OFFICIAL 2019 Training Camp & Preseason: News & Tidbits Thread (2 Viewers)

Hayden Winks @HaydenWinks

"KeeSean Johnson may have had the best training camp of anyone on the Cardinals' roster, veteran or rookie alike. He's displayed a sharp route tree and great hands, both of which have made him an early favorite with the coaching staff." #Cardinals

This type of response is why nfl teams “leak” their per year contract offers. They are extremely misleading as most people, even educated people who dwell in forums like this, see the per year avg and move on without asking about the real important number, the guaranteed money.

It’s most assuredly a discussion for a separate thread but I speculate that the Chargers offered him a 4 year extension, 40 mil total with 18-20 mil guaranteed new money. Sounds great right? It’s not though because if Gordon played out this year well (or even if he just got through it uninjured), they would’ve likely franchise tagged him for a fully guaranteed 1 year, 12 mil contract. So when you look at my speculative offer, they basically added 6-8 mil guaranteed, less than even one year under the franchise tag, and they get 3 more years of control wherein they can cut him with little to no cost after the second one. Basically, he gets big money in theory but if he suffers a career ending injury, playing for them in game 1 this year after signing that extension, he would only get the amount equal to the franchise tag next year and a little extra. What he probably would’ve accepted is 4 years/40 mil with 24-28 mil guaranteed (there’s that 12-14 mil/year number people keep hearing). Since running backs are generally considered replaceable, and there is good recent history to support that theory, it makes sense that they didn’t want to do that. Still sucks for fans of football though.

Also, totally could’ve seen the Colts trading something for Gordon and giving him money if Mack suffered a torn ACL or something. They have the cap space and will be players for him next year if Mack doesn’t pan out
I've heard of money before, but can you drill down a little bit on what "guaranteed money" means?

Mike Jurecki @mikejurecki

The addition of WR Michael Crabtree provides the team an “X” receiver and familiarity with the Kingsbury offense. My top 5 Fitz, Kirk, Sherfield/Johnson/Crabtree (last three any in order)

Kingsbury meets with the media at 12:50 #AZCardinals.com

John Keim @john_keim

Would expect Penn to get the start for Keenum’s blind side. Had to ease him back in for first two weeks. Also expect Guice to play. Not a surprise there. Has been building. Confidence expressed during the week.

#Ravens TE Mark Andrews told @RapSheet he has a “super unique” connection with Lamar Jackson. After breakout seasons from both players in 2018, the two are expected to be big pieces of the Ravens’ offense this season

Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero

By the way, Kenyan Drake, last seen in a walking boot due to foot injury, is out of the walking boot and jogging.

Mike Chappell @mchappell51

Colts roster moves: Sign DT Johnny Robinson, waive RB James Williams.
Turns out Williams has a learning disability. Given his talent & the fact he was a priority FA signing for KC, I was really surprised the Chiefs cut bait so early. It just didn't make sense. Evidently, Williams had a real problem learning their offense & compounding the issue was him getting nervous because of it.

Hopefully, Williams can land on a PS somewhere, settle in, & eventually make the 53. He's got a lot of raw ability.

I don't cover the Ravens, but I'm buying Miles Boykin stock. Looked good at practice this week. Just had big play there. (Also was impressed by Justice Hill on Tues.)

Jamison Hensley @jamisonhensley

Just as you're seeing in this game in Philly, Ravens are going to rely on their rookie wide receivers this season. Baltimore is getting the ball in the hands of Hollywood Brown (2 catches for 12 yards) and Miles Boykin (one reception for 44 yards).

Jonas Shaffer @Jonas_Shaffer

Impressive play by the Ravens rookies: Trace McSorley hits Miles Boykin on a corner route, Boykin gets some serious YAC, and Justice Hill had a takeout block on the nearest pass rusher.

News from Pete Carroll's presser: WR David Moore suffered what sounds like a serious shoulder injury in practice yesterday. Carroll said he'll be out for a while and later said he's not expected to be back by Week 1. WR corps taking some hits with Moore and DK Metcalf hurt.

new-age analytical @benbbaldwin

Seahawks wide receivers:

->Tyler Lockett: really good!

->David Moore: shoulder injury, out for Week 1

->DK Metcalf: recovering from knee surgery

->Jaron Brown: had 14 catches for Seahawks last season

->Gary Jennings: 4th round rookie

->John Ursua: 7th round rookie

Joe Fann @Joe_Fann

Pete Carroll said he would like to see #Seahawks rookie WR Gary Jennings play well in the final two preseason games.

"This is a good chance for him the next couple weeks to make a statement.”

Graham Barfield @GrahamBarfield

Nick Foles played 18 snaps in #Jaguars third preseason game. Snap counts were:

- Leonard Fournette 17 (also played 3/3 third downs)

- Chris Conley 17

- D.J. Chark 16

- Dede Westbrook 14 (in slot on 11 snaps)

- Keelan Cole 1

- Ryquell Armstead 1

Bengals undrafted rookie WR Damion Willis started Thursday's third preseason game and caught 3-of-6 targets for 55 yards and one touchdown.

Willis is an UDFA out of Troy who stands 6'3/201 and ran a 4.51 forty at his Pro Day. He's been a camp standout in Cincinnati and got the nod with the Andy Dalton group next to Tyler Boyd with A.J. Green nursing his ankle injury. Willis made a dazzling 33-yard grab over the top of Janoris Jenkins, fighting off defensive pass interference. He stayed in the game with the second- and third-team offenses before later catching a touchdown from No. 3 QB Jake Dolegala. Willis could have an early-season role in three-wide sets alongside Boyd and John Ross.

Yeah? Was wondering what the hell was going on with him

Been saying it for months: #Browns offensive line continues to look like their potential Achilles heel. Held up very poorly vs a very subpar #Bucs front last night. Cleveland front five is down to two quality starters in LG Joel Bitonio & C J.C. Tretter.

Sources from Laremy Tunsil's team have confirmed with our own @TonyPauline that he has been dangled around the league as trade bait. This is in line with what we reported last night - the Miami #Dolphins are shopping a number of veterans on their roster, which includes Tunsil.

Draft and auction for me in 2 leagues yesterday, before any of the game action.  Between Luck's retirement and Miller's injury, the waiver run in those leagues on 9/4 is going to be fascinating.

When asked about the team's starting quarterback competition on Sunday, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said, "This could go either way."

The Dolphins were hoping to have a decision by now, but Flores is obviously still deliberating. Neither Ryan Fitzpatrick or Josh Rosen have had strong preseasons, which has made it a tougher call for the first-year head coach. "I think they’re both working hard, both have leadership, both have done a lot of good things," said Flores. "This will be a hard decision for the staff." Flores expect to make his decision by mid-week, though he's not sure if he'll announce it publicly. While Week 4 of the preseason is often reserved for fringe roster types, it's possible we see all three Dolphins quarterbacks—Fitzpatrick, Rosen and Jake Rudock—compete in Thursday's preseason finale at New Orleans.

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice suspects the Colts will have interest in Nate Sudfeld.

The Colts are sure to address their quarterback depth following Andrew Luck's sudden retirement and Sudfeld could be on their radar. Indianapolis tried to poach Sudfeld off Philadelphia's practice squad in 2017, prompting the Eagles to add him to their active roster. Coach Frank Reich also has a strong familiarity with Sudfeld, serving as his offensive coordinator in 2017 before defecting to Indianapolis the following offseason. Sudfeld, who is still recovering from wrist surgery, became expendable when the Eagles lured veteran backup Josh McCown out of retirement.
