Official 2015 Cowboys Thread- 4-12. We won the 4th pick! (2 Viewers)

Gonna be Chaz Green OT I hear
I'm fine with this. He's a smart player with great feet and plenty of power. I hated losing Parnell, so here's Free's understudy. I'm at a loss with TJ Clemmings fall, but I guess the medical issues are way worse than I thought. I like OLs. They make RBs look good.
Another Captain....very well spoken and smart. I want to watch some game stuff before I pass judgement.

I've watched that OL a ton. He has some issues in both run and pass blocking but he is coachable and has the athleticism to be a solid RT. They were high fiving because they got their guy. Like I said yesterday, they get the benefit of the doubt from me. Nagging injuries have held him back or he would have been more talked about.

Any rumors out there about the Cowboys looking into trading a pick for a RB that might be available? Someone like Stacey or Martin?

NFL.com:

Gregory, who had a "heart to heart" conversation with Jones for about 40 minutes, also discussed taking marijuana for anxiety, saying "Hopefully (pro football) will be so much fun I won't even have to go down that road."
:lmao:

Loving this draft so far. Chaz Green was much needed as any injury to Free or Smith would be catastrophic. Any chance at a Super Bowl or even playoffs will require Romo to be healthy and thinking long term with his contract Dallas needs to maximize his career by making Oline the #1 priority

He's a character. Quotes were all over twitter for awhile after the pick. I'm thinking he's bipolar.

Who has more character: Gregory, Hardy, or the dude that clocked Hardy in the off season workout?

i'm just pissed they never found the video of Dez Bryant in the Wallmart parking lot. Funny thing is, he is probably one of the most normal guys on that team

Is Jerry Jones mentally delayed? the way this letter is written, i would really think it is by a 3rd, maybe 4th grader? This is actually a somewhat serious question, the way this letter is written I actually am kind of surprised it isn't in crayon:

STELLLLLLLA......I mean SAMMMMMIE......lol at ur team...get out of here and defend that mess of a non championship team you root for in your bird thread....Bradford and butt fumble...lol...run forest run...LOL

This is a must watch for all Cowboy fans. This dispelled most if not all of my on the field concerns in Gregory's game. https://youtu.be/S8AdCCOD4iw

Apparently, Gregory has admitted he struggles with anxiety and used to help him deal with this. Also, during his visit to Valley Ranch he requested to have the Dez rules that Jerry implemented to help Dez develop off the field as a man.

Gotta say, the day after I am super pumped about Gregory. Think about this. Sam Bradford comes to the line and we show heat on the LOS:

Gregory, Lawrence Mincey, Crawford and Hardy. Oooofff. Good luck blocking that.

OK...Shaz Green.

This pick reminds me a lot of the Frederick selection. When you watch game footage you like what you see. In his case, I saw great feet and well suited to our ZBS. Strong blocker and moves his man on a regular basis. Does struggle against speed rushers and has a history of injury.

Much like the Frederick pick, I really like the player, but on the surface it appears too early. Hopefully they hit as well as they did with Travis.

Scratch Langford.
There are likely no backs available better than what Dallas has. Jerry was clear in a link I posted that they may not draft an RB. Who was worth Jones in the first? Gregory in the 2nd? Green in the 3rd. At each point, I prefer their choice to any available back. Dallas has better backs than you think and much more needier areas to solidify. I want that DT next. Fingers crossed for a half dozen guys.

Michael Bennett still sitting there.

If Ajayi falls to the 5th rounder he worth it even if it's a four-five year rental? I'd feel like yes, especially for whatever he might provide year 1 and 2 while we're making a push.

TBH...that's exactly what me and my publicist would say if I'd done something as stupid as fail a drug test at the combine. But, as somebody else said on this board awhile ago, the front office has drafted well enough the last several years to earn the benefit of the doubt from me. Obviously he's fantastic value at the spot he was picked.

Despite his haters, whatever the Cowboys did with Dez turned him into the best WR in the league. They obviously have precedent dealing with situations like this. Garrett can turn him into the "right kind of guy".

Excellent draft so far. Interesting to me to see the rest of the NFC East copy Dallas in building up the offensive lines. Nice to be on the right side of the copycat for a while.

still there...

Love the picks for the D side of the ball. If we were not going RB early then this is what we needed to do. We'll see if they pan out. At least we're not drafting unneeded positions like in the past.

You mean the year we "improved the bottom of half of our team"?

Overall I'm really happy with the draft too hopefully we can get a strong D together. Any UDFA RBs of interest? I'm sure Dallas would be one of the top choices for most RBs that are still around.

