**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (1 Viewer)

From Rotoworld's daily email...

In other sports, random Wednesday nights don’t suddenly become magical. Also, other sports don’t have Vin Scully.

Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was the definition of unhittable over nine innings on Wednesday in Los Angeles, striking out a career-high 15 batters and finishing one Hanley Ramirez error short of a perfect game in an 8-0 defeat of the Rockies. It was the first-ever no-hitter for the 26-year-old left-hander, who is sure to flirt with -- and quite possibly achieve -- many more. He did not walk a batter and the only Colorado player to reach base did so on an errant throw from Hanley in the top of the seventh.

By Bill James’ Game Score metric -- which attempts to put a value on individual pitching performances -- it was the second-best outing in baseball history, checking in at 102. Kerry Wood’s 20-strikeout effort from 1998 is the highest at 105.

MLB.com has a video package of every out Kershaw recorded, called by Scully. Special stuff.
Video Link
I like how Scully steps aside right after the final out is made and let's the scene speak for itself. But when he comes back, he sounds barely more excited than he was in the first inning. That's a little strange.

Does anyone have any links/articles/sites that try to predict MLB stats for pitchers based on Minor League stats? I have my full allocation of "likes" to give out.

Not odd at all. That's the way he's called every game in his career.

In MLB The Show, I put ARod on the trading block and guess which team offered me a AA SP prospect straight up for him?

The Phillies  The game is sooooooooooo realistic

thanks, any site show some correlation between hits in the minors vs MLB? I'm guessing that's more difficult to project than K & BB, but the internet is a vast wasteland of stuff.
If you go to fangraphs then scroll to the bottom of the player page, they project stats out 5 years in advance. They do this for all players including guys in the minors. I'm not sure exactly how they calculate the numbers. There are some age adjustments in there.

The guy Theo got ripped for reaching for with the 4th pick, Schwarber, has been promoted to full season A ball after 5 games in the Northwest League. I guess they figured there wasn't much more to learn there with his 1.975 OPS and 4 HRs.

One of the concerns was his lack of a defensive position. The Schwarb had two errors and allowed three stolen bases in his two games at catcher. He was moved to LF in his first game in A ball.

Ok, think I have one more "like" for today.

Looking for runs scored since 2002 in three categories by team

Away at Coors

Away at not Coors

Home

Simply looking to see how many runs more on average a team scores on the road at Coors vs road/overall in general.

I know Rockies score about 1.35 more at home than road, not sure if that's close to visitors.

This one could be on ESPN for all I know

I have a login to Baseball-Reference's Play Index. Just did a couple of queries and pasted them into an Excel sheet to run them all together by team.

Just noticed something weird with the results ... there are about twice as many road as home games. I'll check it in a bit and rerun the numbers.

:hifive: so visitors score about 1.18x as many runs @ Coors vs other games. Interesting.

Aw, I see them now. I don't think I ever bothered to scroll down that far/remember what was down there. That's extremely helpful since it appears to use the MLE Celph direcred me to as well. :hifive:

They drafted him as a LF. The chatter I have seen is that they will let him catch enough to fail.

2 games may be enough

I tried to do the same thing but the total runs kept coming back way too low (like less than 1 per game). Not sure what the deal was.

I went to "Team Batting Streak Finder" and did a search for the years 2002-2014 with Runs >= 0 ... ran it for Home, Away (Any Ballpark) and Away (Coors). Saved them all as CSV files and set it up in Excel.

When we were mentioning slowest MLB players, did Gonzo's name come up? He hit a 5-hopper to 1st, it got booted around, and he still got thrown out by four steps.

Remember Daniel Bard? Guy was destined to take over closing duties from Papelbon. Well...

Daniel Bard’s season for Single-A Hickory (#Rangers): 0.2 IP, 175.50 ERA, 13 ER, 9 walks, no hits, 7 HBP, one strikeout in four appearances.”

New day, more "likes" available.

Any place that allows easy searches on multiple stat searches I.E. day/away, night/Tuesday, etc. Biggest need is day/night home/away splits together. And if they are available for team & player?

Thanks

:tumbleweed: If asking questions about baseball stats in a baseball thread is ridiculous, maybe I need to look more closely at what that word really means.

It doesn't bother me, I just think it's funny. No problem.

Maybe I missed it, but what exactly do you need all these stat searches for?
