**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (1 Viewer)

Cards unis with the red hats are just the best. Why do they go with those stupid dark blues sometimes?
As of last year, they only do it when they are playing at another team with red as a primary color, such as the Reds. Prior to that, the navy blue hat was the primary road hat. I agree with you and I think they have it right with the current set up.
That's good to hear, although not wearing it against the red teams is odd. That would look even better!

Nolan Arenado is just crazy good defensively. He just threw out a plus runner (Chris Young), picking a ball off the 3rd base line and doing a fading jump throw that ended with him 4 or 5 feet in foul territory. Young was out by about 3 steps.

Oh, and he extended his hitting streak to 22 games earlier in the game.

That throw was amazing.

Yeah, he's the best 3Bman in the game with only Machado coming close IMO. Everything with him is just smooth and easy, like he knows the ball was coming to him as if he was taking infield practice.

The funny thing is that people weren't initially sure his glove would stick at third. I think it was heading into his A+ season that he lost about 20 lbs and just worked himself into being a good fielder. He's gotten better every year since.

I don't know, good enough for stan, good enough for me, I like the split, but I forget off hand, did they have blue batting helmets? I think they did, I seem to recall Mark Whiten's 4 homer game in a blue hat.

Anyone have a better bullpen than the yankees? (Thornton, bettances, warren, kelley, robertson). Not counting the guy who pitched the 14th.

Taking my son to his first yankee game today!

Yes, they do (and did) have blue helmets. Same rule applies to the helmets as the hats.

Here's the breakdown:

Home

Mon-Sat: Red hat / Red helmet

Sun only: Bird on bat hat / Red helmet

Away

vs. non-red opponent: Red hat/ Red helmet

vs. red opponent: Blue hat / Blue helmet

depends if you are a quantity or quality type. I prefer to have two shut down guys for the eighth and ninth with a quality loogy instead. I don't see that (yet) in New York.

have you seen their stats? Warren, kelley, and drob have all been shut down guys and thornton has been a great LOOGY... So far being the keyAll have ERAs in the 1s, whips under 1, and k/9 at or above 9. How do you define shut down?

yes, it's also barely been a month, do this for another month plus and I'm on board. That's why I said 'yet.' I think there is a good chance Atlanta is that marquee pen by then, maybe others, but that's the one that sticks out.

I'm very impressed every time I watch Joe Smith. Comes in, no nonsense, works quickly, throws strikes, game over.

He's going to settle in to the closer role nicely.

Problem with Smith is he isn't a power guy and not a K guy. When he does run into trouble he's going to struggle because he can't K guys. He doesn't walk guys though and he is inducing ground balls 70% of the time so far this year. His 90mph fastball moves and his slider is his out pitch, but he only throws those two pitches.

I do like this kind of reliever though, lower walks and lots of ground balls. FB closers are the worst, so even though he has below average stuff he is a guy who locates and understands the game well. Frieri is an unquestioned talent, but Smith seems like a rock regardless of role. I really hoped the Tigers had got him after watching him for so long in Cleveland, he's a good pitcher.

Man, looking at UZR, Beltre seems to have fallen off a cliff last year.

It seems impossible given how fat he is, but Juan Uribe is also pretty amazing at 3B.

Uribe has always been underrated to some degree and the hilariousness of his performance in contract years is what sports is all about. He's always been steady, like Jhonny Peralta. Nothing fancy but when a ball is hit to him, he's gonna make a sound play and you're gonna get an out. Not much diving or fireworks, but steady play which is comforting to fans.

Lots of Tigers fans complained about Peralta's range, but the guy was a favorite of advanced stat compiling and he was going to make a clean play at short when the ball was hit to him. I've always liked Uribe, he plays a very good third and he'll hit timely homers.

Sorry if this is a Honda, but it's bleepin' unreal:

Dating back to July 30 of last year, Greinke has made 18 consecutive regular season starts of five or more innings allowing two or fewer runs. It's the longest such streak in the Major Leagues since 1914.

God the mets bullpen is the suck. I stream eovaldi & niese and somehow neither get the win and my opponents closer gets the win all due to dice ####in k
