*Official 2015 Philadelphia Eagles* - Winning when it doesnt count (3 Viewers)

On Tuesday, the NFL reportedly decided to remove Pete Morelli's refereeing crew from the Sunday Night Football matchup because of egregious errors made in the Week 12 game between the Cardinals and 49ers. The crew was then reassigned to the Eagles' game against the Patriots this Sunday.
Probably figuring it'll be pretty hard for a bad call to make much difference in a 30 point blowout.

Mathews still not back at practice, in the concussion protocol. Going to miss a 3rd straight game. :(

Averaging 105 ypg rushing w/o him. 155 ypg rushing with him.
I think the people screaming that he should have gotten more touches are realizing why he wasn't. He was this way in San Diego too. Awesome runner, but made of crystal.

The only plus is that New England has destroyed almost everyone they've played this year. Unlike Tampa Bay and Detroit. People thought we'd win those games. No one is expecting us to even stay within single digits in this one.
Well, don't say "no one" ... the line opened at Pats -13 on Tuesday morning (after the Gronk news) and has been bid down to -9.5.

Personally I can't believe that people are willing to take less than two scores for this trainwreck of a squad going on the road to face Brady and Belichick, but there ya go.

I'm thinking Brady and Co. are going to be angry after that Denver loss, plus, they need to get their once-lethal passing attack back on track like it was earlier in the year. Facing a Philly defense that has given up 10 TD passes in their last two games, this is like a practice for Brady. A way to get Chandler acquainted to the Gronk role, and to get Amendola and Lafell clicking. 6 TD passes wouldn't shock me. Then again, you have a Philly team who is getting destroyed in every media outlet there is. Maybe they actually rise to the occasion and play a good game? Who knows. I said 34-14 if Gronk doesn't play (which he isn't), but I may have been a little kind to the Eagles with that pick.

Bet $50 on the birds to cover (locked in at -13) and $50 on the over (48.5).

Figure if the Birds don't cover, it's because NE puts up 30-35 and I likely push. This probably happens anyways.

Bradford back, Chip puts him under center and pounds Murray between the tackles. He's effective. This tweak in scheme controls the TOP more and opens up the play action and Matthews/Agholor/Huff get the ball in a position to add YAC. Ertz rips the seam route on the stiff replacing Hightower and a very rusty Jamie Collins at LB. They get a ball to bounce their way and a bad call in their favor. NE can't find room to run as Cox and Logan fill the gaps and Kendricks sweeps up the pieces. Without Brink, the passing game takes a step back. Chandler has poor hands and drops 2-3 passes. LaFell gets blanketed by our high priced CB Maxwell, who by the way, told reporters yesterday he's playing better than he did in Seattle. Sproles makes a play on a punt return.

All this happens, and we cover. 31-23 Pats. :(

I heard about Maxwell saying that. He also said Sam Bradford is the best quarterback in the league. Do they have the same agent or something?

Pretty damning, direct stuff from Phil Sheridan on ESPN:

"The division race appeared to be about the same coming into this season. The Cowboys and the Eagles would compete for the title while Washington and New York played out their schedules in oblivion.

And thats just what Washington and New York are, two oblivious teams with no business being in the conversation about NFC contenders. That was clear Sunday, as the Giants stumbled around the FedEx Stadium Field and blew their tenuous grip on first place in the division.

It may come down to Washington and New York for the division title, but thats not because either team has been particularly good. It is because the Eagles and Cowboys have been epic disappointments.

One of those teams has an excuse. Injuries have cost Dallas the services of quarterback Tony Romo for most of the season. Wide receiver Dez Bryant was also out for a long stretch. While that lets Dallas off the hook a bit, it does nothing but make the Eagles failure this season look even worse.

Their three-game losing streak -- against Miami, Tampa Bay and Detroit -- was only the most dramatic (and most recent) chapter in the Eagles story. The reality is, this Eagles team has been inexcusably out of sync since the beginning of the regular season.

They lost their season opener in Atlanta to a team that has lost five of its last six games.

They lost to Dallas at home thanks to one of the most pathetic offensive performances youll ever see.

