Julian Greens dad appears to be upset with Alex Morgan.

JGreen, M.P.A. (@jgreenSTPA) tweeted at 11:48pm - 16 Jun 14:

I have no idea. There was nothing in her recent twitter feed that makes any sense.

Maybe she did an interview?

A total guess was that she was probably wondering why a slot was used on Julian instead of bringing a back up for Jozy but I really have no idea. It struck a nerve obviously.

Oh it might be this since he linked the article but that appears to be a pretty benign comment. She did not say anything that any other fan has not thought.

Green didn't directly take Donovan's spot, but the perception is there. As U.S. women's soccer star Alex Morgan tweeted during the game June 1 against Turkey: "I really want to like Julian Green. I really do."

It can't be the "I really want to like Julian Green" tweet during one of the send off friendlies, can it? Because if that's all it was, I think she was basically echoing the feelings of a lot of Nat fans during that game.

Got curious about something and looked it up. Since the US returned to the WC in 1990 ('90, '94, '98, '02, '06, '10, '14):

--We've played 23 games (#s 24/25 upcoming).

--In those 23 we've gone 5-5-13 (4-4-5 since 2002)

--And in those 23 games we've scored 22 goals while giving up 36 (16-19 since 2002).

I had to turn this thread off this morning so I could watch the games a virgin tonight. After watching a few observations (probably discussed ad nauseum already)

- Cahill takes the lead for the goal of the tournament so far. Awesome volley.

- Chile looked like Spain on their first goal. Clinical set of three passes to make for the nicest team goal so far. Really impressive.

- Sergio Ramos wearing long sleeves. In Brazil. In June.

- Alex Song - Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

Try hard not to show your ignorance ;) June is almost winter in Brazil. Rio de Janeiro high temp was in the low 70's. Sao Paulo high temp in the low 60's. Like the US, Brazil is a big country, and the temp can vary significantly from north to south.

He was the only one. Weather was very humid/muggy in Rio, not cold at all.

I was just yacking, man. No need to be a ####.

Edit - ex post facto smilie noticed. Dickishness repealed.

LOL...9 degrees above the average. Maybe he read the papers.

Or maybe he thought the game was going to be on the 19th, when the high is predicted to be 70 degrees.

In any case to presume it is hot because it is Brazil, and in June, is to mistake the country for being all tropical.

Personally in Rio and can attest that it was hot yesterday. It only gets 'cold' when the rain sweeps in and then you'll see the locals trembling in their winter coats when it's 70-75 degrees

Two huge games today. Gotta think England - Uruguay decides who gets out behind Italy (I don't think Costa Rica sees another point) and then Columbia - Coast should be fun to watch.

Japan - Greece on the other hand should be shown at like 3 am here. :yucky:

England 1-0 Uruguay

Italy 2-0 Costa Rica

Italy through, Uruguay out

Costa Rica 1-1 England

Coin flip?
I won't be shocked if Costa Rica gives Italy all it can handle tomorrow. Recife will be hot, humid, rainy, and windy...ie Saprissa most any day of the year.

I'm looking forward to this one too, but I'm not sure that it will necessarily decide who advances. If Uraguay wins, there's a good chance of a three way tie for second in the group. Goal differential will be huge.

Did they put all the crappy games on at 6 this week on purpose? As in 12 and 3 are the prime time games for them? Or was it pre determined when they did the draw?

S. Korea - Russia

Cameroon - Croatia

Japan - Greece

Honduras - Ecuador

It's almost like they threw the US a bone giving us the 6 pm start on Monday instead or Iran - Nigeria.

Just curious as it's hard to see the afternoon games some days.

A Chilean porn star has fulfilled a promise she made on social media after her country’s 3-1 win over Australia at the World Cup – by going on a 12 hour sex marathon.

Ahead of La Roja’s Group B opener against the Socceroos on Saturday morning (June 14, Singapore time), adult entertainer Marlen Doll sent a message over Twitter promising to hook up with different men for eight hours should Alexis Sanchez and Co. pick up three points.

A day after the win, Doll spread her contact details over the Internet and the party began.

The adult entertainer enjoyed herself so much that she even extended the orgy by four hours.

With the 12-hour shift of love-making under her belt, Doll is promising to go even further by throwing a 16-hour marathon should Chile beat Spain in their next match.
Apparently this is going on right now, and she's posting pics of it on her twitter as of half an hour ago (don't look for them, not worth it).

Wonder what happens if Chile beats Nederland

I agree. Thought the 6pm games would be the better matchup of the day.

