*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (2 Viewers)

I guess we'll be cheering for the Oregon Eagles. Not sure if this is a good thing. Alonso coming back from a torn ACL. Help me find the light in this.
I'm struggling to find the positives n this trade
You unloaded a RB who was a cut candidate because of his dumb contract for a very good young lb with cheap years left on his contract.
You forgot to throw in "top three" in front of RB and "coming off an ACL tear" after lb
Are ACL tears all of a sudden a problem for football players again? He'll be fine.

McCoy didn't look that good last year and is only getting older. His contract was ridiculous.

I like the trade but I understand why people don't.

To me though......... Alonso hopefully will be contending for Pro Bowls LONG after Shady is retired.

Most of the smarter teams around the league are going cheap at RB, it''s because a good o-line/offense can make an average RB productive. And there's so many decent backs out there. It just makes sense to spend the cap space at more important positions where depth league-wide isn't nearly as strong.

I'd sign Spiller if he came relatively cheap or just draft a new RB.

@Jeff_McLane: Kiko Alonso has had two torn ACLs in his career -- in his right knee in 2010 at Oregon. In his left knee last year with the Bills.

Mosher confirming: I can now confirm, from an NFL source, that the McCoy-Alonso trade first reported by @AdamSchefter will happen.

8:43pm - 3 Mar 15

I know that we are all focused on defense in free agency.

But any thought on Stefen Wisniewski? He should come reasonably priced and adds a good young piece to the online with versatility. Plug him in at Guard & now we have 3/5ths of our line is young.

I'm down.

@lawlornfl: My quick take on the Shady trade. http://t.co/IFKtQ5BRbl

Shady Trade

Shady for Kiko Alonso. Wow.

Im behind schedule due to a long day at work so this is going to be my instant analysis.

The move by itself may seem crazy. You deal a superstar RB for a very good young ILB, albeit one coming off a torn ACL. But the move in context might prove to be great.

The Eagles add cap space. That could be significant it the team wants to be very active in free agency. The secondary was a mess last year. The Eagles could try to fix that with some star additions. Being in active in free agency would give the team freedom in the draftin case they want to trade up for someonelike a star QB that Chip Kelly recruited and developed.

The move also helps the defense. Kelly can work his magic on an offense, but the defense needs talent. Alonso is a poor mans Luke Kuechly. He has range and instincts. He immediately makes the middle of the field less vulnerable, especially on pass plays.

I know some are going to hate (HATE) this deal. The funny thing is that my buddies that are Bills fans are not happy at all. They appreciate Shadys talent, but prefer the stud LB to the RB with some wear and tear.

Nothing is official yet, but this is interesting. Word from CJ Spiller, who was making an appearance on the NFL Network.

[McGinest] walked in and said, Did yall hear that Kikos getting traded to the Eagles for Shady? Spiller said. And to me, I thought he was joking, like just trying to play a joke on me, because hes a Patriot, and I was a former Bill.

But then, he put it on TV, and I seen it, and then probably about five minutes later, management called me and told me that they (were) going in that direction, and pretty much giving me a Thank you for your services.

@EliotShorrParks: Buffalo Bills come to the Linc next season. Return of LeSean. Just like season after getting rid of Dawk, McNabb, TO, DeSean, each returned

I think we're going to need to temper expectations this coming year. We're going to have a LOT of new faces, I don't think expecting them to gel and get the program instantly is reasonable. Wouldn't be surprised at all if we start out slow.

Well if we have Foles, we'll probably go 11-5, 12-4 provided he stays healthy. With Mariota, I'd say we're more around the 8-8 9-7 realm just because rookies don't click like that. Yea he knows the offense but he's never seen NFL defenses.

I like the trade. I will also like it if they choose not resign Maclin as well. Remember, these guys went 4-12 before Chip got here.

Essentially they cut Alonso and signed McCoy to a $10M contract. No way to frame it as a good deal for them (other than name value).
And basically we cut Mccoy and signed Alonso to a cheap contract. Pretty good for us.

I'm not so sure. I think Chip has a good way of getting everyone together and playing as a team. I think Chip getting a bunch of new faces, talented players, he'll find a way to get that team culture rolling much quicker then Andy did.

