UGA is going to start Greyson Lambert. Uhhhhhh
Seems like most QB races are ending on the side of caution, going to experience over talent.  Alabama will be starting Cooper Bateman over 2 freshman, AU going with White over the young Franklin III, USC going with Browne over Darnold, FSU would have gone with Maguire, etc.

FSU would not have gone with Maguire. Trust me on that one. It was all Francois. Maguire's injury was just a convenient out.

Looks like the USC LT will be out on Saturday.  His backup will be lining up against Tim Williams, who Kiper has as the #1 overall player on his preseason Draft Board.

Not great news for Max Browne is it?

Browne is a bit of a mystery. So highly recruited a few years back (some had him as the #1 QB in the nation) but he sat on the bench behind Kessler, who I always thought was mediocre. Pretty rough sledding for Browne's first game (though my Trojan friends have reminded me that Matt Leinart's first game was on the road against top ranked Auburn.)

Browne was better than Kessler even last year but the coaching staff felt obligated to let Kessler play out his senior year.

Even without this injury USC is going to get manhandled on both lines, it's really up to USC to game plan to get Browne to roll out of the pocket, set up some draws and screens and use alabama's speed against them.

If Browne can get time to throw USC can be competitive. I just am not confident he will.

USC should have an advantage on special teams with adore Jackson on punt and kickoff returns. They must get some substantial plays out of him there to setup some short field to work with.

On defense USC must force turnovers (and overall win the turnover margin) if they have any shot to win. If they are negative turnover margin they 100% lose the game. If they are positive I think it's more of a coin flip.

Leaving tomorrow for Dallas, I am excited although not optimistic. Probably the biggest thing USC has going for it is kiffin will try to be cute to show USC up which may open Alabama up to make mistakes where if they just stuck to a vanilla game plan they would certainly put up enough points on offense to win.

If nothing else if Browne can zip a ball off kiffins face I will be satisfied with the result.

Good analysis. Hope you enjoy the game. How do you think UCLA will do Saturday?

Browne has talent and put up monster numbers in HS, but he played for a powerhouse program where the QBs always put up monster numbers. Same school as Jake Heaps, who was a top 5 QB coming out of HS, but flamed out of BYU and Kansas, before landing at Miami.

Browne isn't Heaps, but I do think the evidence suggest that perhaps Skyline QBs get a bit overhyped.

Florida is going to also lose 5 games and popcorn teeth gets run after next year. ✌️
Maybe, but for now I still have faith in Mac. He won about 3 more games last year than I expecting going in. The team was actually looking quite strong before Grier got suspended and other suspensions and injuries exposed the total lack of offensive depth Muschamp left behind. The offensive line situation was by far the worst I've ever seen at UF and that includes the probation 80s.

Yea he did do a good job last year, I can't lie. It just doesn't look like recruiting is all that great so far and that's basically all this is.

Looking forward to the game Saturday in the Swamp ... even though it has the potential to get ugly. This UMass team will be a mystery ... young, but potentially the most talent they've had in the five years in FBS. Ross Comis will bring a different dimension than Frohnapfel with his mobility, and having a pass-catching TE (Adam Breneman, who started as a frosh at Penn State) certainly will help the Whipple offense that bogged down a lot last year. Losing Tajae Sharpe hurts as the WR corps doesn't look overly strong. Expect to see more running with Marquis Young. The defensive secondary could be an issue, but hopefully some juco transfers up front will create more of a pass rush and hopefully get to Del Rio even a little bit.

Normally I sort of half-### watch Florida's opener, flipping around and spending more time watching other games. But Saturday I'll be locked in, jumping around, and breathing fire 60 minutes as if UF was playing some unholy combination of FSU and UGa coached by Lane Kiffin.

Anyway, enjoy the Swamp. I think most CFB fans would agree it's a great place to see a ball game.

Unfortunately, I'm not going. Talked about it with the wife, but we ultimately decided we're probably going to hit South Carolina instead in October.

And worse, instead I'll likely be at the casino Saturday night (not a Vegas book :kicksrock:  ) frantically looking for a spot at a sports bar.

Speaking of the Swamp, there an admittedly corny tradition there of a guy in a tie and yellow shirt, called Mr. Two Bits, leading fans in the old "two bits, four bits..." cheer. For most of the I've been a fan it was a guy named George Edmundson. But he's had to retire and they've had other people doing it.

Anyway, this Saturday Steve Spurrier is going to be doing it.

My bad, I thought you had posted last year that you were going to go.

App State can't throw the ball for #### but they're up 13-3 on Tennessee in the 2nd.  Might not last but they look like they've come to play and the Vols crowd is awfully quiet.