They let Washington drive 90 yards for the game-winning touchdown at FedEx Field.

They were thoroughly outclassed by the Carolina Panthers.

An overtime victory against the Romo-less Cowboys got the Eagles to 4-4 and lent credence to the idea that they were still very much alive in the NFC East. And they were, but only because the NFC East was that pathetic.

If the Eagles were anything close to a legitimate contender, they would have beaten Atlanta, Washington, Miami, Tampa Bay and Detroit. OK, lets allow for a poor game here and there. That happens.

The Eagles should have no worse than a 7-4 record. That would have them in first place in the NFC East. Even with tough remaining games against New England (Dec. 6) and Arizona (Dec. 20), the Eagles would be in control of the division race and their own playoff destiny.

Now they are 4-7. Worse, they are coming off two of the worst performances in franchise history. Their losses to Tampa Bay and Detroit, by a combined score of 90-31, have called Kellys entire program into question. They were losses of a kind you only saw in franchise-shaking seasons: 1994, when Rich Kotite lost his last seven games; 1998, when Ray Rhodes final team went 3-13; 2012, when Andy Reids mistakes caught up to him all at once.

They were losses that you would see only when coaches were on their way out the door, losses that forced that door open.

It may be too late for the Eagles to bounce back and win this wretched NFC East title. But there is still time for them to win three or four of their remaining games and remove some of the stench from this horrendous season. There is time for Kelly and his players to leave a more positive impression than they have through their first 11 games.

That shouldnt be that hard, really. It has been a pretty lousy impression."
This guy gets it

Is it normal for concussion symptoms like Ryan Mathews' to last over one month? What's going on with him? And Rotowire now reports he has a pulled hamstring. How do you do that without practicing or playing football?

If there is 1 thing the past 3 weeks have taught us it is to expect the unexpected. Any given Sunday gentleman. We can still host a playoff game and the Gronk is not playing. Rex Ryan was able to make Brady look human and I also hear Tommy Boy might have some anger management issues.

I'm looking forward to the game. Shock the world baby :excited:

I'm smoking that I don't give a ####, if they do good, awesome, if they don't I'll laugh and find something else better to do if the game is a waste of time. Getting all mad like the Philly radio callers or dudes I work with is a total waste of energy to me.
Ok

I think he was joking, but making a point that Mathews has been injury prone all of his career and doesn't need a reason to have a pulled hamstring. Strong wind, perhaps.

We haven't won in New England since 1987 (in OT)

We have NEVER won a game in regulation at New England in history.

I'm sure everyone remembers the 2007 game. Weird how near identical the situations are. Pats were 11-0 and we were 5-6. This year it's 10-1 vs 4-7. They were 24 point favourites (I think this still may be the record for biggest in NFL history?).

AJ Feely was our quarterback. That was a night game. I remember that I couldn't watch it because I was DJing.

Wasn't the report that he tweaked the hamstring on the 60-yard (or so) run? Which was his last game, right? Or just one before? So I assume that it is the lingering injury, though you would think that he would be resting enough with the concussion stuff (or at least considering that he is not even playing) to have had it healed by now.

edit: actually, that was his groin that he injured then, which is the injury that I see him listed with now. I don't see a hamstring.

wonder if there was any truth to that 'unnamed player who said they could play through injury but doesn't want to for chip"

I said it before and I'll say it again, birds win this Sunday. Win against buffalo and Arizona. Then lose back to back divisional games where they are the clear favorites and miss the playoffs.

According to Adam Schefter, the following teams- Cowboys, 49ers, Rams, and EAGLES, have all expressed a degree of interest in Johnny Manziel.

It's official. The franchise has hit rock bottom. :(

Did you see Trevor Noah use them as a punchline on TDS the other night?

