Official 2015 Cowboys Thread- 4-12. We won the 4th pick! (1 Viewer)

so as a mason owner, would a cowboy fan be willing to say, trade their 2nd and 5th round picks for tre mason and a 4th?

Here is my final Cowboys mock prior to the draft. It will be 7 rounds and I mock what I think the team will do, not what I would do. I will also not factor ADP into this. Let's assume the price is too steep and we pass.

Draft needs: CB, RB, DT, DE, WR, S

27. Kevin Johnson - CB, Wake Forest Fits a need and BPA.

60. Damarious Randall - Safety, Arizona Could be steal o the draft

91. TJ Yeldon - RB, Alabama I don't buy all these RB's going as high as everyone thinks. TJ, compliments McFadden.

127. Taiwon Jones - LB, Michigan St Very under rated prospect

163. Jalston Fowler - FB, Alabama Nick Saban connection to Red. Upgrade over Clutts.

236. Sean Mannion - QB, Oregon St Dallas take a flier on a falling QB.

243. Kyle Loomis - P, Portland State Chris Jones was terrible last year.
Got the position right. I thought a quality corner would be there and was glad it was not Peters.

Randall continued to move up boards and I think they took Jones to play corner and back up Safety. I also believe Yeldon is moving up boards as well.

Great start...looking forward to tomorrow night.

I agree. I like Byron Jones as well. Just not in that spot. I thought they could have taken Brown, Landon Collins, or Jalen Collins and still moved up in the 2nd round to grab Jones. Instead, New England ends up with the perfect replacement for Vince Wolfork. How do they get this damn lucky every year???

I disagree...you don't draft 1 techniques in the first round.

That's a very good point. Brown wasn't the pass rusher the Boys were looking for at the DT position. He's a much better 3-4 NT.

I'm warming up to the Byron Jones pick. I originally thought he was more of a cerebral, hard-working, over-achieving type of corner but his athleticism is waaaaay better than I realized.

- 6'1" 199lbs (making him one of the biggest corners in the draft)
- 10" hands (largest hands of any corner at the combine)
- 44.5" vertical (best vertical out of any corner at the combine by THREE INCHES)
- 12'3" broad jump (broke the combine record)
- 6.78 3-cone (4th best at the combine ... 1/100th of a second slower than Jalen Collins)
- 3.94 Short Shuttle (2nd best at the combine)
- 10.94 60yd shuttle (best at the combine)
- He also had a 4.36 40 at his pro day (didn't run the 40 at the combine)

Very nice start yesterday. Let's keep it rolling!

Here's my next few rounds wish list

60: R2P28
DE NATE ORCHARD
UTAH
91: R3P27
RB JAY AJAYI
BOISE STATE
127: R4P28
DE DANIELLE HUNTER
LSU
163: R5P27
WR TY MONTGOMERY
STANFORD

Would love to see Gregory, Kendricks or Odighizuwa in the 2nd, but I think we would have to trade up to get either of them.
Agreed trade up would likely be needed. If at 60 I could see:

Mario Edwards DE

Carl Davis DT

Duke Johnson RB

TJ Yeldon RB

Michael Bennett DT

Nate Orchard DE

Dark horse....Donovan Smith OT

I think we need to go DE here. The dropoff afterwards is brutal.

As far as RB in the 3rd, I like Yeldon, Duke or David Johnson, Langford

I hope someone rated higher drops, but I feel teams will start the RB run too soon in the 2nd.

I can't think of one thing Jalen Collins has over Byron Jones, and I'm a Jalen Collins fan.

Measureable? Jones by a wide margin.

Experience? Jones.

Game tape? Jones.

Versatility? Jones, great prospect for dime package FS, something sorely needed.

Character? Jones.

etc...

Fingers crossed but I think this is a can't miss contributor. Collins would have been a fine addition, but Jones is better.

Remember first round CB Mike Jenkins in 08? I liked that pick but was in love with Weddle who they never should have passed on. Well, 4 rounds later they picked up another CB, a high character guy with great measureables, Orlando Scandrick. With Carr likely gone, which is probably depending on Jones' first ota; and Claiborne disappointing and injured, do not be surprised if they tap another CB. There are some "Scandricks" to be had this year.

Love Langford!

Yeldon won't make it out of the 2nd.

I like Buck Allen and they did bring him in for a visit. Langford is better in pass protection than any back named above. Sounds good to me.

I think we are targeting a bigger back to compliment McFadden. Not get another speedster type.

This why I maintain we covet Yeldon and Langford :)

McFadden has been playing at 220+ for a few years. He was 218 at the combine. He's fast, but he's a thumper by style. Langford was 208 and not a power runner, imo. Just a good versatile reliable ball player. Yeldon, Ajayi, Davis, Allen, Cobb and Williams are the biggish power runners in the draft.

I'm still pulling for Ryan Williams, btw. He's got game if he's healthy and there's a Miles Austin-ish practice squad buzz about his play. He's struggled in pass pro when healthy so maybe a year of study and practice squad has sorted that out. A full strength RWilliams or DMac is >>>>>>> than the rookies, but both will need supplementing, maybe by each other.

Btw, the best part about the Skins taking that OLman at 5 is the Giants REALLY wanted him and the skins will find a way to ruin it.
Hah. Scherff is damn good, but he's limited. I'd upgrade that running game though. Not sure what the Giants were thinking. I'd be shocked if they couldn't get him in the 2nd?

I see the talent, but he seems more like a 3-4 OLB to me. Or is he just a situational pass rusher in our scheme.

How could you guys not see this coming?
Why not take a chane on this guy...it was a need and he is 1st round talent...hopefully his troubles are behind him...I'm excited with our 1st two picks and with the eagles debacle....Bradford should be out by week 3...of the preseason.

I'm not saying he's as good as Ware, don't get me wrong. But, to have a massive talent like Gregory disrupting the pass is huge. "Situational" in this league is now like 70% of the time. Need a guy like him.

Relax buddy.

I like his talent more in a 3-4. He's gonna have to gain like 30-40 pounds to play 3 downs. That's a lot.

Garrett is looking pissed in the war room. Getting a pep talk from Jerrah.

Hoping that all these off-the-field Gregory reports are blown out of proportion.

Werder saying mental mealth issues kinda scares me a bit...

Yeah, it's a red flag there are multiple incidents with him, not an isolated thing. He might be troubled and wind up like Aldon Smith, Hardy, etc. Strikes me as a pretty bright guy, so I just hope he makes the effort to address whatever demons are there.

I'm ok swinging for the fences with him in round 2 and taking that chance with him.

Huge risk / reward pick I guess..

sorry..not happy with this one..Wanted Jay...
I agree. Thought we loved him. Guess his medicals were not good.

Also liked Bennett there or Grady Jarrett

Didn't really see why we needed OL early. Based on the lst fewyears picks, I'm going to give them some slack.

Gonna be Chaz Green OT I hear
I'm fine with this. He's a smart player with great feet and plenty of power. I hated losing Parnell, so here's Free's understudy. I'm at a loss with TJ Clemmings fall, but I guess the medical issues are way worse than I thought. I like OLs. They make RBs look good.
