My Islander fan friends are passing around the photo of the Panthers girl flashing against the glass...wasnt that someone here and it was many years ago?? 

can someone pull out their notebook?

 
I know this isn't much help, especially since I can't remember exactly where I saw it (hopefully not earlier in this thread :bag: ), but I saw Caps-Pens Game 1 scheduled for Thursday night 7 or 7:30 PM with Game 2 Saturday night national broadcast after the draft lottery.  Maybe Friday/Sunday for the other East series I'm guessing?

Kings were best team in the West and they are out.

btw, top 2 teams in the East are playing each other this round as well.

I guess it may be tv related actually.

maybe Anaheim is a much more attractive team/market than Nashville.

I agree they should release it. But maybe they are waiting to try and schedule things more strategically. dunno.

I'm on my phone now, but they said on tv last night that islanders play Wednesday at 7pm and ducks at 10pm. 

 
there's a thread at HockeysFuture #####ing about this, but pretty neat that Tampa had the 6th best record in the East and they have home ice advantage in the first two rounds.

Yea but I have weekend plans and am trying to figure out when the F the Saturday game is so I can adjust. No reason not to announce IMO.

TB/NYI Game 1 before ANA/NAS Game 7 Wednesday night. Not often NHL starts one round before another is done.

Also, I read that Amalie is booked Fri/Sun so game 2 will be Saturday. Given game 1 is Wednesday, I'd guess they play in the afternoon. But for ratings purposes, they might throw that PIT/WAS game on early.

I don't get why the networks do this.  I can see putting the "best" game on in the afternoon in February when half the country could eb digging out from snow. But in April/May/June when there are so many things to do outside, that I can't see them pulling in many viewers from outside the respective teams.

Yeah, I hate it.  With 8 teams playing in the Western Conference, the Blues, who finished 2nd in the standings in the Western Conference start off with the 3rd ranked team in the West and now draw the #1 ranked team in the West.

Stars are no tougher of a matchup than Anaheim or San Jose would be. West was top-heavy this year. Blackhawks weren't even that good compared to prior years.

I'm more annoyed by the schedule delay.  I completely got it when you were waiting to know who your opponent was.  When 3/4 matchups are set...

The matchups are what they are.  The bracket was set up beforehand and every team had to play by the same rules.  It's not ideal, but odds are we'd be looking at the Blackhawks as a 2nd round opponent now.  I'll take them in the rearview mirror, thanks.

 
9pm local time for puck drop Wednesday night.  Going to be a late night.  I feel for any east coast preds fans (or Ducks fans for that matter)

Caps finished with most points in the East. Play the Penguins (2nd most points in the East) in the 2nd round.

Oh, I get that.  In fact, San Jose probably the scariest of all the teams left.

That said, it's just a stupid way to seed teams for playoffs, IMO.  Divisions should get thrown out when doing seeding and just stick to Western and Eastern Conference.  I feel the same way about the NFL and I think it's ridiculous that a team can win a division with an 8-8 record and host a home game against a WC team that has a 12-4 record. 

A team like San Jose, who finished 6th in the West overall gets to play the 5th best team to start and then might get the 8th best team (on paper).  Just silly.

ETA--And a team like the Predators, who are in the same division as the Blues, as a result of finishing 4th instead of 2nd, get to play a worse overall team in both the 1st round as well as the 2nd round (if they were to advance).  They actually get rewarded for being ####tier.

Seguin will be back at some point in this series.  who knows how effective, he was slow and bad in G2

All in all fun time in St. Louis. Only negative (apart from the outcome) was the ######## in front of me who kept getting in my face and blocking the exit for other fans.  He was getting shut down by Blues fans by the third.  Nice Blues fans beside and behind and my wife even made a new Facebook friend. :bag:   He's a master gardener who encouraged my wife to visit the botanical garden which is where we are now. :bag:  

i did hedge but obviously not enough given the outcome. Sucks to be done so early in the playoffs.

I don't really understand how you are ranking which teams are better or worse here.

 
Bieber in concert at Verizon Center on Friday night means no Caps-Pens then. Getting awfully late to announce a Thursday night game one, closing in on 48 hours out.

Latest rumor is that Caps-Pens go at 7 p.m. Saturday and then again at 7 on Sunday.

Don't understand all this ranking shtick today....   The teams are all very, very close together IMO.  Except the Wild, of course 

The rankings don't mean much, which is why we've seen what we have seen so far. I'm not going to be upset if the Ducks lose. It's been a very tight, even series the entire way.

Same way the standings are ranked....by points.  Blackhawks and Ducks both finished the year with 103 pts.  Both had a +26 goal differential.  Chicago actually had 1 more win.  And they scored more goals on the year. 

What are you not understanding?  Or what am I missing?  The way I ranked the teams was if you combined the Central and Pacific divisions and just put it all into one Western Conference (like the NBA).  If that were the case, it would be Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, then Anaheim if I'm not mistaken.

In both the West and the East, you have the top 2 teams in each conference facing off in the 2nd round of the playoffs.  It's just nonsense even though I know that's how it's been.

Standings are an inherently flawed way of ranking teams when you have a system that awards 3 points in some games but 2 points in others and also gives an extra point to a team that wins in a shootout.

Despite all that, are you really saying a team with 103 points is significantly better than another team with 103 points?

throw LA, ANA, DAL, STL, and CHI in a bucket and it's hard to find much to differentiate them in terms of team strength this year. All are very very good teams. San Jose wasn't too far off either.