Jonathan Krause (Vanderbilt) promoted off the taxi squad. Now carrying 7 WRs. Fast, small... plays the slot. Nice to see a young player making a splash in practice and get a chance for some late season PT. Whatever gets Miles Austin off the field!

http://mobile.philly.com/beta?wss=/philly/blogs/sports/eagles&id=360428791

Jonathan Krause might be the 53rd player on the roster, but he’s an intriguing name to know. The Eagles promoted the wide receiver from the practice squad last week in a curious move because it gave the Eagles seven wide receivers – a number they never had at that position during Kelly’s time in Philadelphia. The Eagles overlooked other positions that might have needed an extra body to get Krause on the roster.

That means either another team wanted him, or the Eagles wanted him. Krause said he is not aware of another team’s interest to add him to the 53-man roster, and Eagles coach Chip Kelly said the decision was made because of the way Krause has performed at practice.

“He's a kid that each week, when we're out here in training, that has stuck out to us and given him an opportunity to show us what we can do,” Kelly said. “If he has a good week in practice, we'll see where that puts him.”

Krause spent last season on the New England Patriots’ practice squad, and he learned under Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Krause does not have the size in the slot that former Vanderbilt teammate Jordan Matthews has, but he knows how to play the position. In fact, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was impressed by Krause, who had 11 catches for 89 yards in three preseason games with the Patriots.

“Jonathan has both inside and outside flexibility. Can play the slot, can play the perimeter. Runs well, smart kid, works hard, good hands. Very dependable player,” Belichick said. “A guy we didn’t get until about the middle of the year last year. He was in Cleveland, was rehabbing an injury through the middle part of the season, so he was a little bit behind. Mentally caught up quickly, and really did a great job for us on the practice field.

“We had a hard time covering him when he was on the scout team being our opponent’s receiver. So he did a good job, and unfortunately got banged up for us at the end of the preseason. But like Jonathan. Think he’s a good young player with a good future. Was a good move by Philadelphia to get him in their system. I think he has a lot of good qualities.”

27-34 Pats

I can't consciously go against the Patriots, or pick the Eagles at this point. My system sees an obvious win for New England, but I wouldn't be surprised if we rose up to the occasion and got back into the division race out of nowhere.

No bet for me though. I'm taking the points with Cle, Atl and Dal. I might play the over.

Watching football is a recreational activity. It's supposed to be fun. I do get a kick out of the cavemen that get all pissed off and scream at the TV, that is entertaining too.

Anyways, shock the world
cavemen didn't have television.

Interesting.

I have often though about guys like Edelman and Beasley who run these short, super quick, hard-cutting routes and wonder why we don't have someone like that. Honestly, some of the routes that Beasley ran in the last game against us looked literally undefensible, if the quarterback reads it and throws immediately. I haven't been watching the All-22s, but it never looks to me like our guys are running routes with quick stops or hard cuts, which is I feel is part of why we seem to rarely have guys open.

No, in this case, there is genius in it. Let it leak that the Eagles are interested in Manziel. Jerry Jones hears this and immediately decides he can't let the Eagles get his coveted golden boy. Cowboys trade 1st round pick for Manziel.

Eagles profit!!!

(God, I hope that is what is going on and we aren't really interested in Johnny)

. The Eagles do not influence what the Cowboys do, it seems to he the other way around. Everyone in Dallas liked Murray as an average to good RB at an average salary. But everyone in Dallas loved the idea of Philly over paying top dollar and crippling their cap for an average RB in the wrong system. Many on here got more enjoyment out "stealing" Murray and his stats from the Boys when they should of been studying his game film. Jerry wore him in the ground behind a bulldozer line. Often leaving him in games that were way in hand, knowing that someone was watching and would overpay. Its hard to "steal" a house cat who has been dumped in a field....Now your left with feeding him.

The Cowboys are no doubt a mess right now; they have got to get their own issues under control (QB future; team character cleansing, etc), but Philly is a lost ship with no direction that is now starting to mutiny. They need to spend less time trying to sponge and overpay a Dallas square peg and shove in their own round hole- thats playing right into Jerrys hand. In other words, worry more about getting a system that works for the talent Philly has- not the Cowboys or any other team that has a different philosophy. I like Chip, and just like you guys, expected great things from him. I'm still scratching my head why the players aren't buying into him, but he is also horrible at financial decisions if he kissed off on the blatant overpaying of an average Murray "to steal him" from the Cowboys. If that's what Jerry causes other teams to do, then in that aspect- he's a genius. He's still a failure in the judging players character department (Hardy, Dez, Randle) but that's a whole other issue.

