**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (3 Viewers)

Remember when a lot of people before the season were saying Altuve's speed numbers would be down this year? They might have been wrong.

I painted my shed, gonna watch it dry tonight.
I know I've bagged on baseball here before but after watching the World Cup these past 3 weeks I can't even sit through 5 minutes of this. I like following the stats and standings etc but it is. so. boring to watch.
I've watched more baseball than ever this summer. Family goes to bed, I go to the deck, mix up a drink, open the sliding glass door, and swing the tv around so I can just watch from outside. Not sure if I have watched a day game all year though.

Apparently someone hacked the Astros database and posted 10 months of all sorts of trade correspondence online. Deadspin has all the necessary links/best bits. Some pretty hilarious offers in there.
That's some pretty good stuff. Eerily similar to fantasy baseball.

Joel Piniero suspended for 50 games and released by the Angels. He'd been pitching for their AAA affiliate but hadn't been on a major league roster since 2011.

I don't know what's more surprising: that he was still active or that he has over 100 MLB wins.

It's freakin hilarious how Peavy screams at himself coming off the mound.... every game, every inning.
:goodposting:

Hoping he gags on that ball of chewing tobacco some day.
Jake Peavy hates the White Sox, and so do I

tee shirt worn by Annyong to the Cell before Peavy signed with them(he flirted with them the year before eventually signing).

Beer venders refused to serve him because of his shirt.

Every time I hear his name I can help but think of this shirt.
In a couple of hours, it will be July.

He's got 18 starts on the year and one more win than I do.

Bryce Harper fresh off of missing 60 games comes back and has an open opinion about the starting line-up...unreal
Much ado about nothing. Players share opinions on lineups and batting order all the time. Zimmerman himself had said he'd prefer to stay in LF. Werth has commented on his preference for RF and his distaste for hitting leadoff several times in his time in DC. Harper was just a little more frank because he's not as educated in cliches and avoiding media storms as the vets.

Some people- mostly national media ####-stirrers and fans of rival teams- buy into the narrative that Harper is a doosh and the team hates him. Meanwhile the guy plays his #### off, you can find 100 positive comments about him from teammates for every anonymous negative quote, and the team wins when he's in the lineup.

Saw a comment somewhere that Ted Williams was 100x more abrasive and petulant as a young player than Harper and Puig. Doesn't seem to have damaged his career or reputation.

After missing 60 games, why is this even a thought to him?

I actually like him as a player. I love that he plays his ### off but the comments seemed odd to me

The comments were odd, but he was asked the question. I appreciate that he's honest and willing to let his guard down instead of just saying "whatever's best for the team," which is just a waste of time. He just wasn't as diplomatic in his response as he should have been.

Incidentally, the reason he was asked was that "where does everyone play when Harper is healthy?" was Topic #1 for the Nats for at least a month. People love talking about it and everyone in the city had an opinion. If you went to the Nats thread you'd see we've discussed pretty much every option over and over.

Rick Porcello is shutting out Oakland through 8 without issuing a walk or striking anyone out.
17 ground outs (3 weak pop ups in the 9th), 96 pitches. They corrected his release point a few weeks ago & his sinker has been phenominnal.

Padres are historically bad at scoring runs this season right?

Irving Falu : Strike looking, Ball, Ball, Strike looking, Ball, Foul, Foul, Falu walked. Tyson Ross : Ross fouled out to catcher. Seth Smith : Smith doubled to left center, Falu out at third. End of Inning (0 Runs, 1 Hit, 0 Errors) He was out at third becuase he didn't step on it on his way home. :lmao:

According to Carolyn Jones and Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, city officials on the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority are expected to reject a proposed 10-year lease deal that would keep the Athletics in the O.co Coliseum. The rejection would kill the deal completely.

Here's more from Jones and Slusser:

The Oakland City Council is opposed to the deal, saying it's not beneficial enough to the city, and has instructed two of its members - Rebecca Kaplan and Larry Reid - to present the Coliseum board on Thursday with a new proposal. Kaplan and Reid serve on the Coliseum board, which is made up of eight members - four each from the city and county.

"The council directed us to vote against it," Reid said. "This process has been extremely frustrating for me. I just hope Major League Baseball and the A's can have a little more patience with this council."

The city wants to see the A's annual lease payments increase over the course of the 10-year term, not decrease, as proposed. The Coliseum board agreed to the decrease - from $1.75 million to $1.25 million - as an incentive to keep the team through the duration of the lease. The team has been trying to leave Oakland for at least a decade, complaining of the aging Coliseum.
Lew Wolff, the team's co-owner, said he would not consider a revised agreement. "We believe in our dealings with the JPA. We are 100 percent finished," he said. "We have a 14-month negotiation finished and approved by Major League Baseball and the JPA. If someone wants to do something else, we have no interest in that."

The A's and MLB reached an agreement on the new 10-year lease last week. The city runs the risk of losing the team entirely if they nix the deal, though the Athletics have had a very hard time putting together a relocation deal.

The A's will have to remain in Oakland until their current lease expires in 18 months if the proposed deal falls through. They are free to leave after that.

Harper is going to turn 22 this year. His OPS is .764.

When Ted Williams was 22, his SLG (.735) was nearly as high as Harper's OPS. He also batted .406, and got on base 55% of the time.

#### Bryce Harper.

Anyone have any idea what just happened in the Oakland-Toronto game? I've seen references on Twitter about replay and the game being under protest.
