Official 2016 GOP thread: Is it really going to be Donald Trump?? (2 Viewers)

Carson is worse than Trump
This is true- maybe. But to me Carson feels a lot more like a flavor of the month, ala a lot of the guys last time around, like Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain. I can't see Carson lasting. so for now I'd rather see Carson in the lead than Trump, who really does IMO have a chance at victory. The key is to see Trump going down.

Good point, I agree about Carson's viability.

Alabama to stop issuing driver’s licenses in counties with 75% black registered votersThe state of Alabama, which requires a photo ID to vote, announced this week that it would stop issuing driver’s licenses in counties where 75 percent of registered voters are black.

Due to budget cuts, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said that 31 satellite DMV offices would no longer have access to driver’s licenses examiners, meaning that residents will need to travel to other counties to apply for licenses. The move comes just one year after the state’s voter photo ID law went into effect.

AL.com’s John Archibald asserted in a column on Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Justice should open an investigation into the closings.

“Because Alabama just took a giant step backward,” he wrote. “Take a look at the 10 Alabama counties with the highest percentage of non-white registered voters. That’s Macon, Greene, Sumter, Lowndes, Bullock, Perry, Wilcox, Dallas, Hale, and Montgomery, according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s office. Alabama, thanks to its budgetary insanity and inanity, just opted to close driver license bureaus in eight of them.”

“Every single county in which blacks make up more than 75 percent of registered voters will see their driver license office closed. Every one,” Archibald explained. “But maybe it’s not racial at all, right? Maybe it’s just political. And let’s face it, it may not be either… But no matter the intent, the consequence is the same.”
Now that is how the GOP wins elections.
Eh, Alabama was ruled by Democrats for 130 years until just a few years ago and Alabama as a whole has voted solidly Republican (on the national level) for way longer than that. In the presidential election Alabama is a given to be on the Republican side, so that doesn't hold water, either. Sorry to intercede with facts here. Invective is so much more fun.

Secondly we currently have a huge budget deficit on the state level thanks in large part to the way our budget is structured - the parts that hold general funding also hold prisons and Medicaid, which are just eating the budget alive. So they are throwing out all kinds of crazy ideas to get more revenue and cut expenses. This is one of the latter. I doubt it goes through as it sits - as you would expect they are choosing to announce actions that will put fear into the populace and make it easier for tax increases. They have also been talking about closing all state parks. That isn't going to go through, either.

Democrats were racist until 2010? I guess if you say so.

Alabama as a state has voted Republican in presidential elections since Reagan.

Since 1956, Alabama has voted for a Democratic President one time - Carter. The state chose racists Byrd and Wallace over Kennedy and Nixon.

One Alabama Senator has been a Republican since 1981 except for Shelby for a term before he switched to being a Republican. The other Senator is a Republican who has been in office since 1997 after a Democratic Senator (Helfin) retired.

I don't have the information on the House of Representatives but I'd wager that not many Democrats have won in mostly white areas.

run for president

Trump continues to lose ground in the polls, now a clear 2nd place:

http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials-polls/100215-773897-donald-trump-trails-ben-carson-in-ibd-tipp-poll.htm

Is it too soon to finally say the fad is ending?
. Is Paul Ryan, who isn't even running, really getting 3%? I feel like that's just a mistake and they mixed up Rand Paul with Paul Ryan.
Just goes to show how off that poll is and its only purpose is to try to set a false narrative that trump is fading when he isn't.

I've come to enjoy the weekly segment on meet the press about how trumps campaign is imploding. See you again next week!

Trump trolls Rubio

Donald Trump delivered a new dig in his ongoing feud with Sen. Marco Rubio on Monday: a 24-bottle care package with the label “Trump Ice Natural Spring Water.”

The set of bottled water was sent to the Rubio campaign’s Washington office on Monday. The package also had two towels with the “Make America Great Again” Trump campaign slogan, Trump campaign bumper stickers, and a note that said “Since you’re always sweating, we thought you could use some water. Enjoy!” according to CNN.

So good

Ben Carson: "Don't just sit there and let him shoot you or you'll be dead." The man has a point.

It's really hard to believe this guy is/was a neurosurgeon
Why? My wife has a brilliant mind for science (IMO) but she can't balance a check book. Conversely, I am really good with $ but couldn't explain the "whipple" procedure for pancreatic cancer.
Carson doesnt have a brilliant mind for science.

"Science" is quite the generalization, but I'm sure you said that on purpose. I'm willing to bet there isn't a scientist alive that has a brilliant mind for science. All of them are specialized in a particular area. Perhaps I should have made that clearer in my post, but I thought it was already understood. I was wrong.

An Ivy League professor said that Ben Carson should win the "coon of the year" after the 2016 hopeful supported allowing Confederate flags at NASCAR events.

In a tweet sent out last Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania religious studies professor Anthea Butler, wrote "If only there was a 'coon of the year' award ..." when responding to Daily Beast editor-at-large Goldie Taylor's tweet containing a link to a Sports Illustrated article on the issue.

"Swastikas are a symbol of hate for some people too and yet they still exist in our museums and places like that," Carson said during an event with Richard Petty in North Carolina last Monday. "If it's a majority of people in that area who want it to fly, I certainly wouldn't take it down."

Obviously, Butler disagreed with the famed neurosurgeon, who currently sits second in the Washington Examiner's latest power ranking, behind only Donald Trump.

No outrage because he is a republican?

No, no outrage because context is a thing that people with common sense usually understand.

Your outrage at the lack of outrage is noted, however. Good outraging!

i wouldn't call it outrage, but copy/pasting without including a link is frowned upon.

What's not to understand? "Science" is probably the broadest term out there. A scientist can be brilliant in one area and completely ignorant in another.

Carson doesnt have a brilliant mind for science.
Or government, as it turns out. He doesn't know the difference between the deficit/budget and the debt limit.

If there was ever one who represented the general electorate, this looks like our guy. That's pretty bad.