CJ sounded like he was interested in coming to Philly during his NFLN interview tonight. They kept asking him about going to Philly and he said he was gonna go study their tape ASAP. Seems like a no brainer. I was hoping we signed him even before Shady was traded. With him gone, and a Shifty Sproles and Pounding Polk, CJ would be an awesome option. How much would he cost?

Meanwhile on Maclin:

McClane: Updated info on Maclin: Deal was close for some time, not as close recently and he's getting nibbles. #Eagles have to up ante w/ McCoy leak.

11:08pm - 3 Mar 15

Word is Dolphins have called offering Dion Jordan for Fletcher Cox. Chip considering...

Brandon Boykin @BrandonBoykin2 Follow

Bruh don't ask me anything cause I don't know anything.. I'm just a #nickel..

Yea - this kid is gonna jet if we don't start him this year.

QB: Foles (or MM)
RB: Spiller+Polk+Sproles
WR: Maclin+JMathews+(Crabtree/Torey Smith/Cooper)
TE: Ertz (Depth: Celek)
OL: Peters+Mathis+Kelce+Tobin+Johnson (Depth- Draft)

LB: Kiko+Kendricks+Graham+Barwin (Depth- M. Smith)
CB: Maxwell+Revis (Depth- Boykin.. draft?)

S: Wolf+Jenkins (Depth- Draft)

DL: Thornton+Logan+Cox (Depth- Curry/Allen/Draft)

Can it be done cap-wise?

I think y'all will sign Texans CB Kareem Jackson to fill one of the starting positions. Just my opinion. Seems like Chip loves his Texans, just not quite as much as his Ducks.

Toasts morning shake to improved defense and interchangeable, less $ RBs.

But I'll be pouring out my shake if chip spends the next few drafts on MM. So much talent coming into the league to forgo.

Edit - my morning shake is coffee.

McCoy wasn't the same player last year. He just didn't seem to enjoy playing for Chip. Never heard him being a great locker room guy either.

Going to miss his talent as he was a special player at one time. But this was a smart move.

I'm all in on MM !!! Go Eagles!!!

After sleeping on it for a night (I was intitially pissed) I see it as a good move. McCoy is 27 and maybe has another two good years left before he falls off the cliff. More cap space for what seems to be a very active FA period for the Eagles coming. As far as what this shows for Chip's plan for the NFL draft is, anything could happen. But all signs now seem ot be pointing to going after Mariota, which I still don't think is a good idea.

I'd say Cobb but is he a #1? And wouldn't he cost more than Maclin? I don't know about this one.
Not sure I would count on him being a number 1, would LOVE to have him lined up opposite Maclin though, but that's obvious. I'm thinking he gets a little less than Maclin, in the 5-7m a year range.

He keeps running out Cooper and wanted Matthews in the 1st last season. If you are not big or dont play big than he doesnt seem to want you at WR. With that said I know very little about Cobb other than a game here and there but his #'s look like he does play big. I initially thought Torrey Smith was a good add but he may not be what we're looking for. This years WR class has a lot of big guys too so that may be the route he goes. I'd honestly like to see us add a guy like Julius Thomas.

If we just cut McCoy would you still feel this way? It seems like they were just going to release him and were just going through the motions until they found someone who was interested. The same would have happened with Jackson last year IMO.

Trading up for Mariotta and giving a ton would be a bad move especialy when we are adding need after need with every passing day it seems. Right now we need like 3 DB's, 2 OLB's, OL (maybe a starter?), a WR and a RB. Some will be addressed in FA for sure but we're going to need picks as well. This trade with McCoy comes off as smart, wheras the Mariotta one would come off as stupid IMO.

He's getting more than Maclin IMO...probably a LOT more
Wow you might be right. Thought his $ would be tempered because I thought it was his first contract after his rookie deal, but I just seen he's expecting more than the 8-9m the Pack is offering. Gonna pass on that amount, geez.

Well you hope Marcus Smith will fill one of the OLB spots. At least two UFA will be DBs. Tobin and Barbre are more than fine to replace Herremans. Maclin should be re-signed. RB might be the most easily filled position in football.

Shady is pissed. Apparently Buffalo can still pull out of this deal, which worries me. Would hate to have him back now.