Japan is a fun team to watch and that Honduras/Ecuador game is intriguing to me. Could be good, physical battle or could be boring....at least there's a chance it'll be good

I lived in South America near the equator. I'm familiar with the weather patterns (rainy-dry seasons versus the full four seasons, etc.). I wasn't trying to start a weather debate. Just noticed on a darn hot/muggy evening he was wearing long sleeves. Pretty odd.

AC Milan are considering offering Arsenal a cut-price deal for striker Mario Balotelli – if they get Costa Rica star Joel Campbell as a makeweight.

That’s according to reports in the Italian media.

The Italiant giants are currently demanding £27m for Balotelli but will lower their demands if they can sign Campbell, claims Tuttosport.

Campbell, aged 21, joined Arsenal three years ago but has spent that time on loan at Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos after failing to secure a UK work permit.

US Camp sure seems quiet. Have heard next to nothing since Monday night.
Probably just as well - they looked exhausted after Ghana. Not a whole lot of news really to report - Besler and Dempsey will be back, Jozy will not (at least for Portugal). Heard they were getting a day of rest, but at this stage, they just need to fine-tune a few things - like getting Bradley a little further up field - and then getting Bradley the ball, and how they intend to play the front 2 without Jozy.

And, as excited as I was for the result in that game, they barely snuck by the easiest game in their group. They need to keep their heads down and focus on Portugal, and hope there is a football malady that has struck the entire Iberian Peninsula.

They are scheduling Euro teams in the 12 and 3pm slots since that is 5-6pm and 8-9pm over there. The 6pm games are around midnight over there. The US (I mean ESPN) requested the 6pm games for the US audience.

Hmm. If that's the case then I'm surprised espn was ok with a noon game for Germany. Will have to significantly cut into their ratings (as opposed to the other 4:00 start window).

The 3rd round of games are pretty much set since they have to be played at the same time. So no scheduling adjustments can really be made.

I think the Spain think is ripe for a lot of overreaction. In truth, Spain dominated the first half of the Netherlands game, creating tons of chances (that Oranje back three is shaky). They just didn't take them. I only saw the second half yesterday, but they created their share there as well. Add in three goals that can probably be attributed to goal keeper error, and I think its a huge overreaction to claim that:

1. Tiki Taka is dead or something everybody has "figured out"; and

2. That the pipeline of Spanish playmakers (Silva, Mata, Koke, Iniesta, Cesc with Isco and Muniain in the pipeline) is played out.

They already have the next goalkeeper for presumably the next 10 years in De Gea. They might already have the next generation of strikers in Jese and Morata. The one hole that I don't see being easily patched on the horizon is center back, but it's not as if I'm clued in to all the promising 20 year old CBs in the world.

Goodposting. That was a very Americentric comment.

Greece and Croatia and Cameroon (and part of Russia) are all in European time zones. I guess for Japan and South Korea the 6:00 time slot is better because they can wake up early to watch the game instead of having it in the middle of the night.

 all those games are pretty mediocre to bad. How is that an "americentric" comment?

They were pretty dreadful in the first half. I don't think Alba had a good pass all day and Busquets wasn't much better.

I do think they'll have some problems as I think Xavi really made tiki taka work. I'm not sure Koke/Mata/Isco in their current development ease that lose. They also have problems on the forward line. They really are missing someone who gets behind the defensive to receive that final ball. Costa for all his gifts isn't that type of forward and Torres is Torres at this point. Yeah they gifted some goals, but it's not like they were just unlucky. They were pretty bad, slow, and lacking ideas for much of the Chile match.

Croatia's 5 million person audience on free tv isn't really pushing the n$$dle. Neither are Greece or Cameroon.

That makes sense. Teams with more viewers get better time slots. I don't think I have much of a problem with that.

Sort of agree - but Tiki Taka is a non-starter unless you have the right personnel to run it - not many do.

I think Spain made the same mistake many wanted the US to do - stick with the old guard (Donovan) too long. Its understandable , to a degree, that Spanish side might have been one of the best teams ever. But, everything evolves, and these guys were not getting younger, and a few had come off very long, demanding, club seasons. Spain would have helped themselves to have started to integrate some of the younger players into the side, even if that meant switching tactics.

I do wonder, though, how that would have played on the team, where there is already a constant RM/Barca friction.

Also the two teams they played were very bad match-ups for Spain - Netherlands with a strong tactician able to prepare for 6+ months, and a Chilean side bursting with energy.

I certainly expected them to make it through, but in hindsight, its not hard to see why they failed.
