**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (1 Viewer)

LOL @ brain-dead BJ Upton. He lets a routine single go under his glove. Turns into a 3-bagger.

But BOY does he blow a helluva bubble after he f--ks up!!!

Frieri comes in with a 5-1 lead to start the 9th. Now 5-5, man on 2nd. Still hasn't recorded an out.

Scioscia better not go to any more funerals.

Phillies fans are the biggest bandwagon riders in all of baseball.A study conducted at Emory University that analyzed consumer demands in baseball from 1998-2014 found that Phillies fans are the least tolerant of losing in all of Major League Baseball. The “fan sensitivity rankings” were based on “statistical models of consumer demand.” The models were built to gauge how fans respond to ticket prices and winning percentages.

The Orioles, A’s, White Sox and Dodgers rounded out the top five, respectively, in the rankings of biggest bandwagon fans based on the model.

On the other end of the spectrum, the teams with fans most likely to attend games and support the team despite ticket prices and winning percentages: Yankees, Cardinals, Marlins, Red Sox and Diamondbacks.

I can almost hear Phillies fans cursing out this study. Almost.
Congrats!
Marlins? Statistically insignificant sample size
They don't show up no matter the circumstances.

Tony would have hit .400 in a full 1994. I have little doubt as pitchers wore down that offensive onslaught of a year.

Thanks selig.

RIP Anthony Keith Gwynn

Nice article on Gywnn.

http://deadspin.com/how-tony-gwynn-cracked-baseballs-code-and-became-a-lege-1591491368

Gywnn hit .444 against John Smoltz, .415 against Greg Maddux, .390 against Curt Schilling, .333 against Pedro Martinez, .303 against Tom Glavine. Unbelievable fact: in 366 plate appearances against those five, he struck out five times.

Greg Maddux once explained that you could trick any hitter into not being able to read the speed of a pitch"Except for that ####### Tony Gwynn."

I'm checking in on the Angels a couple nights a week to see what Trout's doing (amazing) and I can't help but notice Pujols behind him. He just can't do #### anymore. His BB% is 6.6% this year. OBP is barely over .300. wtf

#Athletics acquired Mills from #Brewers for $1. Expected to move into rotation shortly.

Largest strike zone I've seen in a while tonight in New York. Game ended on Anthony Gose going down looking on 3 strikes, none of which were in the zone according to pitchtrax.

I wasn't paying close enough attention to the first two strikes, but strike 3 looked perfect. And certainly too close to take in that spot.

Sure, except for the fact it was a ball.
it was Anthony Gose

Exactly. He swings and he's screwed, so he looked at six straight balls, and still struck out.

I feel your pain and all, but pitchtrax doesn't call balls and strikes. Humans do. We could fill 50 pages on bad umpiring.

BTW, those three "balls" which were called strikes aren't exactly egregious mistakes. They missed by a RCH. Most umps will grant those to the pitcher.

Its not breaking news, but I DVR'ed sportscenter yesterday to see their Tony Gwynn Tribute and....there was no Tony Gwynn tribute. There was in fact no baseball.

I appreciate that its world cup time, but the NBA and NHL are done, and there was zero baseball in the coverage (at least the hour I DVR'ed). We did get to hear about Tony Romo in the OTA's, Tim Duncan's Legacy and Ray Rice possibly being suspended...

Solid work by the Diamondbacks filling the team dooshbag role. There's been a void ever since Sheriff McCann left Atlanta, but the D-backs may be even dooshier than last year's baseball cops.

are they still grittier than other teams?
They're the grittiest last place team ever. They sure showed those nasty Brewers how to plunk a guy and then immediately give up a grand slam and lose the game the right way!

Pathetic...good thing we have MLB Network.

I play a game when the Padres come to bat every inning. I run to the fridge to get a beer, then try to run back to the couch before they make 3 outs.

Eric Byrnes is crushing Ramirez for choking and costing Kershaw a perfect game. Someone is gonna have to let Hanley know who Eric Byrnes is.

Yep. Haven't watched ESPN for anything but games in years.

From Rotoworld's daily email...

In other sports, random Wednesday nights don’t suddenly become magical. Also, other sports don’t have Vin Scully.

Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was the definition of unhittable over nine innings on Wednesday in Los Angeles, striking out a career-high 15 batters and finishing one Hanley Ramirez error short of a perfect game in an 8-0 defeat of the Rockies. It was the first-ever no-hitter for the 26-year-old left-hander, who is sure to flirt with -- and quite possibly achieve -- many more. He did not walk a batter and the only Colorado player to reach base did so on an errant throw from Hanley in the top of the seventh.

By Bill James’ Game Score metric -- which attempts to put a value on individual pitching performances -- it was the second-best outing in baseball history, checking in at 102. Kerry Wood’s 20-strikeout effort from 1998 is the highest at 105.

MLB.com has a video package of every out Kershaw recorded, called by Scully. Special stuff.
