After a pretty strong 1st period for the Caps it seemed the Pens adjusted what they were doing and had the Caps D confused for the 2nd and 3rd periods as to how to switch effectively in their own zone.Pens saw this and just kept doing it and the Caps really did look lost at times but thanks to Holtby he kept them in the game and they finally got it together with a pretty strong OT.

Orlov needs to sit,he was simply horrific but what they have behind him really isn't much better.I would suspect Chorney getting back into the lineup if Trotz sits Orlov given how well the Pens can skate.

I'm surprised, but not shocked.  He did such a great job.  Really like how all the young players were given room to develop and how quickly they were to realize guys like Etem never would.  What a crappy stigma to have to carry around. Read today that for every year he's coached the full year, he's 8 for 8 on winning division titles.

I'm surprised, but not shocked.  He did such a great job.  Really like how all the young players were given room to develop and how quickly they were to realize guys like Etem never would.  What crappy stigma to have to carry around. Read today that for every year he's coached the full year, he's 8 for 8 on winning division titles.

This sounds like the Billy Beane theory. Build around positioning yourself as best as possible during the regular season, because the playoffs are such a crapshoot. Might be something to that.

But you would think the odds would break in the guy's favor at some point in a Game 7, wouldn't they?

Yahoo had a good article I think yesterday....  Goalies have like a .878 for him in game 7's.  And he's never had the Henry, Roy type goalie in Game 7.

They have to find a coach that's won a cup before.  Any suggestions @Aaron Rudnicki?

He's a real good coach so it's hard to be calling for his head but that's tough to take. Knew it happened a couple years, didn't think it was the last four.

22. Had some conversations with former Ken Hitchcock players about what happened with Vladimir Tarasenko in the first round, and one who summed it up best said this:

“There’s this assumption he doesn’t like offensive players. That’s not true. He doesn’t like offensive players who don’t defend. Mike Modano and Rick Nash got their minutes, because they made the effort for him. He believes Tarasenko can make a difference offensively, but doesn’t trust him defensively.”

This was not a minority opinion — a couple other players made similar comments. In Game 7, Hitchcock took pains to make sure Tarasenko was out there in offensive situations. During previous games, he’d take that line off the ice if Jori Lehtera was not on his strong side for a face-off. (David Backes got a lot of those.) It didn’t happen as much in the decider, as Tarasenko was out there for eight of the first 10 draws in the Chicago zone. However, as the St. Louis Blues zealously guarded their one-goal lead, the sniper played just 23 seconds of the final 6:10 and none of the last 3:55.

I was just about to come post this. And their puck handling is significantly better too. It seems the Blues can't keep it going up the ice and can't take it away defensively. 

Just gotta hope the depth pays dividends in the third if they can keep it within one.

Verizon Center ice is currently total garbage after last night's Bieber concert. Thank goodness it's an unusually cool day in DC but I am still not optimistic about tonight's playing surface. This happens way too often and is something Leonsis really needs to get fixed.