This East division was set for an epic battle between Dallas and Philly and both teams squandered it. Dallas for not protecting against injury to Romo, Dez and Lee. Philly for failing to play the right talent in the right situations and horrible spending. It's a shame that the Skins are even mentioned as a division leader. Daniel Snyder was the greatest imbecile the NFC East could ever be gifted. He has and should still have that team sucking hind ### for years to come. It's been a barrage of bad decisions on Dallas and Phillys part that's even made Washington relevant again.

Sad division indeed.

Well stated, and I agree with a lot here... but do we really know that Chip/Eagles staff made the move to get Murray based on a desire to 'steal' him from Dallas? Message board chatter from Philly fans saying as much, or gloating how we crippled a rival, or equating Dallas's loss as a gain for the Eagles is one thing, but IMO it didn't play out that way internally. Of course, it is all speculative.

Watching the free agency period, it looked to me that Philly desired to sign Gore and Mathews as the 1A/1B. Gore had a deal in place, and then spurned Philly for Indianapolis, choosing to sign there instead. Mathews already had a visit, physical and an offer extended when the Murray thing came out of nowhere. In fact, there was speculation Philly would back out of the Mathews deal once the Murray/PHI talks begun.

Long story short, I think Chip wanted Gore + Mathews. When that fell apart, he could not go with Mathews alone (injuries and general belief that two RBs are needed) and aggressively pursued Murray when he (surprisingly) became available. I'm dubious Chip thought about 'stealing him from Dallas' and more about Mathews alone not being feasible (injuries), Murray's familiarity with the spread at Oklahoma, and his familiarity and friendship with Bradford from the same.

Not exactly public knowledge, just how I read the tea leaves. What fans on a message board think of 'stealing a house cat and having to feed him' or system fit probably are not what Chip is thinking, although it makes for funny banter here. At least it better not be.

Others would argue that had Jerry spent a little more to keep Murray, they could have stayed afloat during Romo's absence. Randle and McFadden led to 0-7. So, while the Eagles definitely overpaid for Murray, the Cowboys definitely felt his absence.

.The Eagles do not influence what the Cowboys do, it seems to he the other way around.

Others would argue that had Jerry spent a little more to keep Murray, they could have stayed afloat during Romo's absence. Randle and McFadden led to 0-7. So, while the Eagles definitely overpaid for Murray, the Cowboys definitely felt his absence.
Don't buy into his act, he is a Cowboys homer and if you remember was Kolb's significant other who was hurt when he was unloaded and tanked. Looks for any excuse to bash the Eagles. Murray not being on the Cowboys single handedly destroyed the Cowboys season as they had nothing to lean on when Romo crumbled again. Romo makes Bradford look like Cal Ripken.

If we could run murray out of any formation other than shotgun he would be so much better for us but that's not what Kelly wants to do. Stupid

Absolutely agree. When they have put Sam under center, and lined Murray back in the I-formation, he looked great. And, it set up play action. They did this a few series in the NO/NYG games but then never went back.

Murray needs to be a 'downhill runner' and it's obvious he is miscast in the shotgun. Mathews excels in the shotgun. Is this not painfully obvious to everyone in-house watching film?

I cringe every time they lineup and run it with murray out of shotgun. Which is almost every time they run the ball. The hit rate on those turning into positive plays is so low. My opinion on Chip has changed so much over the course of this season. He's either very stubborn or very stupid. Either way I've seen about enough

Logan Q with swollen knee.

Thornton out.

Whooooo!!
Logan being downgraded this AM not good. And, I think the loss of Nolan Carroll weighs heavily on this secondary.

Curry, Beau Allen, and Baird have a chance to step up.

Just want to see a good performance today. Win or lose (and always hope for a win) it would be nice to see them play well. Seems like it's been awhile since they had a real, solid 60 minutes.

