Josh Donaldson just called in to the Sirius fantasy football channel seeking lineup advice for the league he's in with other A's players.

Seems like a good dude, though shockingly nerdy. Sounded exactly like Napoleon Dynamite.

It seems like baseball players are the only athletes that play fantasy sports. Every year at this time there are a bunch of stories about players having their football drafts. And during spring training every clubhouse has a high-stakes March Madness pool.

Seem to remember a conversation the ESPN podcast clowns had with CC Sabathia about his fantasy football team.

 
I like Washington, he's a character and a good baseball guy. We'll see him again as a manager imo, not much he could have done this year

Plus, the way he runs in place in the dugout when his players are running the bases boosts morale!

Two WS appearances and three playoff appearances in the last 5 years, 4 years straight of 90+ wins before this injury plagued year.

I'm sure someone is willing to give that a chance.

There was a good piece over on Fox by Dave Cameron about how we've basically no idea how to judge the effectiveness of a manager. However, we can observe one thing about Washington - his in game tactics. They're horrible.

This blocking of the plate stuff is just ridiculous. The call in the TB/NYY game is a joke compared to what else has been called this year

*Full disclosure - I'd much rather see it called the way it was here, but some consistency would be nice.

i'll say the same thing about that call I said about the Dioner Navarro call earlier in the thread...if that's not blocking the plate by the rules, I have no effing clue what is.

 
Between this replay crap in MLB, Goodell being a mess as NFL Commish and all of the Donald Sterling, and now Atlanta Hawks owner stuff in the NBA that you look at Gary Bettman and the NHL and say 'you know, they have their #### together'

 
Anyways, the Marlins are set to offer Stanton a record breaking deal

Stanton just took a pitch flush on the side of the face in Milwaukee. Not good. Taken out on a stretcher.

Hate to see that happen. Reminds me of when Andre Dawson got hit in the face in '87, only worse.

And my selfish fantasy baseball self has now lost Jose Fernandez, Masahiro Tanaka and Giancarlo Stanton all in the same season. This should have been my year.

Yes it was painful but it was the correct call.

Imagine now that the pitch does not hit Stanton, but he does the same thing. You can see at the end of the play that the bat flies out and into the strike zone. The pitch is called a strike, it is certainly within the letter of the rule. Stanton's bat goes right through the plane of the strike zone and is rightfully considered a strike, no matter how inhumane that call is to an injured player.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing. Appears he'd only miss the 8 postseason games, though, and would be eligible if the Orioles play more than that. Looks like the new rule that PED users are ineligible for the postseason doesn't apply to stimulants.

I doubt it matters much; he's been really bad all year.

Based on OPS, only 7 players have ever had a worse year with 25+ HR:

0.660 Vernon Wells 2011

0.663 Tony Batista 2003

0.665 Aaron Hill 2010

0.686 Dave Kingman 1986

0.698 Joe Pepitone 1964

0.700 Rob Deer 1991

0.700 Lee May 1978

Only Deer had a lower BA, and Deer, Wells and Hill had fewer RBIs.

I had Pat Haden to Billy Waddy all queued up but the Dodgers scored #15 before I could get back from the kitchen.
