Official 2015 Cowboys Thread- 4-12. We won the 4th pick! (1 Viewer)

Dallas has used a 1st round pick on a player they had for an official visit every year since Ware was drafted in 05 with the exception of the big move up for Claiborne.Teams get 30 visits. Dallas used theirs to spend time with 6 cbs, 6 des, 5 lbs, 5 rbs, 3 wrs, 2 ols, and 1 dt. 5 of the 6 cbs are potential 1st round talents. 3 of the 6 des. 2 of the 5 lbs. 2 of the 5 rbs. 1 of the 3 wrs and the dt. So my guess is their first pick is one of these 14 players.

Kevin Johnson

Marcus Peters

Byron Jones

Jalen Collins

PJ Williams

Bud Dupree

Eli Harold

Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Shaq Thompson

Eric Kendricks

Todd Gurley

Melvin Gordon

Dorial Green-Beckham

Carl Davis
Great point about the visits. I hadn't thought about that angle. However, 27th is the latest the Cowboys have picked in that time frame you are referencing.

I would be shocked if the following players were still available at #27:

Marcus Peters

Kevin Johnson

Bud Dupree

Tod Gurley

I consider the following players to be quite a stretch to take in the first round:

Byron Jones

PJ Williams

Eli Harold

Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Shaq Thompson

Eric Kendricks

Dorial Green-Beckham

Carl Davis

So that leaves:

Jalen Collins

Melvin Gordon

I don't see them going RB in the first round unless Gurley somehow falls to them or within range to trade up for him.

There's a very good chance Philly takes Collins at #20 if they don't trade up for Mariota.

If the cowboys are left with a choice between Melvin Gordon and Malcom Brown, I'm really hoping they choose Brown.

Dallas has telegraphed a lot of draft picks. I'd be surprised if Brown is on their radar given the number of cbs, des, lbs, and rbs they invited to town. I would expect them to take Gordon given the cards they've shown, but I too would prefer Brown (who also might be long gone). Tomorrow will not follow prevailing media logic on several players. It rarely does, so we have less an idea about grades than we think.

I don't expect Dallas to pick at 27. I have a hunch they want to move up for a pass rusher if they can and might for a corner if one gets close. On the other hand, according to the Peter King several teams are looking to move up to the back of round 1. Dallas could pick up a pick or two by moving down.

Fwiw, I expect them to draft Ty Montgomery as a replacement for Dwayne Harris. He might be part of why they'd take a picks package. It's also possible they could get a crappy team's '16 first rounder by moving back. That might be brilliant.

I'm a fan of this move if there is nothing at 27 worth taking. Another thing to keep an eye on is how far Shane Ray drops after his arrest. If he drops to them, I could definitely see them scarfing him up.

If I were to bet, more likely we move up then down.
That's definitely another way to go. I believe the cowboys are one of the few teams that are only a couple players away from being a super bowl team. Trading up could land us one of those players.

I think we stay pat and let the fallers come to us i.e Gregory or Ray.

If they are gone, then I think we trade back to 2(1) with Tenn. and pickup their 4th

OR

trade back with TB,JAX,Chicago or any of the other teams in the early second round.

I think they'll be a lot of players in the mid second that could yield a great player AND another pick or two.

If Gregory and/or Ray fall to the early twenties would you want Dallas to give up their 3rd to move up ?
Oh...I agree 100%.BUT...everyone mid to late is looking to trade down. There actually might be decreased prices to move up.

IF we do...its for Gordon. I just cant see it though.

Oops...meant quote Big Daves reply

I agree with how you see it possibly playing out but just hope it isn't Gordon. Someone so similar can be had so much later. I'm okay with them moving up or down (prefer down for the extra at bats), but one way to look at it is: There seems to be a mid-round one end of top graded talent, so moving into that tier makes sense if they've vetted someone they are certain will produce. Likewise the next tier seems to go on and on so going down for an extra pick makes sense too. Happy Draftmas!

If multiple teams with picks in the low 30s really want to trade into the 1st, as is being reported, it sounds like music to Cowboys' ears.

I really feel like Gordon is Felix Jones and I'm terrified of Gurley's knee and how he injured it so effortlessly.

I want OL ,DL or CB.

Almost always in that order

I was thinking the same thing last time I posted. I like your priorities, almost always in that order. More importantly, I don't care what position they draft. I just care that they get a serious contributor. He could come play anywhere. If he's starting, and he's good, it was a good pick. Such a high percentage miss.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I heard Cincy trade rumors to move up, give up a 3 to get Johnson. Does that make sense to anyone?

Other than maybe body type, are Jones and Gordon similar at all? One guy was a part time player who's game was based almost soley around his his straight line speed, while the other was a workhorse runner with limited straight-line speed that got his yardage in other ways.

If anything, Gordon seems very similar to DeMarco Murray in both body type and running style.

We took Felix with Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, Ray Rice, and Jamaal Charles available. I hated that they could have waited. Feel strongly about it again this year though I agree Gordon has lower bust potential than Felix did. I sure remember a lot of celebrating Dallas fans here who thought Felix was a great pick. I hated it then and said so until I was tired of sayin it. Wait for an RB this weekend, please.

I want defense in the first and second. RB is fine in 3rd or 4th.

Hearing we love Yeldon. Nick Sabban/Red connection?

Id love to add him late. a big bruiser like that who can catch. Would be nice to have a Brandon Jacobs to shove down the Giants throats in the 4th quarter.

High fives with Carolina on the clock.....they might just know what the other team are doing.

Byron Jones come on down.

Love the pick.

Size, high character, athletic, will tackle. A little stiff, but he is tall and coming off shoulder surgery.