EAGLES MUST BE GREAT TO BEAT PATRIOTS (Spadaro)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- This was the game, when you looked at it as the 2015 schedule was first available to see, that would be the telling tale for the Eagles as they embarked on December and the stretch run to the postseason. A tough game, no doubt, because the Patriots are the defending Super Bowl champions and nearly invincible at home in December, but an important gauge just to see where the Eagles ranked among the NFL's hierarchy.

What we thought then and what is reality now is vastly different. The Eagles are beginning the stretch run just one game back in the NFC East and they may very well be on a playoff run, but first they've got to stop a three-game losing streak that has dropped the Eagles from 4-4 and atop the division to 4-7 and in chase position.

There are enough reasons -- the return of quarterback Sam Bradford and tight end Zach Ertz to the lineup, the added days of rest since the loss in Detroit on Thanksgiving, the general feeling that the Eagles' pride is stung after three straight losses -- to think that this team will play at peak efficiency and will push New England to the limit.

Then again, the real question is this: Can the Eagles do something they haven't done all season to beat New England, and that is to play a full 60 minutes of good football? No, it must be great football, not merely good. New England, though battered with some injuries, is a 10-1 football team smarting after its first loss of the season, last Sunday in Denver.

What's most disappointing in a season of disappointments is what has been missing. The Eagles haven't played a full game. They haven't put it all together for 60 minutes. We've been waiting. We've been wondering. Wins over New Orleans and the Giants were convincing, but marred. The road win over the Jets was up and down and ultimately too close for comfort in the fourth quarter. Beating Dallas in Arlington, Texas was exhilarating, yet flawed.

Now it's New England and quarterback Tom Brady and all that comes with his greatness. Can the Eagles win? Yes, of course. Can they afford to turn the ball over and drop passes and miss tackles and make the mistakes they've made that have led to 4-7? No chance.

Here are must-haves for the Eagles if they intend to push New England over the limit and score this huge win ...

  • Collapse the pocket and reach Brady. Expect defensive coordinator Bill Davis to be aggressive. Expect him to come with a lot of pressure from every conceivable angle to reach Brady. Now, of course, the superstar quarterback understands that every defense wants to do that. He gets the football out of his hands quickly. The Eagles have to play their coverage men at the line of scrimmage, make sure they get their hands on the receivers and take some chances and play at premium efficiency. It's not an easy assignment. Nobody said it would be. But the Patriots are down some offensive weapons, the most notable the absence of tight end Rob Gronkowski, so the Eagles have to take some chances, play with confidence and win battles they haven't been winning lately.
  • Bradford must have a huge day and make good decisions and withstand New England's varied defensive looks. How much can the Eagles run the football? They've got to keep the Patriots honest and eating some clock would help keep Brady off the field, but the Eagles also need to get some chunk plays in the passing game. Bradford is back after missing two-plus games. The offense missed him. The slide happened while Bradford was sidelined. Let's see how the offense responds.
  • All of those 50/50 plays -- the bouncing footballs, the passes that go up for grabs, the kicking game -- have to work in the Eagles' favor. The teams that play with the most concentration and give the most effort usually win those kinds of plays. The Eagles have to be secure with the football and they have to be efficient when they get into the red zone. Touchdowns, not field goals.
In short, the Eagles must rise to the occasion with the season right there on the brink. The struggles of the NFC East have given the Eagles' postseason hopes some life, but time is running out. It's time to win. It's time to rise to the moment.

Do the Eagles have it in them to play that kind of game? This team has reached this moment in a manner that has been entirely unseen and on the kind of skid that is, frankly, extremely unsettling. The season hangs precariously. We'll see how much the Eagles can make the moment theirs and play like the type of team we all thought they would be way back when the schedules were announced and anything was possible.

In the last 9 weeks (Since Oct 4), we have lost only 1 game with Bradford as our QB. And it was to the 12-0 Carolina Panthers.

Thought for sure we would get crushed today ending the season.

The division is crap and we won't be more than a game back.....no reason we can't be less crappy than the other 3.

Sam Bradford has a 105.6 rating in his last three starts and the Eagles are 5-2 in the last seven games that Bradford started and finished.
