Official 2015 Cowboys Thread- 4-12. We won the 4th pick! (1 Viewer)

I just can't see this being 10 games. I think what he did is abhorrent, but seeing as the charges were dropped, I just can't see this being more than 6 after appeal.

TBH, I'm indifferent either way, but it's a shame that the appeal won't be completed until after the draft.

Don't see how having Hardy on a less than one season lease will change the draft plans. All it does is give you first dibs on overpaying him next year if he is a monster, if he isn't, ciao, bambino. So a pas rushing DE will likely be a need anyway

Here is my final Cowboys mock prior to the draft. It will be 7 rounds and I mock what I think the team will do, not what I would do. I will also not factor ADP into this. Let's assume the price is too steep and we pass.

Draft needs: CB, RB, DT, DE, WR, S

27. Kevin Johnson - CB, Wake Forest Fits a need and BPA.

60. Damarious Randall - Safety, Arizona Could be steal o the draft

91. TJ Yeldon - RB, Alabama I don't buy all these RB's going as high as everyone thinks. TJ, compliments McFadden.

127. Taiwon Jones - LB, Michigan St Very under rated prospect

163. Jalston Fowler - FB, Alabama Nick Saban connection to Red. Upgrade over Clutts.

236. Sean Mannion - QB, Oregon St Dallas take a flier on a falling QB.

243. Kyle Loomis - P, Portland State Chris Jones was terrible last year.

10 games...lol. My god, Goddall is a piece of work.
Hardy probably shouldn't even be in the league. Sorry this hurts your team's 2015 season.
LOL okay moral compass white knight guy
I know. It's a lot to assume some fans even have a conscience around these things, let alone divorce themselves from their beloved team for a second when it comes to real life issues of violence, rape, child abuse, etc.

Having no DL on that list is pretty bold.

A few things -

If the edge rushers Pittsburgh wants are gone then I think Kevin Johnson would be their pick.

I doubt Randall makes it to pick 60.

I expect a RB run in the mid to late second round lasting into the top of the third round. Yeldon should go somewhere toward the end of that run.

Mannion is usually ranked as the 6th QB in this draft. I think he will be gone long before pick 236.

Fair comment. Can't fill every hole. I think the top 3 selections are instant contributors. I did look at Michael Bennett in the second and OO in the first.

I would love to see other realistic Cowboy fans mocks.

I'm not nearly competent enough to try a mock draft. I like what you have to say, BG, along with the others usually found in this thread.

The only 'prediction' I can offer is what I posted earlier in this thread: With the plethora of picks the cowboys have next year, I feel they will be trading up and end up with two first round picks this year(both picks will be used on DLinemen).

I know the Cowboys would be better with Hardy in, but I just cannot get worked up about him being suspended 10 games. ODds are it gets reduced, but I don;t much care.

Rumor is the "altercation" at the facility was because someone called him a women beater and he got pissed.

He was coming down on a rookie who was half assing it in practice. Team leaders have come out in their support of him being a good mate

What extra picks? Comp picks?

Yes, we have a good set of comp picks in next years draft. I know they aren't set in stone yet, but they can still be used effectively.

The RB class is pretty deep this year. We can wait til the 3rd or 4th round to grab a decent back. Offer a team in the 12-18 spot a good deal of picks(combo of this year and next) and move up to grab a DE. Then, do it again in the 20-25 spot range for the best DL still on the board.

Crazy? Maybe. Especially considering the many needs I know the team has. Here's my thinking: The offense struggled for years, no matter the talent on the team. Once a good OL came, the offense clicked! This has been proven time and time again on many teams.

Same goes for Defense. Get a solid DL, and many weaknesses become much less of a weakness.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I'm a big believer of winning games with superior lines.

Who qualifies as a rookie in April pre-draft?

Even IF that is true he still seems like a ####ty human being to me, so i cannot get upset that i have to be torn between wanting him to to good and thinking he's a despicable human. But i also read that he has not bonded well with the D-line....all rumors at this point

ALSO i'll wager he hears woman beater comments all the time now, he may as well get used to them

I just am not going to pull for this guy

and if they trade for Peterson i am not going to pull for this team, despite being a life long fan

I'm actually happy he's suspended. It saves us money and we still get him for what we hope is the stretch run and playoffs.

Works out perfect I think.