Thanks for that link. Some pretty solid and positive scouting there. I watched and read as many interviews as I could find. I like the current one at the team site with Broaddus. I'm more concerned about how light he is than the character issue at this point. And I'm not that concerned about that. I'm also pumped for this pick. Man, there's some plays on tape that remind me of... lawrencetaylor.

The picks today left me a little nonplussed, but Garrett keeps preaching discipline and their draft board so be it. It's not that I dislike the picks, it's just that I know little about them, while there were guys I really liked available. I'm surprised they didn't pick a speed guy for return duties. Maybe Dunbar is that guy and another reason why they didn't take an RB (keeping the 4 they have). I suspect quite a few UDFA RBs and WRs will have a preference for Dallas, so... we'll see.

Here is my final Cowboys mock prior to the draft. It will be 7 rounds and I mock what I think the team will do, not what I would do. I will also not factor ADP into this. Let's assume the price is too steep and we pass.

Draft needs: CB, RB, DT, DE, WR, S

27. Kevin Johnson - CB, Wake Forest Fits a need and BPA.

60. Damarious Randall - Safety, Arizona Could be steal o the draft

91. TJ Yeldon - RB, Alabama I don't buy all these RB's going as high as everyone thinks. TJ, compliments McFadden.

127. Taiwon Jones - LB, Michigan St Very under rated prospect

163. Jalston Fowler - FB, Alabama Nick Saban connection to Red. Upgrade over Clutts.

236. Sean Mannion - QB, Oregon St Dallas take a flier on a falling QB.

243. Kyle Loomis - P, Portland State Chris Jones was terrible last year.CoupIe highly doubt Randall lasts till pick 60
A few things -

If the edge rushers Pittsburgh wants are gone then I think Kevin Johnson would be their pick. --- picked at 16. If Dupree was not on the board at 22 Pittsburgh would have drafted Bryon Jones.

I doubt Randall makes it to pick 60. - picked at 30 - I knew he was rising up the boards fast but I never saw him making it to the first round.

I expect a RB run in the mid to late second round lasting into the top of the third round. Yeldon should go somewhere toward the end of that run. -- picked round 2 fourth pick. Just about a round earlier than I thought he would go.

Mannion is usually ranked as the 6th QB in this draft. I think he will be gone long before pick 236. -- picked round 3 pick 25.25

I guess as a mere fan we have to give the guys who get paid to do this the benefit of the doubt but as said fan, I'm satisfied but far from thrilled about this draft.

Byron Jones is a great second option and hopefully is as advertised but without pressure on the QB, it doesn't matter how talented your secondary is, they're hung out to dry.

Gregory in the second. I'm happy they rolled the dice on him but not optimistic at all that it pays off. The guy goes so hard, his highlight films exhausts me from my computer chair. There's no questioning what he can be, but how ill do you have to be to not be able to put down the bong at least long enough to sign your multi-million dollar contract? Is there another moment in this young man's immediate future that could possibly motivate him more to get clean? What happens after he signs a contract if it even gets that far?

Chaz Green in the third- BIG reach at minimum. I've read he was projected to go higher than his 5th-6th round projection but outside of drafting him too early, I'm just shocked they are more worried about replacing Parnell (who sucked by the way) than replacing the league's leading rusher. This reeks of Jerry/Arkansas/McFadden/AL Davis/ delusion.

Beyond that, I would have loved to see them be proactive and think about taking a understudy for either the aging Romo or Witten somewhere along the way so we don't have to enter rebuilding hell like we did after Aikman retired.

I'm impressed and content with the first two picks. Who would you rather they take in those spots? Seems to me with picks 27 and 60 they potentially have the best DB and the best pass rusher in the draft. Two huge areas of need addressed with what has a good likelihood of being best available player picks. Beautiful. No team used their picks better. Some tied with equally excellent choices.

Parnell was a beast last year. He started 7 games and 2 playoff games and if anything the line got stronger. He faced tougher competition than Free and still had a higher rating at PFF. He was a huge part of the reason they ran the ball so well. Every team needs depth on the OL, especially a swing tackle like the two they drafted.

As for Romo and Witten understudies, it is a bad year for both positions. These awful tight ends were a running joke in college DFS all last season. Weeden, who I really don't care for, will have to do for another season. Picks on understudies would have been very expensive Friday or wasted picks, imo.

Time will tell. It could have been sexier today. Sometimes that's not a good thing. I can't see a reason to be negative.

On a positive note, I know I mentioned believing they would ad Ty Montgomery to replace Harris in this draft. In the draft thread I mentioned liking Antwan Goodley better. He's signed as a udfa.
