btw... I've said it for years- Thomas Muller is a diving, embellishing ####tard. Pepe had every right to get in his face after that bull#### "oh my nose" theatrics when Pepe barely grazed his chin. of course there's "getting in his face" and 'getting in his face'.
Now imagine it was Ronaldo....this thread would have been 10 pages longer all because of the "diving sissy boy" posts
I loved his interview after the game: I hope I didn't look too bad. :lmao:

Only thing worse than these soccer players like Dempsey rolling around holding their face and holding the game up are these boxers that take a left hook to the chin and lay on the ground like they are dead waiting for the ref to count to 10.
Dempsey's reasonable reaction to having his nose broken only amplifies how awful some of the theatrics are that the 'haters' complain about. You're making their point for them.
F their point. If you don't like it, don't watch. But don't tell me that the flopping is the only thing keeping them from watching.
Like.

And I still don't get ESPN's decision to use Spanish accented commentators for Mexico games.
They're from Mexico? (To be clear Mex-Am)

SOOOOOOOOO not a fan of those guys for US v Mexico games, but can imagine Mexican-Americans aren't fan of former US Nats calling the game either.
This announcing team has grown on me a bit. They're very funny on occasion and seem to have tempered their homer tendencies for the tournament.

I have very few criticisms of ESPN's handling of the in-game action. The PBP announcers have been solid and the decision to assign color commentators to certain teams has produced some interesting insights.
I have a feeling we're going to long for this type of coverage once Fox takes over for the 2018 Cup.

FWIW, I thought Dempsey was a great answer to people who don't like the flopping.

He broke his nose, took a hard kick to the head, refused the little paramedic boat and went back in the game with gauze stuffed up his nose.

Not sure how you play any tougher than that.

For people that hate the flopping, I'd use Dempsey yesterday as an example. (Disclaimer, I've watched Dempsey play exactly 1 game but what I saw from him yesterday, he's the poster guy for anti flopping)

Yeah, I didn't see much flopping by the US team (if any at all.) Is the US team just as guilty when it comes to flopping? Was that game just an anomaly? Or do they play a cleaner game?

I tried to explain it to him yesterday but he must not have read it. He is overthinking it. It is just something Fifa uses to get players off the field. It has nothing to do with serious injuries.

There was an article in the NY Times yesterday about how the U.S. is at a competitive disadvantage because it rarely flops.

For Joe - you'll enjoy this one - it helps explain the life-boat sort of design of the current stretcher:

Ironically Dempsey might be the closest thing we have as he will flop when he feels the need.

The US is no different than 50% of the teams in that they still do it, just less than some of the latino teams.

Unfortunately this thread is likely to be unreadable during/after the Portugal game since that will be the main talking point.

I am even thinking of just retreating to the soccer thread to post to get away from it.

i hate this guy on color commentary - he might as well be Stevie Wonder. No way was that a yellow
I thought so, but I am also heavily rooting for Mexico.
In protecting the 3.5 slots for CONCACAF, I'll root for Honduras. I'll even root for Costa Rica. No way in hell I'm rooting for Mexico.
Yeah, I suggest the compromise - we root for a Mexican loss that's by a non-embarrassing score. Let's say Dos a Cero :)

I just think it's kind of :lmao: as one usually thinks of the stretcher as something serious. But cool that Dempsey refused it.

Sweet article!

We may be at a disadvantage, but I am much prouder of our team for playing fair.

Belgium may be young, but this lineup looks pretty good:

Belgium XI vs Algeria: Courtois; Alderweireld, Van Buyten, Kompany, Vertonghen; Witsel, Dembele, De Bruyne; Hazard, Chadli, Lukaku.
Man, the Belgians hate fullbacks.
looks like the Belgium coach figured out the correct usage for Fellaini :fro:
Never would have figured that one year ago.

It's to keep the game moving for guys who may or may not actually be injured. Ref calls for the stretcher and off they go- game back on. I would say most guys refuse it.

It's not about being seriously hurt, it's about moving the game along.
