**Official 2014 MLB Regular Season-All over but the shouting (1 Viewer)

Yanks got Marlon Byrd. Yippee
Only person I've seen report that is Jim Bowden. Jim Bowden is terrible.
Yes: https://twitter.com/jessespector/status/494903630005567488
Bizarre things are now happening to Bowden's twitter account (changed handle, profile pic reverted to an egg). This is almost as intriguing as trade rumors.
the account now appears nuked
Back!

I messed up. #confirmed
The original account, with the changed handle, is back too: https://twitter.com/JimBowdiv

So who us getting Price? Doyers I would think
Sherman reporting that Price is "definitely" getting traded. Dodgers, O's, Tigers I guess the big three possibles

ETA: Mariners dark horse too
Don't rule out the Pirates
Max Wildstein tweeting Pirates are front runners for Price. Deal could involve Josh Bell and Tyler Glasnow :X
No way the Pirates are this dumb

Red Sox moves confuse me.
What is so confusing?
They've gotten no prospects back. They're awful this season and they're picked up a couple guys who have had strong offensive histories but are trending in the wrong direction. Plus, where is Craig even going to play? I guess they think they improve their offense with these moves and throw boatloads of cash at one of Lester/Shields/Scherzer for next season?

I guess I don't see them doing a huge 1 year turnaround, and after 2015, they lose Napoli, Victorino, Cespedes, Ortiz?... I would have expected a more long term focussed deadline. Seems like they've just pushed the inevitable rebuild back a year.

They already have a top 5 farm system in all of baseball. Not sure when you have a 160 million dollar payroll you can go the prospect route in its entirety.

Not sure how Cespedes is trending in the wrong direction, considering he has had a 1/2 year of better baseball than he had last year.

Isn't their farm system already pretty good?

Good move for the A's. YO is all flash.

After years of getting killed by Detroit, Beane finally realizes you need 3 stud pitchers instead of 5 very good ones in the playoffs.

Not next year it won't be top 5, Boegarts skewed that rating. Plus it's hitter heavy and they just traded for Cespedes and Craig. I guess they'll buy pitching.

If you're counting on the farm, you're not looking at next year are you? Why trade for a guy who's gone after next and a guy you don't have a spot on the field for?

Cespedes is trending up from last year, but not close to 2012

No oufielders that are close to the majors hence the tinkering with Betts & Middlebrooks in the minors. Henry Owens better be the real deal .I like the Cespedes deal. Easier to buy pitching than RH power.

So according to NV, unless you trade for a guy who you control for like 7 years, it is a bad trade.
Do you think the Red Sox as constructed now are anywhere close to competing next season? They'd need to sign all 3 of Shields/Scherzer/Lester. I just see them doing this same thing at this time next season, why delay the inevitable?

Seems they're making moves to put themselves in a position to compete in 2015 while their farm guys develop and if it goes bust they blow it all up and start fresh in 2016.

Not getting how they don't have spots for all these guys either. Plan A right now seems to be Craig in right, Victorino in center, Cespedes in left, Xander at 3rd/short, Pedroia at 2nd, Napoli at 1st, Papi at DH, and an unknown (Betts?) at the other left infield spot.

Barnes and Owens only pitchers in top 100, and they are on the back end. There were pitchers rated over Bradley, Swihart and cecchini?

As constructed now, no they are not. Good thing next season doesnt start for 8 months.

Barnes sucks but Owens isn't a back ender

According to BA, Owens was #2, ahead of Bradley, and Webster was #4 ahead of the other two.

But either way, all the talk about prospects from PIT, or STL, or LAD, all revolved around outfielders anyway. There never was too much talk of high end pitching prospects coming back from anyone.

Back end of the top 100, doubt Barnes will make that list next year.

I agree that what it seems like they're doing, I just don't like the half in/half out approach. Toronto has gone that way for 15 years and it's lead to a bunch of 80 win seasons and no playoff berths. If they had the players to do it in 2015, go for it. But IMO, they don't AND they lose some key guys, so go for the future. Of the lineup you list there, CF, LF, 1B and DH are all gone after 2015.

I don't think you would ever see a classic rebuild in Boston under this ownership group
