looking at the effect of bye weeks and cut down. I may have made a mistake of getting away from my Steelers only defense as that idea meant no late week byes that could result in me getting cut when the threshold is even tighter. They were the only D/ST team to have a week 4 bye that was any good. The other was I think the Indy Colts. Oh well. What's done is done.

I really debated on adding Ben Tate as handcuff to Foster, but decided $12 for a hand cuff to a $34 rb was too pricey. That will come back to bite me if Foster goes down. I like Matt Ryan for the whole season and see him as the best value that could finish top 5. The Falcons QB has easiest SOS and Gabbert has a decent week 7 match up as the bye replacement.

I wanted 3 proven studs as my more WRs. Titus Young should be able to fill in nicely as bye week replacement.

This contest is such a blast. Good luck everybody.
