**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (2 Viewers)

Ramsey wasn't even listed in the top 15 prospects for the Cardinals at BP, seems like a fair exchange. Having a good year at AA, could crack the top 100 next year but he is 24 already.
I saw on twitter some site had him at 6.
#6 in cards org for the mlb midseason ratings. He's rising though, interested to see what prospect community says about the trade. I like for both teams

Seems like he's of not much value to the Cards, but at the same time they're giving him away cheaply. Masterson's not really better than what they have, unless he's somehow past his knee thing now.

Wacha was xfered to the 60 day DL.

At the very least, banish him to the pen, where his wildness may be tempered a bit.

Is Kluber forcing his way into keeper discussion or is this a one year wonder?? Seems like he's getting better with each start.

Not a one-year wonder
Agree. Was quietly pretty good last year too.

If you look at his fangraphs page with his minor league and major league numbers they tell a pretty simple story. Guy had good stuff but serious control issues. Started to sort out the control problems about two years ago, sacrificed his K rate just a bit, and now he's in the zone consistently and the Ks are inching back up. Poor man's Cliff Lee.

Passan just said on Twitter that Lester has been traded, but no details on where to or who it's for

ETA: Just saying it's a team on the west coast

Cespedes can opt for free agency after 2015 and has struggled to match his rookie year, it sounds like a better deal for the Red Sox based on his name/reputation than it actually is IMO. The A's are stacked though, holy ####!

Can't help but feel that the Sox/Lester have an agreement in place that he'll be back this winter. If that's the case, then this is a slam dunk for a team that is going nowhere this season.

Yeah if that's the case then it sets the Red Sox up very nicely for next season.

I don't see this.

Kind of agree with this, he's not a good OBP guy. Billy Beane obviously sees things he doesn't like in Cespede, which makes me wary.
Yea - .294 OBP last year and .303 this year. That's pretty bad.

Having said that - good trade for Boston. No chance Lester re-signs in Oakland.

Cespedes still has value for his power and defense, but yeah, I'd say the A's did well here.

Yeah, but a team that is going nowhere this season is always gonna come out ahead on a guy who's a free agent after the season. The question isn't whether they're better off with Cespedes than Lester, but whether they could have gotten a better return than Cespedes once they decided to trade Lester. I think it's possible. There's a lot of contenders with big holes at the top of the rotation; I feel like even more than usual. Orioles, Braves, Pirates, Cards if Wacha is done, Milwaukee if they had any prospects to deal. Cespedes is a quality pickup if they feel they absolutely need to compete next year, but if not I bet they could've done better by going the prospects route.

I liked the idea from a Boston standpoint, and especially if Lester does go back, of trading him to Toronto or Baltimore. You know you're not catching them this year, so why not deplete your rivals cupboard while building up you're own. Then next year you have Lester and Aaron Sanchez or Dylan Bundy and the Jays/O's have neither.

I don't particularly think he will go back to Boston though.

From the Cards perspective re: Lester... I'd be surprised if they add another major SP today. Masterson was their move, I believe.

The A's 4 man playoff rotation might be the best one in the past 40 years.

Can't think of a better 1-4... maybe some of the Braves of Maddux-Glavine-Smoltz and Millwood or the 2003 Yanks, Mussina, Clemens, Pettite and Wells

Would take Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz/Avery of early 90s over the A's quartet for sure.

1993 Braves were good yes, Avery was kind of shot after that. I didnt know if Good Avery and Maddux overlapped, that would probably be tops.

2011 Phillies were better.
that was pretty sick... doc, Lee, Hammels and Oswalt... this might be my real favorite.

Amazing though, amongst all these rotations, only the 95 Braves pulled it out.

86 Mets were Doc, Darling, Ojeda and Sid. Thats's not bad.

A's are still pretty damned good here but I probably jumped the gun calling them the best.
