***Official 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread : Pens raise the cup for 4th time in franchise history*** (2 Viewers)

Caps are used to blowing 3-1 leads, down 3-1 they got the Pens right where they want them.
I could absolutely see them winning this series but they better come out bals to the wall in game 5 and play that way for the rest of the series.  I have no doubt this is the NHL's best team, but they better have a come to Jesus really quick.  Them coming out flat in game 2 after getting outplayed in game 1 should have been a warning, and then they just got really unlucky in game 3 and lost a tight game tonight, which happens.

If they do come back and win this series, they'll win the cup.

Haven't seen a Pens team play this well in the playoffs in years.  It's nice to see.  More grittiness, more speed, more heart, more help from the 3rd and 4th lines, better goal tending, harder for other teams to throw them off their games like Philly, NY, Boston, et al, did in the past.  They are a dangerous team right now.

That said, the Caps are still going to be a tough out, despite the Pens being up 3-1.  They have played the Pens pretty evenly the past couple games.  The Pens need to keep the pressure on.

Agree with most if this but I'd say the Caps outplayed the Pens by a wide margin in game 3 and by only a little less in game 4. Pe s paying great, but also getting lucky. That's what you need to hoist the Cup, IMO.

Being a Caps fan is soul crushing

After the goal, I muttered an f-bomb and then went into the kitchen.  My wife asked me why I get so mad about hockey.  I just said, "Because I'm a Caps fan."  She was so confused, so I had to explain the cycle of great regular seasons followed by never living up to playoff expectations.

I figured Sheriff would be in posting his "choking dogs" column from 80 years ago, but here's a new one for you.

Seems like the Rangers should have opened up their wallets for whatever Hags wanted. He is what they needed and has been the spark Pitt needed.

Hindsight is 20/20

Get your wife into it. My wife never cared about sports at all until she met, and now she is a die-hard Bolts fan. She sits toward in her seat, grumbles to herself, all of it. I took her to her first game in 2011 and she fell in love immediately.

She doesn't really care about any other local teams, so last year was her first sports pain. She took that Finals loss very hard. I kind of felt bad for introducing her to it in a way.

Ha. After one of those tying TB goals I unleashed a flurry of punches on the sofa..... My wife and kid came running - YOU OK????

They were already well used to the F-Bombs by then....

Since going up 3-0 vs. the Flyers, Caps are on a 2-5 streak. Other than a 2-0 loss to Philly that featured an empty-netter, every game has been a 1-goal game. The Caps lived by one-goal wins this season and now they're dying by them. Also tough that they've scored all of 12 goals during these last 7 games.

That being said, I think Pittsburgh was clearly a better team than Washington during the second half of the season, and I'm not surprised at all to see the Pens winning. Which, in fact, is the source of my whining about the playoff seedings.

THEY ARE DONE, BOOK IT.....WOOOOOOOO

Same ole' choking dogs they've always been and will be, Jokevechkin played 1 good period all series, stick a fork in their a$$e$....SERIES OVER

He's still a 0.5 PPG player which is not good enough for $4MM, IMO.

Pens have not lost consecutive games since January, and anyone really thinks they are going to lose 3 in a row to this gagging chokers? LMAO :lmao: :lmao:

I don't think anyone around DC does.  This morning's talk radio on the two stations was like they had already lost the series.  Sad clown face for everyone!

BTW, Nick, you're good people. You just needed a primer for your wife on why the Caps keep falling to the Penguins in the playoffs.  :P

Here's the problem - She's from Pittsburgh.

In general, she has no interest in hockey.  She's a big Steelers fan, which is fine...They're my AFC team, and the Redskins are my NFC and go-to team.  I'll even root for the Pirates most of the time....Our son has a bunch of Redskins/Steelers/Pirates gear, but I drew the line at Pens stuff.

So...If I let her stay indifferent to hockey, then I have a "happy" Capitals household.  (Happy in quotes =  regular season).  If I get her into hockey, then I'll suddenly get a Pens fan in the house.

I have made her a closet NASCAR fan though.  She knows the drivers and a lot of the story lines.  It's pretty funny.  She pretends to hate it, but I know she actually likes it.

@Tom Servo - Fantastic link....forwarding it to the wife now so she understands why I'm Debbie Downer as soon as the Caps start losing.

My wife is similar.  Our arrangement is similar.  Right down to her watching a NASCAR race, making fun of me for watching, and then asking me why Jr. would go high on that turn when the line is low.

This week it was, me saying, "I'm surprised Tony Stewart is racing in Talladega."

Her reply was: "He's just starting the race then some guy is going to jump in and race for him."

Yeah...she doesn't follow NASCAR at all.

My wife is the same way. Never followed hockey, or had ever been to an NHL game before we met.

Now when I get home late at night from work, one of the first things she asks is who won the late games after she went to bed.

Meanwhile, off topic but I give @DoctorDetroit credit for going into the NBA thread and his passionate case.

I wandered in there a couple of years ago and made one observation about Joey Crawford miraculously showing up to ref another elimination game for a high-profile team, and got vilified for it.

Not as much fun busting on the fans of the top seeds when you know they're not going to lose.

kisses being blown, feel like a woman blaring in the locker room, Pierre between the benches...good thing Shaw isn't in this Blues/Stars series

Yea mine does that every night in the playoffs. Today when she woke up:

did Pittsburgh win?

yea

wow. Is that good for us? Bad? You said Washington was really tough.

When time one ran out on the Bolts last year (we had a few people over to watch) she silently marched up to bed when the horn blared to end it. I think she had a good cry (we went to every playoff game, she was totally all-in). She admits to tearing up only a little.

Holtby had his lowest save percentage against the Penguins this season, at .913, for teams against whom he played three or more games...
