OFFICIAL 2014 Training Camp & Preseason: News & Tidbits Thread (1 Viewer)

And it's rare I say anything positive about ESPN, but Kudos to them for these camp reports. I expected to see nothing but comments on "stars," but they're digging deep here. Good stuff.

A couple things from what Clayton says that stand out.

1. The last time the NFL reinforced the no chuck rule in 2004 illegal contact penalties went from 79 to 191. A league record. Now the NFL intends to increase the enforcement of it again after the calls had slipped to only 38 last season.

2. Jeff Tedford and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do plan to run the hurry up no huddle offense.

The number of illegal contact penalties has been dropping from 72 in 2011 to 63 in 2012 to just 38 last season.

Officials haven't been gun-shy about throwing defensive interference flags. More than 200 have been called in each of the past three years.

As a Bengals' fan...I want Hill to be successful from the start. Good news so far. "On the blitz pickup drills Hill was part of, he won both times he was paired with linebacker Vincent Rey. Those were two noteworthy plays in an afternoon that also saw him run aggressively as he slipped in and out of holes on some of the first inside runs the Bengals have worked on in this training camp."

Is it me or is the SD report a lot more interesting? In Denver it felt like everyone is standing around being cool and in SD it seems like guys are flying around everywhere. I'm not implying SD is the better team, far from it but I find it interesting the tone of the two pieces.

Article #2 - TRIBUNE REVIEW - Worlids had a good day going step-for-step with RB Dri Archer for an INT; With Bell out (as a precaution) Blount disappoints, while Archer shines; also individual reports on Spence (ILB), Blake (CB), Dangerfield (S), Johnson (H-BACK), and Justin Brown (WR) who has been a camp standout thus far

Article #3 - Dale Lolley's "NFL FROM SIDELINE - He basically echoes what the previous 2 articles mentioned, but also includes an abbreviated interview transcript from Kevin Colbert's media interview from earlier in the day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans geared up for their first practice in full pads Monday. Here are some of the hot topics and big plays from practice.

• Shonn Greene got his biggest workload Monday and his knee is holding up just fine thus far. Coach Whisenhunt mentioned that he still has a ways to go to get in shape and needs to lose 5-10 pounds.

• Kendall Wright continues to be the star amongst the receivers. He and Jake Locker connected numerous times, both saying after practice that they’re chemistry is great together. Wright did drop one pass over the middle which was the first drop I’d seen from him in three days.

• Zach Brown made the defensive play of the day, intercepting a pass from Locker by stealing it from the arms of tight end Taylor Thompson. He was challenged by coach Whisenhunt yesterday to have a big camp.

• Today was the practice in pads and our first chance to see the battle in the trenches. Coach Whisenhunt said he needed to look at the film to evaluate, but it was definitely physical. One of the most entertaining drills of the day was the 1v1 pass protection drill with running backs/tight ends vs defensive lineman/linebackers.

• Veteran receiver Derek Hagan continues to have his fair share of catches. Coach Whisenhunt mentioned that he is impressed with how he has come in ready to compete for a roster spot after being out of football in 2013.

• Other players coach Whisenhunt said he was impressed with included Bishop Sankey Mike Martin, Derrick Morgan Jurrell Casey, and Kamerion Wimbley

• The Titans have done some special teams work on kickoffs/kick returns but didn’t use a live ball. That means we’re yet to see the beginning of the Maikon Bonani vs. Travis Coons kicking competition. Dexter McCluster, Leon Washington Marc Mariani, and Bishop Sankey all served as kick returners for the drill.

• Rookie tackle Taylor Lewan continues to work with the first team at left guard. He says he is learning the offense and new terminology at the position. Both he and Whisenhunt discussed how it’s important to learn to work with the other starters and build chemistry.

• Whisenhunt was pleased with many things from today’s practice, but said that it was an easy day with cooler weather. Stringing practices together in the intense heat will be a telling challenge.
