this is the thing. It's not like franchise quarterbacks are easy to acquire. Short of tanking and winning one game or two all season, you aren't getting one in the draft unless you get lucky and find a diamond in the rough. And once a team has won, they're not parting with him.This is why I had no problem whatsoever with chip going after Bradford. He had potential to be a franchise quarterback. And we certainly didn't have one on the current roster. It doesn't look like he's going to turn out to be the savior, but I bet he's better than anyone that will be available in the offseason.

More immediately, I think Thursday's game is going to be interesting. Well, interesting in a potential trainwreck sort of way.
In some twisted way, I think the schedule might actually work in the Eagles' favor.
If you're embarrassed or angry about yesterday, better to go play and get it out of your system. On National TV no less.
None of the pressures of playing at home and it's not like the Lions at 12:30 on Thanksgiving is the most intimidating road venue.
If on the other hand, you really don't buy into Chip's system and just want out, no better excuse than a short week to just pack it in.
I think for most of the players it will be the former, but this week's game could be very telling.

Unfortunately, this isn't likely to happen. More likely is the Eagles win a couple games as a road dog, teasing us with the potential. They'll probably go into week 17 with a chance to take the division at 8-8.
To me, that just makes everything so much worse, because we'll be wanting to cheer for them even knowing it just means an even lower draft pick. It's a worst case scenario

ETA - This is exactly how I feel watching the team. Missed a FG v. MIA and the team. just. went. dead. Lifeless and no energy. Yesterday, much more of the same. Undisciplined, making stupid penalties weekly. Mental miscues on snaps, formations. Drops. Blown defensive assignments. Offensive personnel not on the same page.They are not prepared. They do not play hard. That starts at the top of the food chain, mixed into a protein-packed ginseng peanut breakfast smoothie tracked on your fit bit.

Chip can't stand players with Kaepernick's personality/attitude. I just can't see him bringing in a guy to be the face of the franchise who wears straight-brimmed caps and Dr. Dre earphones around his neck at a press conference.
Plus, you're right. All Kaep can do is run. He can't read defenses ands can't pass for any accuracy. People would be begging for Bradford back. KAep was the worst QB in the league this year. And it wasn't close.

All I'm saying is when Kelly looked at the guy who ran his system the best so far in the NFL and said, nah that's not good enough. I need better. He went out and got a supposedly more talented and more accurate passer. So far that hasn't been the case. We can blame WRs and Oline but ultimately, you don't slow the offense down and limit the playbook if the QB is getting it. He isn't getting it and Chip is seeing his window closing.
I think in his desperate state, he does something stupid like trade a 3rd or 5th round pick to SF for Kaep this off season.

Billy Davis: ‘The Whole Thing Was Awful’ By Adam Hermann |
Billy Davis’ eyes, big and glassy, told the story after the Eagles’ 45-17 thrashing at the hands of the Buccaneers today.
“Awful,” Davis said after the game, surrounded by a horde of reporters with more questions than he could answer. “All day. Starting with me. The whole thing was awful.”
Tampa Bay piled up an astounding 521 yards on Davis' defense, the third-most yards allowed by the Eagles since Davis was hired as Chip Kelly's defensive coordinator in 2013.
Doug Martin rushed for the second-most yards by an opposing running back in Eagles franchise history, picking up 235 yards on 27 carries, devouring the Birds' vaunted defensive line. Rookie quarterback Jameis Winston completed 19 of 29 passes for 246 yards and five touchdowns, shredding Davis' secondary.
"There's not one spot [that played well]," Davis said. "There's no starting spot, there's no ending spot. A game like that, that comes out of nowhere and is that bad for us defensively, starts with me, and it's on me, but there's enough blame to go around for everybody.
"We didn't do anything well today, starting with coaching. So this is one that, we have to give [Tampa Bay] the credit, we have to move on, and we have to go play Detroit. Really. We didn't stop the run, and five touchdown passes. There's no excuses for anybody. Awful day."
The Eagles had allowed more yards and more points since Davis arrived, but he said after the game that this was the worst game he's coached in 43 games as the Eagles' defensive coordinator.
"Yeah, this is it," Davis admitted. "This is it. We didn't do anything well today. I didn't call it well, I didn't prepare them well. Whatever you want to say, as a collective unit, it just shows out there. The scoreboard shows the game. Everybody saw it."
This was an Eagles' front seven that prided itself on stopping the run heading into the season, squashing teams last year with a combination of All-Pro-level talent in Fletcher Cox and Bennie Logan.
This Eagles defense entered the game as one of the most potent turnover-generating teams in the league, taking the ball away from their opponents 20 times in its first nine games.
On Sunday, none of that mattered as Martin, Winston and the Bucs ran right over Davis' unit.
"It's tough," Davis said. "We've got a bunch of real prideful men in there, and they're real pissed off about the way we played, and it starts with me.
"A game like that will shake your confidence, and that's our biggest enemy right now. We've got to make sure that doesn't destroy us. We've got to make sure this thing gets fixed, and it was a one-game thing. And that's a challenge right now, to make sure this was a one-game thing."
But Davis asserted time and again that the defense will move past this loss, that it won't sink their ship, and that Thursday against Detroit is a good chance to get the horrid taste out of their mouth.
"We have to collectively hang together, get it right, get it fixed, and move on to Detroit, and get a win there," Davis said. "As competitors, mature competitors, you've got to move on. You've got to put it behind you, find out what you did it wrong, why you did it wrong, and not repeat the mistake. That's they key right now, not repeating that performance."
It's unlikely the Eagles will allow back-to-back 230-yard rushers. But bouncing back is also easier said than done, and the onus will fall squarely on Davis and his players if they can't show improvement against Detroit come Thursday afternoon.

