All due respect, I was outraged before when we first heard the story. I was mortified that the Cowboys would sign this guy and further infuriated over the idea he might get an extension. Then the pictures came out, Holder bruised up everywhere, clearly the victim of the very vicious assault described in the court of law that found Hardy guilty of inflicting this punishment. I had not seen the pictures until today and they are terrifying. No less mortified, terrified, outraged than I was day one...its just contextualized and made vividly real this is a defenseless human being he beat up.

The Cowboys spin team is doing its best to resolve the cognitive dissonance for many of us who root for laundry but are disgusted by the man wearing 76. Others on this thread who look the other way or condone violence toward women or use awful, disgusting rationale that "women are crazy" and sometimes deserve a good beat down...these are people who should be exposed for what they really are. You sound like one of them, so I am glad to know now where you stand, as it invalidates pretty much anything else you have to say, and you can be the target of society to help educate around those Neanderthal views you and mobbin support. Failure to do so is enabling the enablers that perpetuate violence toward women.

I think it's because one camp is outraged, whereas another camp seems indifferent or hasn't seen the pictures, or still clings to the belief that it wasn't Hardy who beat her up, or believes "women are crazy." Personally, I do believe people's minds can change through dialogue and confronting their established beliefs. Perhaps folks like steadymobbin will reconsider their opinions of women, of men who beat women, of teams who employ/reward men who beat women. Or maybe he, and others like him, will at least reconsider how they communicate what they think and recognize a discussion about a player who beat up a woman is probably not the best time to describe women--as if to generalize all women--as "crazy" and deserving abuse. That's a simple hope and rationale for why we discuss ugly, uncomfortable topics on forums.

The other reason is to generate some momentum in doing exactly what you described and talking with our pocketbooks, along with our keyboards. I cancelled my season tickets yesterday. Been a long-time fan and fortunate enough to own those seats since the old Texas Stadium. I wish I had the presence of mind to cancel them when the team signed Hardy in the first place. But, I'll admit, I was unaware of the gravity of what he had done (or resolved my cognitive dissonance by not paying close enough attention) until yesterday and seeing the pictures. But, at the point those pictures came out, I called a buddy who co-owns the seats with me, and we agreed to release them. Had a pleasant, but forceful discussion with the ticket office, letting them know why we were cancelling, and that was that. More can, and I feel should try, to do the same, as you suggested. But, any vehicle to get this discussion out in the open, help shape opinions and sensibilities of those who enable this sort of behavior, whether at home or with the teams they root for, should be encouraged, not discouraged.

I've been a Cowboys fan since I was 5. When they were rumored to be interested in Peterson I was really disappointed. When they signed Hardy, I was equally disappointed. When I saw the pictures yesterday, I was disgusted. After reading Jerry's statement, I am pissed.

It's unfathomable that he would continue to act like this is no big deal. When all you have is a differing opinion on what happened and then a settlement makes the case go away, it's easy to think that it might not have been that bad. When you see the pictures and realize that he beat the living #### out of her, that's no longer possible.

Not really sure where to go from here as a fan of the team and many of the players, but I do know that I'm not really interested in watching the game tomorrow.

I commend you sir. No one expects Cowboy fans to stop being Cowboy fans. But to hear so many of them act like they don't care that their team's owner is talking this thug up like he's a leader and a great guy is just sickening. it's funny because i hate the Cowboys with a passion, but totally feel you here. When the Eagles picked up Vick i was feeling the same way, and definitely was less interested while he was here. I don't understand why it's the NFL's job to be the moral compass of the world. What is changed in the world by Hardy being employed vs unemployed?

Is it at all possible or realistic that one of the high character guys on the team would be bold enough to publicly voice their displeasure? I'm given to understand that Jason Witten is very involved in fighting domestic violence. Might he say something like "no locker room has 53 boy scouts, but there's a line you don't cross. He was convicted, then they settled during the appeal process. Who are you to judge how she deals with his abuse? Would you rather have him in jail for 90 days or enough money to afford the treatment that will surely be needed after being involved with a guy like that?