Davon Coleman, undrafted free agent rookie last year, was cut, then added to practice squad. He's a clown, a goof, a joker (was in college), and I'm pretty sure he won't make the active roster or practice squad this coming season. Hardy got on him to work harder. He called Hardy a woman beater. Obviously this escalated, but reportedly just verbally. I cannot find any information regarding team leaders supporting Greg (Bankerguy?).

from fans, from opponents, and maybe from pissed off teammates

I liked this post, Hastur, but I don't think they have the fire power to do that. On the other hand similar can be accomplished by moving back rather than forward. The more I look at last season and the current roster the more I think DL is the biggest need.

He's going to have to act like a grown up. I think my last post about DL being the biggest need explains why he's in Dallas. I wish he wasn't, but let's hope for the best.

Bankerguy says team leaders supported him as a good mate, you report rumors of him not getting on well with the guys. I cannot find one word about these things. I'm interested. Links?

I'll take a stab.

Draft needs: CB, RB, DT, DE, WR, S

27. Malcom Brown - DT - Texas I think Waynes, Johnson, and Peters are all gone at this point. Alot of teams need CB.

60. PJ Williams - CB - Florida St I also like Quinten Rollins here but I think PJ Williams will be more pro-ready.

91. Ameer Abdullah - RB - Nebraska Great value if he lasts this long. Outside of Gurley, I think alot of people are overestimating how high alot of these RB's will be drafted.
127. Anthony Harris - S - Virginia Can play deep or in run support. Another pro-ready player.
163. Justin Hardy - WR - E. Carolina Looking ahead to the mess that will be contract negotiations with Dez. This guy was an uber-productive route runner.
236. Sean Mannion - QB, Oregon St I like Mannion here but not sure if he lasts until this pick.
243. Mike Reilly - DE/OLB - W&M Taking a shot here. Who knows who's going to be available in the 7th. He's got a great motor. High effort player.

Mincey and Witten have both come out saying he has been nothing but a good team mate so far. I am too lazy to get links...I read it though for sure.

I like it except I think we go DE not DT in the 1st. We have DT depth now and really need DE's.

Other than that, it looks very good.

Yeah ... i was thinking the same thing. I just have a feeling about Brown dropping and he's great value there. And he's a Texas boy. I didn't like what I was seeing left at DE at 27. Although, with the news on Shane Ray, he may drop. I don't think he'll get past the Boys at 27.

Dallas has used a 1st round pick on a player they had for an official visit every year since Ware was drafted in 05 with the exception of the big move up for Claiborne.Teams get 30 visits. Dallas used theirs to spend time with 6 cbs, 6 des, 5 lbs, 5 rbs, 3 wrs, 2 ols, and 1 dt. 5 of the 6 cbs are potential 1st round talents. 3 of the 6 des. 2 of the 5 lbs. 2 of the 5 rbs. 1 of the 3 wrs and the dt. So my guess is their first pick is one of these 14 players.

Kevin Johnson

Marcus Peters

Byron Jones

Jalen Collins

PJ Williams

Bud Dupree

Eli Harold

Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Shaq Thompson

Eric Kendricks

Todd Gurley

Melvin Gordon

Dorial Green-Beckham

Bigger need is on D, but IMO I can't see how you pass on Gurley or Gordon if available.

OR if one of them is available, you may be able to get a nice return on a trade for a team who really wants.

I see very little chance either back is available at 27. I am against trading up for either.
I avoided the "our team" threads for a long long time because the ##tching and moaning was so annoying to me. I hope we can all agree this team is close and moving in the right direction (just stay healthy and find a couple solid contributors). I think a big part of that is finally getting their heads right on the draft. They may do something I would never do tomorrow, and if that's the case they get the benefit of the doubt from me. They've earned it.

One of my favorite football minds has made the case (on twitter) that this draft is so weak at the top perhaps moving up may be cheap tomorrow. Teams may have an unusual willingness to move down. I love a half dozen players in this draft and see them as can't miss prospects. Gurley is one. If they moved up for him, I'd bite my tongue and be pretty damned thrilled to have him aboard. If it's Gordon, I'll just bite my tongue and hope for the best.

I'm to the point of trading back into the 2nd.
I've liked that idea ever since I started looking at the perceived equality of talent that runs from pick 20 or so through pick 50-60, and then the next tier is also deep and possibly running into the 4th. Like every year it will be hit and miss, and I suspect all this depth may be an indication of a weaker than expected draft, but more picks in the top 100 seem like a good idea.