Foolish enough to think that we beat Detroit, and largely because IMO it's a blessing to get right back out there immediately Thursday and get the taste out of our collective mouths.
Three way tie PHI/WAS/NYG at 5-6 in t-minus 6 days, right? On the one hand, a fire lit under this team after an extreme embarrassment, right? They come out physical, tough and angry and run the ball down Detroit's throat, etc.
On the other hand, we've cratered and play out the season as lifeless husks wearing green laundry.
Turning point again. Utter disbelief that they still could be tied for 1st with 5 to play. This team would be a laughable playoff entry at the point, no matter how it plays out, and really needs a hard reset.

I agree and I think that's what's hurt us since moving on from McFlabb. Usually you go through 3-4 years of sucking but acquiring significant talent with high draft picks. We have stayed relevant through finding Vick and then Chip's system I believe catching teams off guard but now here we are without a lot of top talent on the roster. The good news is in todays game you can turnover a roster pretty quick but we need some talent. Who thought Carolina would be 10-0 you know. Have to have a QB though, and just a couple years ago Cam was getting destroyed by the media.

Thayman, I generally don't like when you post in here, because you are usually trolling, but I can't disagree with this comment. Reading this thread is almost impossible, not because the Eagles are so bad, but a few posters are making it unreadable. At least Redskins fans are civil to each other. A happy Thanksgiving to you sir, and I hope you enjoy a disappointing Eagles performance on Turkey day. I can't see any reason why, right now, it won't be disappointing (for Eagles fans).

I don't think I've ever seen one worse. Replacing Johnson was an impossible task, but we've seen Juan Castillo and Billy Davis since JJ. The short week could get him an extension, but if the defense looks bad this week, and they lose again, firing him would be a way for Chip to act like he's trying to do something about it. And deflecting the heat.

Can't see Kaep going anywhere as a starter. If so it may be to like Cleveland or something. This is just another runner in the long line of "QB's who run the Chip Kelly offense"
I'd says its:
A) Bradford. Unless he has a significant injury. Fact is that he was getting better each week. I know, I know. But he was. I'll be interested to see how he finishes the season
B) Keep Bradford and hit the Draft. I didn't think we'd be bad enough to get a legit shot at a qb. This may be the year and there should be at least 2 top 10 guys.
I don't see a 'C'. He would never go into a season with Sanchez starting. We'd have a better shot at resigning Foles or getting RG3 than Sanchez starting.

I would think C is letting Bradford walk, drafting a QB and letting Sanchez be a placeholder until drafted QB can play, or new QB can play from day 1 and Sanchez is backup again. Sanchez is already under contract next year, so why commit extra money/years to Bradford if he isn't the answer?

Like it or not Bradford will be the best of a crappy bunch this off season. So to keep him they'll have to pony up around $18mil per year. Alex Smith is making $17mil per till 2017. Bradford is getting more than that just for the scarcity. Does Chip really want to double down on a QB he hasn't seen run his offense since the preseason?

Is there any chance that Lurie pushes General Manager Chip (GMC) out and brings in a guy like Polian to redirect this mess? I think I read that he has a consulting company now.

I understand your point but my point would all be predicated on what kind of deal he gets. If he gets a deal similar to Dalton's and Kaep's where its basically year-to-year Im fine with that. You would then have a rookie to step in if/ when he gets hurt or struggles. Or if the rookie shows promise you could cut Bradford after a year. Starting Sanchez does nothing. I believe his deal is very incentive based and could get pretty high too depending on how many starts he has. Not to mention we probably wouldn't win a game he starts.

I don't subscribe to the whole "the D was the only good thing we had this year" thinking.
- Horrible 3rd down conversions allowed
- Couldn't get key stops in game-on-the-line situations against ATL, WSH and DAL
- Too many, mostly dumb, penalties
- Maxwell has been dogged all season, Carroll has sometimes looked over-matched
- I know he doesn't get paid to have soft hands, but Jenkins drops at least one easy pick per game
- Frustrating missed tackles (sometimes because going for the strip, others because they just can't tackle)
- If getting into the backfield on a run but still giving up positive yardage were a stat, we probably lead the league in it
- All 3 "starting" ILBs going into the season have been injured and/or looked lost
- Both OLBs disappear for games at a time
I think we have a few play-makers on D that have impact-causing ability that did just enough to mask how bad the unit is playing and getting out-coached. All of the flaws this defense has been showing this year just all showed up on the same day yesterday.

I saw more variation in what Sam did the past few weeks than what I saw from Sanchez yesterday. Sanchez just doesn't have the arm (as you saw yesterday) to throw certain routes. A ton of them actually
If you just mean the speed of the offense, Sanchez may run the offense faster but I don't think its that big a deal. I believe we were first getting plays off with Sam at QB
It's either 18 million for 2-3 years or what alternative? If its the same as we outlined above you pony the money up.

I believe it was Shah who said it...coming into Sunday we were top 10 in points allowed. Almost every bullet you have points back to coaching IMO

Not comparing to Sanchez. He's better talent wise than Sanchez. Is he good for this offense or just running some kind of offense that Chip has dumbed down? If Chip has to dumb down his offense for a guy, does he want to commit a larger portion of his dwindling cap space towards him?
